Because they're Goths with worse music and more whining.

Lots more.
What he said. Just dress gothic if you're into that type of thing (personally, I think gothic chicks are hot as hell), but there's no need to be an attention whoring little kid who cuts himself up, not realizing those scars he's putting on himself (physical scars, you know, from cutting, not emotional) will last forever. Not to mention most are just starved for attention and barely grasp what the whole concept of being emo (which is a horrible acronym, btw) is, no matter how much they try.

And even if they did, they have to realize the entire of concept of being emo is contradictory. You're bitching and cutting yourself up to be anti conformist, however you're just another brick in this toilet paper wall of other pissy kids. So being emo itself shouldn't exist.

Alright, I need to really clear some thing up.

For those who don't know (apparently most of you) "Emo" can mean many things. Such as:

A. ORIGINALLY, the term referred to what was mostly an clothing style. It was an offshoot of punk, based mostly around simply wearing whatever the hell you felt like wearing. People who chose to be "emo" tended to be more in touch with their emotions than others, and NOT JUST SADNESS. They'd react more noticeably with sadness, happiness, love, anger, everything. As for the clothing, the 'rules' were almost nonexistent, and much of it could be even fluorescent and eccentric, as opposed to the bland blackness we think of today.

B. People use the word to refer to people who are seriously, legitimately, diagnostically depressed. These people really need help and compassion to be guided through their dark times and avoid leaning towards drastic measures, like committing suicide. I don't see why anyone could really hate these people, as they are usually fairly quiet, and sometimes put on a façade and don't even seem depressed to others.

C. The most common perception, the ones that are actually the most hated. These are the people that are simply attention-seekers; they simply pretend to be depressed and slouch around town looking at the ground, wearing all black and listening to MCR or something. They are the ones who deserve a good sock to the head. They are all narcissistic SOBs (or Bs, as the case may be) who simply want other peoples reaction, whether it's pity or disdain. They feed on the responses of others, similarly to internet trolls. THEY are the annoying, whiny, fake brats that we all love to hate.

D. There is sort of a fourth group. There are some people who do not act as anything remotely connected to Emo, and simply like the clothing and/or music. These ones are a test in judgment, proving that you should not see someone's clothing and hate them for the personality that you assume they have.

I, frankly, hate group C with all my heart, but all the others I have no problem with. I actually like a lot of music that is sometimes considered "Emo", such as Billy Talent and 30 Seconds To Mars. As for conformity, only group A would really have a thing against conformity. Group D is conforming themselves, and C is the DEFINITION of conformity.

"Cutters" could be different things, depending on why they do it and if they actually do. They could be group Bs who are indecisive about suicide, or group Cs who do it because they're 'supposed to'. Or even addicts to the rush it gives you.

Those who do nothing to solve their problems are likely group Bs, who don't because they are depressed (which IS A MENTAL DISORDER, PEOPLE) and lack the energy or will to do anything at all, or again, Cs who don't do anything because they don't actually have a problem.

And Emo has ABSOLUTELY NO CONNECTION TO GOTH WHATSOEVER. Goths are people who believe in and sometimes worship the unholy spirits of the damned. If anything it's closer to a religion than a style. The word 'Goth' has been mangled so much that now anyone wearing black anything is in danger of being called it, or Emo. I once got called Goth for wearing brown cargo shorts and a black XKCD t-shirt that clearly depicted a stick figure with a beaker and calculator shouting "STAND BACK, I'M GOING TO TRY SCIENCE". Labeling itself is stupid, but it only gets worse when people label incorrectly.

As for the actual question, I hate Emos (group C, that is) because they don't care about anyone but themselves. Plus they're whiny and annoying.

TL;DR: there are a lot of people that fit the "Emo" label, but the ones that do it for attention are little annoying pricks. People who cut have different reasons, Those who do nothing could have the disorder that is depression, and Goth =/= Emo AT ALL.

Sorry for having a massive post, but people who generalize Emos into one category are a pet peeve of mine.

you are quite a smart cookie. everyone read this guys post. he knows what he preaches

Because no one, and I mean no one, likes overly emotional people. Especially men, who frequently have no idea what to do around people who feel everything so heavily.

Also... black make up? Really?

Because, if you're friends with on, trying to get their self-esteem up to a point where they'll actually DO something with the rest of you is like cutting off your left foot and trying to force feed it to a hippo.

Hello fellow escapists!
A thought just struck me, why do most of us hate emos? They may be down and depressed. But why do we hate those who choose to wear black and dispise the conformus. They are probably the most hated social group, but are they so much worse than us others? I personally don't find them that irritating there are plenty of other people who are way worse...
I think this might help.

I think its made fun of and hated because the idea of labeling yourself by joining a group and then expecting to be treated as an individual and not stereotyped is hilarious to some people. And the attitude commonly associated with emo people (my life sucks I want to die nobody understands me waa waa) is incredibly annoying and noboby likes someone who acts like that.

Also some emo or scene (or whatever other variants are called) people look ridiculous and are made fun of for their appearance not their views on life.

You Have To Admit Though, They Do Look Pretty Hot...
Honestly? Not really. Looking hot is basically tied into fashion.

I cant see justifying emos based on their fashion sense because the emo look, looks awful.

For guys it comes off in anorexic metrosexual skater punk dabbed in black and neon. Its like Robert Smiths wet dream.

Girls come off in a tacky attempt at merging goth fashion with punk fashion, which punk fashion makes anything look abysmal. It really looks like they tried to go for the goth look, but it was too much work and they gave up about halfway in, and said, fuck it, well just rehash looks from the 70s and 80s

OT: Also, anything in animal print looks like shit IMPE.

Because nobody wants to hear about someone constantly complaining about how bad their life is. Sorry, if I don't know you and I just don't care. You want sympathy, try to find some from your friends. And most of them don't even have any real problems, they just overreact to every little bad thing about them. And someone who really wanted to fix their problems would ask for help. If things were really that bad, you'd be talking to a counselor, or child services or some shit. Complaining and not taking any action isn't going to solve anything. So why don't you just grow the fuck up, wipe off the eyeliner and start acting like you got a pair. You're really not as misunderstood as you think. Everyone feels misunderstood, but those people, unlike you, deal with it. We don't turn into pretentious whiny fucks.

...sorry Its just, Emos really bug me.

The same reason every new or changed subculture is hated.
It's just a generational thing about "this fucking new generation is so stupid" or "we were so much cooler in the (insert music/fashion genre) scene back in our day, this is gay".
That and just the standard clique insults.
"Fucking metalheads think a bunch of people yelling and banging on shit is so great" "Stupid punks and their dumb ideas" "Techno is gay" "Stupid wiggers" etc. etc.

Can't say I'm a fan of emo culture as it is today, but I don't have a big hate-on about it. The original hardcore punk bands where the label originated were pretty awesome though.

Yous summed it up so perfectly.... I'm speechless.

They think that they're the only people in the world that have problems and that because of that they can get away with not caring and being completely self absorbed. If you're clinically depressed, go see a psychiatrist and get it worked out. If you're not, shut up and stop bitching. We all have problems, and if the rest of us can handle them without becoming a wrist-cutting narcissist, you have no excuse.

Not to judge or anything.

This too. Especially because of the whole rebellion thing. They don't actually believe in fighting the "corrupt" government, they just want attention. Plus the whole raging hormones thing.

Unless you've had some horrible, dreadful thing happen to you in your life (Which I would then have some sympathy for in that case) I feel teenagers don't even know what life is about to be complaining about it. It's idiotic to spend your youth forcing yourself to be miserable when it's only going to go downhill from there.

Because they complain about how hard life is, even when it's not.

Because their music is shit.

Because they want people to feel sorry for them.

Because they look like tools.

Anyone who acts like that deserves to be hated.

Because they whine a lot, and always feel the need to inform others that they enjoy cutting themselves.

At least, in my experiences. But I haven't seen many anymore, I think the fad died.

Because every emo that I've ever met, and ever will meet, grew up in white, middle-class America, has access to culture, education, and/or career opportunities on par with or greater than mine, and they will still have the nerve to pretend that the world is picking on them, with the expectation of being taken seriously.

Look at what they have done to Dante. Seriously, I don't even play DMC games and I know that "emo" is the exact opposite of what anyone wants from that character. They want wisecracking, overconfident, Matrix bullet dodging, demon killing bad-ass. Not seeing him cry to himself in a corner cause his mommy didn't buy him stuff from hot topic this month.

Ya, hes kind of a pompous asshole, but you don't need to turn him into an emo *****. What? You thought it would be more "hardcore" to have him wear makeup, whine about everything, and to threaten to cut himself?

Basically because it's cool to hate them. I actually know a few emos, and they're not as whiny as everyone says they are. Yeah, my ex is a little psychotic, but that's more the not being able to accept that I needed space to heal thing than the being emo thing.

I know that some older folks have a hard time buying the fact that teenagers/young people have anything to be sad/depressed about. It's an observation that I can see the logic behind, yet generaly disagree with.
