Relax man, that's why I said later in the post: It's not accurate every time, but it's enough for me to get sick of alot of anime's pretty quick. I didn't try to apply it to all animes because it doesn't work to all animes, just to a bunch of them. I guess I should have been less broad in the beginning of the post.OuroborosChoked said:So you've watched 4 anime series? Oh, and you've come up with a broad generalization based on your limited experience. How delightful.KeithA45 said:I generally used to like anime until I started noticing the repetitiveness of it all. I've concluded that every anime as 3 characters:
1) The kid with hidden ultimate power. Usually the kid has no idea he has such power and never has control of it. Sometimes it's "evil" power. Usually acts pretty wacky when not in combat for comic relief.
2) The serious, "deep" kid. Is seen brooding on a regular basis. Opens up to no one and treats everyone like crap, but everyone usually thinks he's awesome through some far-fetched reason.
3) The chick. Always hot, cries often. Her job is to chastise kid #1 and fall in love with kid #2 for no real reason. Her lines usually consist of variations of "Damnit [kid #1]!" and "No [kid #2], it's too dangerous! You'll be killed!"
And some animes combine kid #1 and kid #2.
Examples: In Naruto, Naruto is kid 1, Sasuke is kid 2, and Sakura is kid 3. In Bleach, Ichigo is a mix of kids 1 and 2 with emphasis on kid 1, and Rukia is kid 3. In Inuyasha, Inuyasha is kids 1 and 2 with emphasis on kid 2, and Kagome is kid 3.
It's not accurate every time, but it's enough for me to get sick of alot of anime's pretty quick.
I should note that I'm not a blind hater of anime and I actually LIKED some of these animes. I saw plenty of episodes of Inuyasha and Bleach (especially Inuyasha), I'm just not a fan anymore.
EDIT: In Trigun, Vash is kid 1 and 2 with emphasis on kid 1 early in the series and gradually more emphasis on kid 2 as the series continued, and Meryl is kid 3. Milly is just there for comic relief. And I LOVED Trigun.
Please apply your analysis to Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Or Full Metal Alchemist. Or Neon Genesis Evangelion. Or Le Chevalier D'Eon. Or Paprika. Or Kite. Or Serial Experiments: Lain. Or Five Centimeters Per Second. Or *ANY* comedy anime.
Sounds like geass to be honest.Bright_Raven said:OK, i put this out on every anime thread: ZEGAPAIN.

Why do things like this have to happen?
And what Anime cliche drives you up the wall to the point of blowing YOUR brains out, all over your beautiful walls.
then don't watch anime that's on tv, like Bleach. watch something good, like Code Geass, Gurren Laggon, Black Lagoon, etc. there's plenty of great stuff out there, but it's not on tv. and if it is it's an english dub and watching that is a sin.Straitjacketeering said:Seriously, I clicked over and caught an episode of bleach and felt like blowing my brains all over my fucking wall, my.. my beautiful wall. your right, we don't expect all anime to be a ground breaking adventurw but there is this thing we have called "standards". honestly, compare 2 romance anim like RomeoxJuliet vs Zero's Familiar and you can see the obvious difference. yes they appeal to different audiences but guess which ones they cater to? But back on topic. As Sorry User Name Taken said, anime has gotten popular. That means that the highly critical "underground" is no longer the central audience. So, studios will make anime to appeal to wider audiences, and this often means using tried and true formulas.
But to be honest, are the studios really to blame? Are our expectations too high? After all, you can't expect every anime, video game, or novel to be ground-breaking or original. Anime can be original in how well it executes an established formula, but that's pretty much it.
have you watched School Rumble? similar yet with some of the best male charactors EVER!!!Eiseman said:It fills me with dread, and even shame, that the last anime shows I enjoyed were Lucky Star and Azumanga Daioh. They both belong to this genre of female high school students who do nothing but talk. I'm serious, that's all it is. It's the stupidest premise I've ever heard, yet somehow it reaches me, and it's funny to watch. At the same time though, I feel a little weird watching it.
I'll have to look up those ancient anime someday. I always did like archeology! ;pPedroSteckecilo said:You younguns, I started my anime fandom on Macross, the 1979 Gundam, The Slayers and a whole bunch of other stuff I bet most of you have never even heard of (Space Runaway Ideon anyone?) so don't go talking to me about all new anime being crap, as far as I'm concerned FLCL is still pretty "new".
