I'm having trouble understanding why so many of the people on the site are so pessimistic. Every other comment is "That greedy (insert company name here) is making money! RAAAAAGGGEE." I'm just happy that the company isn't going bankrupt and firing thousands of it's employees. or when you say "humanity has no value" or some bullcrap about how half of humanity should die off.

Plus gammers aren't exactly the most worst off group of people. We can afford a current gen console or a used ps2 if we're short on cash. In fact, some of us can afford crazy powerful gamming PCs.

My brain hurts just trying to make sense of you soulless depressed group of people.
Well, I'm just going to throw it out there and say, just because you have a current gen console doesn't mean you live a charmed life. Sure you're not as worse off as others, but there's the whole rest of the world where there's plenty of people way better off than you and of course plenty of people way worse off than you. Comparing your status in life, especially by monetary standards isn't exactly...constructive.

And as for me, I think half of humanity should die off not necessarily because they're terrible people or I hate them, but just that we're overpopulated and I think we could do with at least some "pruning".
I would be ok with that if YOU were the first to volunteer to die

if not then....NO,

you know it makes me think...those people who "I hate everything because everyone is shit..and I dont care" if they didnt care...well that kind of scares me, are they the kind of people who would do nothing is a fellow human was in danger? and if they could help?

because if that were the case...THEY are the very kind of horrible people they complain about, self rightout hypocrites
Oh, go right ahead! As a person who is largely unsatisfied with life and has considered suicide pretty heavily, I certainly volunteer to be the first to die. Believe me, I'm not so far gone as to say "I deserve to live while everyone else deserves to die." Surely, nobody in this world deserves to die, but I definitely think something should be done about the population problem. Even if it's something so benign as a procreation limit of one child per couple (excluding adoptions). Mass murder is just the most readily available, if not hard-to-persuade-others-to-think-the-same, answer.

As for caring about other people, I very much do care about others. If someone's in danger, I'd hope I wouldn't be too chicken to do something to help them. To me, life is about caring for others, more than caring about yourself.

Sulking is easier on the internet especially when in the company of other angsty forum users.

The way I see it, if you have to sulk the internet is the best and the worst place to do it. The best because nobody that actually matters is going to know it's you b****ing up a storm, that way nobody can judge you in real life. The worst because those raving self-absorbed complaining fits attract the trolls by the thousands, Republican and Democrat forum's are the most consistently entertaining but every so often I get a good jab at a whining PETA member...I savor those moments.

Wanna talk negative!? Try being a Star Wars fan who likes The new ones and doesn't care about the added in stuff to the originals....you get eaten ALIVE!!!

Very few Star Wars fans are positive about this kind of thing :p
I'm a capitalistic Roman Catholic libertarian offspring of a Cuban refugee with strong pro-American sentiments that?s secure in his sexuality, supports gay marriage rights, feels that the tax code is the most logical document in history, loves fine cigars, and firmly believes that accounting is the most fulfilling job in the world. Dude, I'm hated literally everywhere and its glorious. Stare your internet challengers in the face and alternate between reasonable arguements and childish name calling as the situation requires.

We are the old guard. We are impossible to please. Every merit you bring up about the new films will be met with the vitriol of a fan base scorned. If you shrink from us now it will only add to our smugness in the long run.

It's not just this site, it's the Internet in general. The Internet has given the average person a voice and they use that voice to whine like self-entitled spoiled brat children that deserve a good swift kick up the backside.

Oh this is rich, so you people came here to complain about people who complain... clearly we are headed in the right direction :D

There are two ways to react to complaints, this one doesn't solve anything, but it provides me with much amusement.

Go to 4chan, you'll learn what negativity means.
I'm afraid he's right on the money there. Broke and desperate for money though the Escapist is, its users tend to be a little more sophisticated.

See? Monocle.

Im just saying (there was a thread on the topic) I find the Idea of my life..and alot of others peoples lives being in the hands of a misanthrope who doesnt give a shit rather terrifying

when people complain about the evils of humanity to me they sound rather relf rightious (and what the fuck have THEY done 99% of the time?) and just arnt seeing the good

as for the over-population thing...theres not much you can ethically do about that (mabye SOMHOW encourage the high breeders, like the welfare leeches, to cut back on the breeding)

I'm negative because I've done enough stupid shit, had enough bad luck and generally had life treat me in such a fashion that, sadly, gives me a pessimistic and negative outlook in life.

I'm no angsty teen who cries out about how he has no faith in humanity, I just easily assume the worst will happen, or that something I do will fail regardless. True negativity, the worst kind, is a lot less out spoken and brash, and more like a slow creeping venom that eats you from the inside out. And I really have no idea how to stop it.

I've heard you say that before, something to do with living crappily as you do? Because in that case, it'd be your own fault.

my best guess is that for most people the "pessimistic" outlook is just a combination wanting to be cool/edgy and arrogance.
It's especially funny when it comes to something popular be it a game/song/movie...some people will go on and on how bad it is because it's produced for the masses and everything sucks these days because everything is just made to make money today and they are not swimming with the masses....yeah...hate to break it to you...but if you don't like something because most others like it you might not be swimming with the masses...but the direction you swim in is just as controlled by the mass as if you would swim with it.

For everyone who bitches and moans about their life, there are at least two people who cry that they are "too negative". Since we know that two negatives make a positive I would argue that the Escapist isn't particularly negative, but rather is full of self-righteous pricks.

Really, that's all it takes? Okey, now seriously. :) This is the Internet, for everything you love, there are like 10 people who hate it with a passion. I've come to terms with the fact that gaming (just like most things unfortunately) is a business first and art or whatever later, at least for AAA tittles and just enjoy what I like, and don't care much for what I don't.
This person has said stuff that I took years to learn. Thankfully, it's better to late than never, right?

Yes, the Internet and the people in it will always try to make you feel bad about something you like, this is the reason why I dislike going into community's or social networks, because there will always be one douchebag who will make the experience sour for you.

Personally, I don't care what people think or how they act; simply because they are all online. And I know that if I were to meet many of these pessimistic people, I would keep walking and then go to the pub with some mates. And drink. Soooo muuuch.

I also like to consider myself an optimist. I prefer to see the good in as much as possible, and refuse to give up on things, irrelevant of how shit they may be (Hence why I get pissed off when I see people kill themselves in post-apocalyptic movies/tv series).

Dammit, I saw this from further from my screen than usual. I thought it said titties. I was all "Damn! Those must be some small titties! But I like titties in any shape and size!"

Lets pretend your shopping at a mall with nothing but nerds in it. Okay so your wandering around and haven't decided what you want to buy. You pick up a t-shirt that you like and decide you want it. Go over to the counter and slap the shirt down with the money in your hand. Literally out of nowhere a nerd comes up to you and starts bitching about your choice in fabrics and colors. Kind of pissed off but hes harmless and you ignore him. Look up at the cashier and she puts in her two cents on how the shirt your buying is hurting the children in Africa. Okay now your anger is getting to the point of no return. You have another nerd come up to you and call you an asshole because only idiots buy red shirts. Get to the point of rambo and your only course of action is to shoot every troll in the face.
This is the perfect analogy.

Their geeks, teenagers, atheists, and a lot of them are British; what do they have to be happy about?
