Nope. I wear hats when I need a haircut and can't get one at the moment. So, eat me, bro.
now just curious...how does hat = excuse for haircut?

also, bring it haircutless hatman.

In a K-12 school, it is absolutely ridiculous how fast a case of lice in Kindergarten will travel to all other classrooms.

I agree with you on everything else, though.

I'm going to have to call bullcrap.

My school allows hats and shit like that.

And to think I'm in a class full of idiots* next door to the one full of bigger idiots...

(*Except for that girl I like, her bitchy friend, and that one guy whose name I pretend I don't know.
I think his name is Trevor. Or something.)

You seem to keep making this about you as an individual. im sorry ot tell you but the world does not revolve around you. if application is in general, then you shouldnt expect special treatment. You clearly worry about lice, and tahts great, more power to you. But others dont, and if you do something to lower the chance of the ones that dont at the price of the ones that do, then you do it. Again, its been said before, but it wont kill you to be without a hat. You're not being discriminated against, youre not making some giant social statement, you're not the rosa parks of hat wearers.

In the end, I can only speak for how things work at my school. In general, we had better teachers. They cared how the students did, and they made sure to pay attention to you to see if you were cheating. If you kept looking down and not at your test, you were suspected of cheating, and its very easy to tell when someone is pulling that little stunt.

And hats werent banned for those reasons above. hats werent banned in my school, but they may as well have been, cuase there was only three teachers that didnt mind you having a hat. Those are just examples of hats being used to offend someone, like you asked.

TL;DR Grow up and deal with it, cause thats how the world works sonny. You cant always get what you want, and special exceptions should not be made for you because you feel they should.
I know it doesn't revolve around me, but I was using myself as a template. I assume most people clean their hair, on average, once a day. If they don't, then if they get lice, they shouldn't complain. I don't worry about lice, I just like clean hair more than dirty. It looks better and is lighter. If I go more than two days without showering, it's probably because it's the middle of summer and I'm playing one of the best video games ever. Or I'm at the beach. I know I'm not actually being discriminated against (my point was outdated sexist/chivalric views actually), but it still sucks.

The friends I speak of don't take honors classes or are very intellectual in the first place. Some of them are in JROTC, though, which I find funny.

I don't think they should be made for me. I'm arguing everyone should be able to wear hats in school.

I googled it and I found this:

1 It is impolite to wear hats indoors. Men should always remove their hats when entering a building.
2 They can block the view of people behind them.
3 The colors are often associated with gangs.
4 People play games with them, taking them and playing keep away, etc.
5 Hats can increase the transmission of lice
6 They can be used to conceal weapons or cheating implements
1. Big fucking deal, and no we shouldn't. That is an outdated and arguably sexist way of thinking.
2. They can, but that seems to be a height issue.
3. So are the rest of people's clothing. That's like banning steak knives because knives can be used to kill people, but not banning other knives.
4. Just like with almost any other possession? Great argument, school system.
5. Lice? Freakin' lice? How many people have lice these days? What's more, if you're worried about lice, don't let other people wear your hat. That's what I do. Calling BS yet again.
6. One word: Pockets.

The only thing I can think of that comes even close to a legitimate reason is it blocks your face on cameras. However, I'm pretty sure they could identify you by your hat, not to mention other clothing and backpack.

Can someone please explain why basically every school doesn't allow hats unless it's "spirit week?" Maybe I can actually convince someone to let me wear my damn hat.
The first reason is the real reason. It comes down to tradition and respect. Why should the fork be on the left(or whatever side it should be)? Why do we say please? courtesy doesn't make sense, it's not defined by logic, but tradition. Deal with it.
I say please and am generally nice to people unless they're generally dicks to me (thus I treat them in turn and somehow get a reputation for being a dick). However, hats being rude seems very random to me. Out of the blue random.

Plus, before today, I've never heard that it was rude, except when eating (and even then I disputed it because I thought it was random).

Don't know if it has been mentioned, but essentially it is easier for kids from other schools to sneak in so that they can hang out with their friends all day or vandalize shit. That actually used to be a huge problem when I was in high school.

Some kids from another school blended in with hats and hoodies during the break and beat the shit out of students they had a vendetta against. I even did that and got away with it (the hanging out with friends at another school thing, not the vandalism or jumping people thing.) If you are allowed to have a hat (mostly ball caps) with a hoodie pulled down, you become more difficult to identify. Full stop. I'm sorry but there are always going to be way more kids who want to pull shit than watchful teachers.

Yeah you can complain about it, but one of the main points of school (maybe more so than the curriculum) is to teach you that there is a time and place for everything. The people that don't get that end up being the d-bags who stop to answer a phone call during a university lecture, or show up to job interviews with their "Pussy Hunter" t-shirt. BUT probably more important than that if being taught how to sit down and shut up while someone bellows orders at you.

Not to be cynical or anything.
That's not a problem in my school. Like I said earlier, blanket ban is dumb. It should be a school-by-school basis.

If kids pull shit like that, then they're absent from class or on lunch break. Not my problem.

I'm not the kind of person who likes taking things like a *****. Probably comes with my upbringing (pre K to 6th grade I went to a private Lutheran school that turned me into an Atheist, never went to church, 7th-9th went to a private school that idealized individuality, and probably most significantly, my father is a Libertarian).

Hat's off to you too, sir.

EDIT: OP,

I never went to church either, but I recognise that when someone tells you to do something, there's a fucking reason for it. Take off your stupidly pointless hat as you have zero reason other than a crippled fashion sense to wear it.

Seriously, it's a fucking hat. Your going to get screwed hard if you pursue a job in IT. I fucking hate ties, but I wear them anyway as I want to look like I stand out in a building full of slack-asses who can't even put on a dress shirt. (Also an article of clothing I abhor.)

The arguments aren't the best, but your counteer arguments are terrible and nothing but whining.
1: You said banning it is sexist. How is it sexist to keep both boys and girls from using a piece of clothing?
2: They can block the view from those who sit behind. Not wearing them is the easiest way to fix the problem rather than giving everyone who's not wearing them growth hormones.
3 Steak knives being banned when normal knives are not. Have you ever tried to cut yourself with a butter knife? You could as well cut yourself with a spoon for all the effect it does.
4: Your only solid reason.
5: Lice exist, sharing hats spread lice. Schools can be held responsible.'
6: Try putting your wallet in your pocket. Is there anything on the outside that indicates you've got something in them? A bulge on the outside? Anything? Now try doing the same with something shaped like a gun. Are there any visible signs that you have a gun in your pockets? If you're wearing a thick jacket you might be able to conceal it in an inner pocket. The backpack is probably the best place to hide it, but it's out of immediate reach.

Now for all of you who are against the hat ban. What's your reason why you have to wear hats? Is there anything in the constitution? Is it a civil right? Is it a human right? Name 2 reasons why this is so utterly important.

1. It's important to be polite. If you don't understand why, then you're probably part of the reason that your school has rules forcing you to be polite. Taking a hat off indoors is the same as closing an umbrella when going indoors. Not many (if any) people are likely to be offended but I know plenty of people who will either think differently of you or at least appreciate the gesture of taking off your hat when in their house.
Also, this isn't about sex. A woman wearing a baseball cap or Akubra would be expected to do the same.

2. Seems silly, I'll grant that.

3. This is a legitimate concern. A single fight caused by gang colours is enough of a reason to ban anything non-uniform. If your school has no uniform, well then banning hats seems a little silly but the 1st reason is still valid.

4. This is also a legitimate concern, in fact we had a mate who wore a ratty old hat which we all hated. (none of us wore a hat really) and so we stole his hat and played keep away every single lunch until we were about 16. I also put a kids hat in a tree because I thought it was funny.
On the note of "applies to all posessions", most schools ban everything from mobiles (cells) to novels for the exact same reason. It's usually not enforced (with the exception of phones and media devices because teachers hate them, and kids are stupid enough to use them in class) but is more there so that when shit gets broken and stolen, the school can say "you shouldn't have had it here to begin with."

5. Lice are very common. Especially in schools. I use to get lice pretty much weekly when my sister was in primary school. The thing with lice is that they don't really care what socio-economic background you're from. So long as you have blood, hair that's not mega greasy and are near by, they'll love you.

6. If they could feasibly ban pockets they would. Trust me.

For a little back ground.
I went to a school which had uniform hats, we weren't allowed to wear any other kind; I went to a school which made us wear a hat but didn't provide a uniform one meaning we could wear what we liked; and I went to a school that didn't let us wear them unless on an excursion/sports day etc.
1. I don't? I'm confused, why is it offensive? Tradition, I get, but how did it start, and why doesn't it stop?
3. Double standard for the win.
4. Yeah, that's just dumb fun though. It doesn't matter if it doesn't interfere with anything. Although the tree thing? That was jerkish.
Novels aren't banned here either. If I lose my hat, I take the blame. Or whoever steals it. I'm not going to blame the school (but then again, my brain functions, so that might be the issue here).
5. Oh, good, my hair's mega greasy if I take a shower at any time other than the morning. Probably why I don't get lice - even when other people put on my hat.
6. They're dicks is the only response I can think of.

I went to a school with a uniform and two without. None mandated or let us wear hats.

Hats cause inprobable, but possible problems. Though I do believe they do add to the disputes over what fashion is better and such between insecure kids who don't understand why different is good. Some schools go as far as to make uniforms to prevent this problem all together. There will always be a few exceptions, like a former classmate of mine had cancer... Safe to say the school allowed her to wear a hat of some sort.

Because then people will star wearing classier and classier hats, like trilbies or top hats or tricorners, and then a war shall be started over which novelty hat is the coolest!

...or maybe they'll just look like prats wearing them in school. Yeah, that's probably it.

my solution wear your hat. when they ask you to take it off remove it the next day do not brush or style your hair in any way. let it get greasy and bed-head like as much as you can. if possible start dying it weird colors. wear your hat once every two weeks, eventually teachers and principals will decide the hat is better than your crazy hair. This worked for me, eventually i got it taken to the student council and then put before the principal, i made a coherent and logical and above all polite argument and the rule was repealed.

however it went above her head and school board made it district policy the next year.

Anyway, I don't blindly follow an order. I'm not in the military, so it's not like I have to. If I don't want to do it, no one short of the school rules, the law, or my parents is going to make me.

If I worked in IT, I'd wear a bow tie and my hat. That would stand out in the most contradictory way possible, thus it would work.

1. I believe the argument meant only men were banned from wearing hats. Still, it's only sexist when women can do it and men can't. Not sexist in my school.
2. I can take it off if they ask me. Why should I not have to wear it at all, exactly?
3. Talking about a country-wide thing. Not the best analogy, I must admit, but I've never been very good at analogies.
5. That's a societal issue I think. Still, as I've been told in this thread about eight times, lice are more rampant that I actually knew. If you don't want lice, don't let others wear your hat.
6. Jacket and a holster would work pretty damn well. I was thinking about knives at the time, though.

It's equally important that I wear them that I don't wear them, other than I want to wear a hat. I could probably write it off as Freedom of Expression, but then I'd be hand waving the issue myself, which is what I feel schools are doing, and I hate hypocrisy. That's why I'm complaining so much. Yay complaining.

I went to a Catholic secondary school so they said that you remove a hat because it is like flipping the bird to God if you don't take it off.
everyone thought it was bullshit.
and that is probably why I am not on God's good list.

Yeah it's a district policy, otherwise I think my principle would actually overturn the rule. I tried posting here to get arguments to convince the board, but everyone's all "It's just a hat, get over it."

Here in New Zealand it is compulsory to wear hats outside.

of the 6 detentions I have received in my schooling (so far, but only 2 more days left!!!) 5 of them have been for forgetting my hat.

Have you ever seen what that badguy from James Bond did with one? He took a statues head off they should be banned! That's dangerous! :U

Edit: Also no idea, I recall wearing one just fine as long as the teacher was okay with it. Hoodies however were not okay because you could conceal your headphones. And MP- sorry, CD player at the time were banned as were cellphones when I was in school. Which was stupid since what else do you do in art class besides draw? You need music for it to be more amusing.
