I never went to church either, but I recognise that when someone tells you to do something, there's a fucking reason for it. Take off your stupidly pointless hat as you have zero reason other than a crippled fashion sense to wear it.

Seriously, it's a fucking hat. Your going to get screwed hard if you pursue a job in IT. I fucking hate ties, but I wear them anyway as I want to look like I stand out in a building full of slack-asses who can't even put on a dress shirt. (Also an article of clothing I abhor.)

Anyway, I don't blindly follow an order. I'm not in the military, so it's not like I have to. If I don't want to do it, no one short of the school rules, the law, or my parents is going to make me.

If I worked in IT, I'd wear a bow tie and my hat. That would stand out in the most contradictory way possible, thus it would work.

The arguments aren't the best, but your counteer arguments are terrible and nothing but whining.
1: You said banning it is sexist. How is it sexist to keep both boys and girls from using a piece of clothing?
2: They can block the view from those who sit behind. Not wearing them is the easiest way to fix the problem rather than giving everyone who's not wearing them growth hormones.
3 Steak knives being banned when normal knives are not. Have you ever tried to cut yourself with a butter knife? You could as well cut yourself with a spoon for all the effect it does.

5: Lice exist, sharing hats spread lice. Schools can be held responsible.'
6: Try putting your wallet in your pocket. Is there anything on the outside that indicates you've got something in them? A bulge on the outside? Anything? Now try doing the same with something shaped like a gun. Are there any visible signs that you have a gun in your pockets? If you're wearing a thick jacket you might be able to conceal it in an inner pocket. The backpack is probably the best place to hide it, but it's out of immediate reach.

Now for all of you who are against the hat ban. What's your reason why you have to wear hats? Is there anything in the constitution? Is it a civil right? Is it a human right? Name 2 reasons why this is so utterly important.

1. I believe the argument meant only men were banned from wearing hats. Still, it's only sexist when women can do it and men can't. Not sexist in my school.
2. I can take it off if they ask me. Why should I not have to wear it at all, exactly?
3. Talking about a country-wide thing. Not the best analogy, I must admit, but I've never been very good at analogies.
5. That's a societal issue I think. Still, as I've been told in this thread about eight times, lice are more rampant that I actually knew. If you don't want lice, don't let others wear your hat.

It's equally important that I wear them that I don't wear them, other than I want to wear a hat. I could probably write it off as Freedom of Expression, but then I'd be hand waving the issue myself, which is what I feel schools are doing, and I hate hypocrisy. That's why I'm complaining so much. Yay complaining.

Your only reason for allowing hats is that you want to wear them. There is as you see it no reason why they should not be allowed. If you want to change a rule that has been around there has to be a reason for it. As it is now having the rule hurts no-one. Changing the rule wont gain anything. Rule stays. That's how the world works.

If you wont to ***** and whine about something pointless why don't just complain about the direction the Earth orbits around the sun? I'm sure we would be a lot better off going the other direction.

Because of the prevalence of skin cancer here in Australia, the school system (well in my state anyway) introduced a policy that all kids MUST wear hats outside or be made to sit in a shaded area & can only leave said shaded area to use the bathroom or get their lunch, after which they must return to the shaded area.
But you're still not aloud to wear them inside for some reason. :/

1. It's important to be polite. If you don't understand why, then you're probably part of the reason that your school has rules forcing you to be polite. Taking a hat off indoors is the same as closing an umbrella when going indoors. Not many (if any) people are likely to be offended but I know plenty of people who will either think differently of you or at least appreciate the gesture of taking off your hat when in their house.
Also, this isn't about sex. A woman wearing a baseball cap or Akubra would be expected to do the same.

3. This is a legitimate concern. A single fight caused by gang colours is enough of a reason to ban anything non-uniform. If your school has no uniform, well then banning hats seems a little silly but the 1st reason is still valid.

4. This is also a legitimate concern, in fact we had a mate who wore a ratty old hat which we all hated. (none of us wore a hat really) and so we stole his hat and played keep away every single lunch until we were about 16. I also put a kids hat in a tree because I thought it was funny.
On the note of "applies to all posessions", most schools ban everything from mobiles (cells) to novels for the exact same reason. It's usually not enforced (with the exception of phones and media devices because teachers hate them, and kids are stupid enough to use them in class) but is more there so that when shit gets broken and stolen, the school can say "you shouldn't have had it here to begin with."

5. Lice are very common. Especially in schools. I use to get lice pretty much weekly when my sister was in primary school. The thing with lice is that they don't really care what socio-economic background you're from. So long as you have blood, hair that's not mega greasy and are near by, they'll love you.

6. If they could feasibly ban pockets they would. Trust me.

I went to a school which had uniform hats, we weren't allowed to wear any other kind; I went to a school which made us wear a hat but didn't provide a uniform one meaning we could wear what we liked; and I went to a school that didn't let us wear them unless on an excursion/sports day etc.

You're right, taking off your hat indoors is tradition. It's a way of showing respect, kind of like bowing, or shaking hands, or smiling. It's one of those things that you just do because it's polite, or perposely don't do if you don't give a shit.

For example, a snooty person my not take off their hat indoors if they have no respect for the person whom they are visiting. A landlord/landlady may not take off their hat if they are doing a property inspection, because you're below them.
A man with no respect for his in-laws will wear his hat in their house.

It can also be a "I have no desire, or intention, of staying here long." vibe. It's like not taking your shoes off in a house in which this is customary.

Also there's the obscuring of the face, it is considered pretty rude to not make eye contact and this is sometimes difficult in one party is wearing a hat.

Also it's become associated with delinquent teens with no respect. Similar to how hoodies are often seen (protip: taking your hood off in doors is pretty much the same deal) as the uniform of gang members or delinquents.
Gum/chewie too. If you're chewing gum while talking or listening to someone, it's considered pretty rude.

That being said, I'm sure you could discuss with your teachers and principal the option of wearing your hat outside. I don't know what your a school's campus is like, but in Australia there's usually not a hell of a lot of inside areas and often there's rules which mean you must be either outside or in the library or detention room during break periods. We're not really allowed in the class rooms and there's no other indoor areas I can think of beyond the office at the schools I attended and have worked at.

EDIT: Oh yeah, 3. Just because I think banning hats for the "gang implications" is silly if there's no other dress code requirements relating to gangs for other items of clothing. (eg. if you;re banning hats, then ban do-rags, bandannas, handkerchiefs, etc.) however I think that if you have rules like this then it's fine to ban hats and I still think it's fine to have a rule about hats in class. If you have a hat then it stays in your bag in class.

I honestly didn't know it was a sign of respect. I've been to plenty of houses without taking my hat off and no one commented, or even looked at me funny (and it's not just other kids I'm talking about). The only thing I can think of is because I live in the South, and people around here like hats. Probably not it though. Anyway, all of those other things seem natural to me - society never trained me to take my hat off, therefore I won't (or don't want to) do it. Same deal with gum (I was under the impression that teachers/schools don't like gum because most people just stick it under the desk, which I consider far more rude than anything you have described).

For at least 12 years I didn't make eye contact, I sort of just looked at people's mouths. Nothing to do with hats. Guess I'm just an exception to the rule? Still, it's not hard to push the brim of your hat up when talking to someone.

Every school I've attended has had a school uniform. Every item of clothing I wore at my secondary school had to be bought from the official uniform supplier. The only items of clothing not included in this were hats and coats, but they had to be completely free of branding and in one of the school colours.

And of course, you weren't allowed to wear them (or even HAVE them) in the classroom. Because outdoor clothing is intended for outdoors (to quote my headmaster).

Maybe I can actually convince someone to let me wear my damn hat.

I know a few private schools where hats are compulsory because berets are part of the uniform.

It may be a cultural thing. I was raised by Brits.

I have seen people wear hats indoors. You know those guys who always wear their hat. Those guys. But they take it off when meeting a person's parents or when in trouble or any other time when you'd normally be trying to seem polite and avoid being rude.
The times I've seen those guys wear hats indoors is like when you've got a bunch of mates over watching a movie, or playing games, or if you're chilling out in your own room, but yeah, it's not really common to wear hats indoors in my experience.
We even had a hat stand next to the door.

The chewing gum thing is due to sticking it under desks too, but say for example I got pulled over by a copper and was chewing gum, I'd spit it out before talking to them.
