Repetition is the process by which "mediocre and inoffensive" becomes "shit that is painful and offensive to the deepest part of my being," and as has been mentioned many times, no one in the music industry today is repeated more than Nickelback. Artists that have been around awhile will come out with new material and that will be everywhere for awhile, and I might like it and I might not but generally I'll be tired of seeing it everywhere after awhile. Nickelback has been putting out singles about half my life and it's always been the same sound, which means every time they put out something "new" I can only hate them more because they've already reached that stage with me.

People want to be special and unique little snowflakes. They do this by hating on what's mainstream.

Then there's people like me who also want to be special and unique little snowflakes, but do this by hating on the people hating on what's mainstream.

And I'm sure somebody will come along soon to prove they're an even more special and unique little snowflake by hating on me hating on people hating on what's mainstream.

At which point I'll come back and prove that I'm the most special and most unique little snowflake by hating on the people hating on the people hating on the people hating on what's mainstream.

Seriously, I needed a Nickelback thread, probably as bad as I need another hole in the head.

Don't be sad because you're Never gonna be alone, from this moment on in your love of Nickelback. Because When We Stand Together, we can be proud in our music taste. So I'll be sure to See You At the Show.

Well, if you asked me if I really like Nickelback: Yes is always the answer, it's never a question, 'cause the answer's yes, oh the answer's yes. Not just a suggestion, if you ask the question then it's always yes.

I don't think anyone really "hates" Nickelback actually. Are they a good band? Hell no, they're bland as can be and all their songs sound eerily similar, and most are about stupid crap. But to inspire actual hatred, a band has to generate what can only be classified as "ear poison".

There are songs/bands/entire genres out there right now that, if for any reason someone I know were to start playing them, I would literally hit them until they turned it off: That is music I hate. Nickelback? They're just not particularly good and/or boring, if they happen to be playing somewhere it wouldn't drive me into a violent rage within seconds or make me wish I could spontaneously lose my ability to hear.

No, people resent Nickelback, whether it's because they're Canadian themselves and are embarrassed on their country's behalf, or because they're massively popular and other much better bands that produce the same bloody style of music are practically unknown[footnote]If you actually like Nickelback for instance, look up fellow Canadian band "Default" sometime; if you aren't asking yourself why you ever gave Nickelback the time of day afterwards, there's really no helping you.[/footnote], but nobody really "hates" them, they're just not offensive or awful enough to inspire genuine hatred. A couple of their songs are even halfway decent, but music snobs are leery of admitting that for fear that they'll lose their credibility; expressing contempt for Nickelback is just what music snobs do you see.

If everyone cared, and nobody cried. If everyone loved, and nobody lied. If everyone shared, and swallowed their pride. Maybe they could stop hating on Nickelback, and accept that some people do actually like the music? :/

I get they're not the best band in the world, but some of the mean things said sometimes are just over the top.

Looks like I'm in the minority again.

I actually like most of Nickelback's music. There are worse bands out there.

As to why so many people hate them? Well not everyone likes their music. And those people happen to be very vocal about it.

Also, haters gonna hate.

They're not just bad. They're AGGRESSIVELY bad, and they know it. Any musician who thinks of himself as a musician will push himself, try to develop and grow and produce something new and better. Nickelback just keeps on putting out obvious reskins of the same song over and over again, bringing the wheelbarrow back to the same old money tree that, inexplicably, keeps on producing money.

I don't feel any special by saying that Nickleback is the Creed of this millennium.

I like (or at least used to) Linkin Park, and I know it's mainstream. I like Foo Fighters and even I consider them mainstream.

However, there is really corny mainstream. But I don't rip on Nickleback for being mainstream. It's just because of their sound.

I dislike them because the best complement that I could give any of their songs that I have heard is "I don't HATE it..."

I viciously police myself to being unbiased towards something like music, because music is art and art is subjective. I very rarely say things are "bad" or of "low quality"; I usually just say things like "I don't like it" or "it's good but it's not for me", which is usually true.

Nickelback, however, is bad. There is no creativity behind it. All of their songs harp on the same subjects and sound the same.

It's probably due to the fact that, for all our hatred of hipsters, the nerd demographic has a knee-jerk reaction to anything popular, and Nickelback is pretty popular.

I personally think they're quite good. Clearly not revolutionary, mind you, their songs are a bit formulaic, but not to the extent that people like to claim. Good for a casual listen now and then.

I used to like them back in middle school (2005). Not a lot, but I didn't dislike them and considered the amount of hate they got ridiculous. I hadn't heard anything from them since "Rockstar", but one of their songs (I don't remember which) came on the radio the other day and I remember the distinct desire to pull my own ears off. I don't get why people are out there actively and aggressively vilifying them. I also don't get the hate for Linkin Park. Sure, they haven't done anything even marginally worth listening to since Meteora with the sole exceptions of What I've Done, Bleed it Out, and Waiting for the End. However, there old stuff was awesome, meaningful, and damn catchy.

I mean do we all have to bring up this recurring subject at this time, this place probably doesn't need to be misused. Mistakes happen I understand, but I still don't get why this has to come up all the time as it's been too long. Too late to take it back I suppose though.
