Why don't more self proclaimed Nerds watch Wrestling?

Well why do you watch it? Mostly you seem to be in love with it because it's from japan and Japanese people love it. And some of the wrestlers like anime and read comics. All that asside though because who really does or watches anything because the people in it like some of the same stuff they do. Bottom line is you enjoy it and find it entertaining.

I don't really consider the fact that it's from japan, Japanese people like it and some of the people read comics and like anime good reasons to watch something I find dull, over dramatized and generally just boring to watch. So no I won't watch your videos and I don't think there is anything inherently nerdy with a couple of guys wrestling each other.

The links to Japan were just to get people interested.
Please, just try, it's some pretty good action.
I guarantee it won't be boring.
I'm just a man trying to share something that I think is overlooked and that hasn't been given a fair shake, or that has a lot of untrue stereotypes attached to it.

I can't really speak much for my "nerd" status. I don't read comics aside from the Coheed and Cambria related ones, I don't watch anime, but I do play a ton of video games.

However, I love professional wrestling. I was raised on WCW, then of course the WWE after the buy-out. Nowadays, however, my focus is damn near completely on Ring of Honor and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. Both companies always seem to put on a great show every time, although 2009 was a pretty poor year for Ring of Honor.

Whenever someone asks me why I like wrestling (indie wrestling specifically), I always find it kind of hard to answer. The athleticism is certainly a big part of it. These guys go through hell sometimes, putting their lives on the line to entertain a few hundred to a couple thousand people a night, and still walk out under their own power.

I also love that fact that two guys can go out in that ring... take anywhere from 200 to 70,000 people in the palm of their hands, and tell a story and leave everyone's jaw on the floor by the end of it. I have watched Tyler Black VS Davey Richards from ROH's "Death Before Dishonor VIII" multiple times, and every time I watch it I'm dumbfounded by how amazing it is.

Speaking of story-driven... how about the upcoming ROH show "Best in the World 2011", huh? Davey Richards VS Eddie Edwards, former tag team partners, battling for the ROH world championship. I haven't been this excited for a wrestling match in a long, long time.

Kind of off-topic but, I also love listening to and seeing wrestlers outside of the events. Like listening to Colt Cabana's "Art of Wrestling" podcasts. He talks to fellow wrestlers about how they fist got into wrestling, how they got their start, and they share funny stories from the road. Another example is the documentary "The Wrestling Road Diaries." Colt Cabana, Bryan Danielson, and Sal Rinauro documented like a week and a half of them just on the road. It's an amazing DVD, I recommend it to any wrestling fan.


Of course, we wrestling fans can't make everyone like wrestling. There will always be people who are indifferent to it and, of course, the people who flat-out hate it. The least we can do is try to at least show people that wrestling isn't the side-show attraction that it used to be.

I personally do not watch sports. I find it to be time I would rather be wasting doing something I enjoy. Wrestling would seriously be one at the top of my list of things to torture me with. Big, bulky guys in spandex... *gags*

I did not, and I'm afraid I do not have any intention to, either. In my post, I was mostly referring to that pile of tripe known as WWE Raw.

Yeah. Those guys. The ones that don't look like rapists look like they need to take a shower and lay off the steroids and spray tan for a while.

If the videos you put up are videos of actual "wrestling" wrestling, like the sport, then I have some bad news: I don't like that either. I think the painful images of wrestling WWE Raw has instilled in my head simply do not allow me to enjoy or even take seriously "real" wrestling. I just can't do it. I don't see a couple of men trying to strategically take each other down. I see a couple of sweaty, stupidly muscular guys wearing nothing but spandex underpants grabbing each other in naughty places while thousands of people watch and scream for more. It seems like softcore porn to me more than anything else. I wouldn't be surprised if I saw an audience member reach up and slip a dollar bill in their favorite guy's underpants.

I'm afraid I don't want to enjoy it. I don't eat sushi because I don't like it, and I'm sure as hell not going to watch wrestling when there are plenty of things I can watch that I actually enjoy. I have tried to enjoy it. Some friends tried to get me into it once. I just find it to be very stupid.

Honestly, I don't watch wrestling because I don't watch soab oberas. (Some of my keys aren't working. I'd ask you to guess which, but I can't use question marks either. or closing barenthesis.] And that's all wrestling is,. a soab obera that's geared towards rednecks and adrenaline junkies. It's still a soab obera with all of the terrible acting, ridiculous blots, and overly dramatic characters.

If I wanna watch beoble beat ub on eachother, I'll watch a Muay Thai film, or MMA. The first has a better story, and they both have better combat.

That aside, I never been much into wrestling, but in between Linkara's and Spoony's reviews of the Ultimate Warrior comics, and the discovery of the Macho Man has made me realise that (old school) wrestling had some (pleasantly) wacky characters in it. To the point that I bought WWE All Stars for the 360 because it looked just as wacky and over the top as the personalities found within the game. And I was right about that, I might add, fun game.

That said, I don't think I'll ever be majorly into wrestling, but I can definitely see how it's entertaining. And no I don't particularly mind that it's largely staged.
