Well, I always saw Hapy Tree Friends as a parody of cartoon violence shown in cartoons like Tom and Jerry. When you think about it, its just a real life version of Itchy and Scratchy. Besides, it was Mel Brooks who said "When someone gets a paper cut, thats a tragedy. When someone falls down a manhole and dies, thats comedy"
I ask you, do you watch "Funniest Videos"? Have you ever found yourself laughing at an incident you know you shouldn't be? Are you disgusted by the fact people do? Its the same principle.
Also, there is WAY more to Horror than gratuitious torture and gore but they are VERY effective. Perhaps you might enjoy Vincent Price in any of the Dr. Phibes films. They are a early predessor of the sb genre but its actually done rather well.
Food for thought.
i agree with you.
but if i may make one correction with that quote:
"tragedy is when i get a paper cut. comedy is when you fall down a manhole and die."
it means that if something bad were to happen to you, you would think it is bad.
but when something bad happens to someone els--no matter how bad it is--you would laugh.
and as for "Happy Tree Friends" being nothing but humorless gore videos.
i'm really not in any position to judge it.
mainly because i laugh through movies like "Final Destination" and any other movie scenes where someone gets sliced in half or has his or her intestines ripped out.
honestly, i laugh my head off at these scenes!
am i insane? well i hear voices, have somewhat of a split personality, and i have a chair as a phyciatrist. so i'd say yes.
yet i've been able to use my insanity for more constructive uses.
so being insane is not really a bad thing.
and therefore if no real people get hurt how are things like "HTF" really bad?
it's not the content, it's how it's used.
and really though, a chair works a LOT better then a real doctor
unless you have a physical problem, then get a real one.
