The point of Happy Tree Friends is to be shocking. The humour in it is contrasting cutesy fluffy creatures with horrible deplorable completely over-the-top violence. That's all the joke is.

Understandably some will be upset by it - but really it's not worth it. If HTF gets a laugh out of a few people so what? If you find it deplorable, don't watch it.

Common sense is not always common.

OT: I like the show. Its a nice story, good set up, and has that bonus of how they usually cant talk so its pretty cool. But thats just me. Its all narrative and extremities.

You know what's funny is that I was a combat Corpsman in Iraq and it was my duty to fly into high danger areas to pick up wounded service men & women, civilians and even hostiles in order to patch them up on the way to a higher level of care. I cannot stand seeing any person or animal hurt; it tears me up inside even if it's not a physical hurt. That being said I still find HTF funny as hell because it's not real and it doesn't pretend to be.
That is interesting, do you think that something like Hapy Three Friends helped you to cope with what you have seen ?

Happy Tree Friends isn't offensive, it's just a stupid cartoon. The reason i hate it is because it is utterly pointless and unfunny. Cute little creatures killing eachother, well isn't that ingenious! Those who find the show funny and entertaining are halfwits.

I remember the first time I ever saw it, back when I was a bit, well, wimpier. I seriously fainted. It's embarrasing to admit that the only time I have ever fainted was because I watched a blue moose cut his leg off with a spoon, but there's no point in me denying it. I can stomach it now, but I don't really find it all that funny.

At least these guys were good with writing Madworld and Sonic Colors.

To be honest it kind of reminds me of the Itchy and Scratchy Show from the Simpsons. Also a bit of Ren and Stimpy.

It doesn't really offend me, but I don't find it particularly entertaining or funny. It's also a bit like that Fairytale Fights game. Kind of funny gory for the first incident you see, but turns into a big meh after that.

Still, that's just me. I have a friend who loves it, the hilarious thing being that she's a total sweetheart, innocent girly girl. It's awesome to watch her cackling away to Happy Tree Friends through her sparkly pink headphones. More power to her! =D

Well, I always saw Hapy Tree Friends as a parody of cartoon violence shown in cartoons like Tom and Jerry. When you think about it, its just a real life version of Itchy and Scratchy. Besides, it was Mel Brooks who said "When someone gets a paper cut, thats a tragedy. When someone falls down a manhole and dies, thats comedy"

I ask you, do you watch "Funniest Videos"? Have you ever found yourself laughing at an incident you know you shouldn't be? Are you disgusted by the fact people do? Its the same principle.

Also, there is WAY more to Horror than gratuitious torture and gore but they are VERY effective. Perhaps you might enjoy Vincent Price in any of the Dr. Phibes films. They are a early predessor of the sb genre but its actually done rather well.
Food for thought.
This sums up my thoughts pretty well. Thanks for saving me some keystrokes.

Happy tree Friend's is literally the most repulsive thing I have ever seen. To me, it is worse than Hostel or Saw could ever be, simply because the violence depicted in the cartoon is not limited by a budget, only by the imaginations of the sick bastards who make it.
Happy Tree Friends is in the same bucket as formerly mentioned Saw and Hostel. These types of "entertainment" rely on copious amounts of gore to shock you, and personally I can't stomach it. I don't really enjoy horror, mostly because the thought of "horror" always comes back to movies like Saw that litter the genre.
Happy Tree Friends freaked me out. The video I saw was completely innocent up until the point someone got there head pulled through the drain of a kitchen sink.

I could understand this, to a certain extent, that if such gratuitous violence was used to make a point, or to be ironic, or SOME kind of symbolism, but there is none. People think it's FUNNY. FUNNY!?

I know that this argument isn't the best, but I don't care. I HATE HAPPY TREE FRIENDS.

Argue with me if you want, or agree with me. I don't care, i'm bored.
Appearently you are not familiar with death metal. A genre solely for shocking people who doesn't understand. The lyrics are usually about necrophilia, incest, death, rape etc. One of the greatest things ever. Unlike faggy goths or emo kids, death metal musicians don't mean what they sing or write about. They don't want you to dig up your dead mother and mung her. It is not to be viewed at with serious eyes. Not all death metal dudes realise this, but that's how it is. I guess what I am trying to say is, that Happy Tree Friends is NOT made just to repulse you, but there's actually great humor behind. Perhaps humor you don't get, but i don't blame you.. It's fucked up.

I 100% agree.
I'm a huge fan of cartoon violence but happy tree friends is just lame.
I just cannot understand how it's funny. It's sick.

It is just a bit overly, disturbing to watch but some people have bizarre senses of humor.

I used to love watching Happy Tree Friends with my pals when I was twelve years old. It was the perfect rare treat: Frowned on by adults, full of crazy violent gore, yet not quite enough to make us spew.
Nowadays, I watch an episode every few months for the nostalgia. It's worth a few chuckles.

There's no reason to take HTF seriously.

It's Black comedy. Don't take it so seriously, the fact is - people are intrigued by all that is sick, and frankly some of the stuff in there is disgusting, but so is life. I mean shit like Hostel probably HAS happened - and far worse; this is just a funny little cartoon.

(BTW, never actually seen Hostel - I'm assuming violent torture, etc.?)

I never got into it. I found that the idea of mutilating cute and fluffy creatures was boring. To me, it seemed like something that an immature person (no offence intended to anyone on these forums) would find amusing.

I started liking it and then I lost interest.
This is exactly what happened to me. Maybe I grew up or something but it just doesn't interest me anymore. I still can watch it but I just get bored with it very quickly, but the violence isn't an issue to me.

It seems like it was created to cater to the Hot Topic crowd. It also seems to exist to let people wallow in negativity and make it into an identity.
In the same bucket as Johnny the Homicidal Maniac.

Yeah, it's fucked up, tasteless and overall immature. Seriously, this shit is on par with Funniest Home Videos on the sophistication levels. No one but fucked up teenagers and kids from broken homes should find this entertaining.

It's not funny unless viewed with irony or contrast in mind (the WORST kind of humour), it's disgusting and bordering on psychotic on the creator's part.

Hats off to the sick retard who invented the concept.

Does it disturb me? No, not really, it just sickens me that someone would waste their time and money making something this stupid and tasteless.

I own the boxset.
Its really one big joke about cartoon violence.
And the ways the kill some of the characters? Oh man, that takes some thought and planning.
its not like theyer just getting gored. Theyer getting put through the wringer several times, and oftin ends in some ironic way that gives closure to the entire event.

If you don't mind me asking can you give us a few examples of past jobs and areas you have lived, I'm assuming your in the army?

Happy Tree Friends is no different than something like Saw. Just a weak plot made to tie together a load of cool looking death scenarios.
I don't find it particularly funny but I do enjoy watching it sometimes, or I did when I was younger at least.
