The way I see it, it's like the hypothetical perfect rendition of the musical CATS. All the production values are phenomenal, and those interested in the medium will get a huge kick out of how well everything is put together. They even have a few walk-on actors who act out some little joke at one point as a shout out to those who like the musical and were dragged there by others. Ultimately, it's hard to complain about anything in the execution of the show, but how I wish to God that the talent hadn't been wasted on CATS.

If you love CATS, replace it with something you don't like.

So, as a quick question: Is it comparable to Avatar: The Last Airbender in terms of quality? Like writing, animation, stuff like that? Cuz like the original poster I've been half considering starting to watch it.
I didn't watch much ATLA but I like the animation style for MLP better. It's certainly not low quality. The writing is solid too with none of that "say it with me kids!" crap in most shows aimed at young children. It's not too easy to make a comparison because MLP is a sitcom with ponies and ATLA was a really long story.

*GASP*

Anyone who doesn't know who Kanji is is not a real gamer.
Sorry, but who the hell is Kanji? All of my google searches bring back results about a language so I'm clueless.
They talk about him in this video.

Where was the warning about that being the single most annoying voice ever? Regardless, I still have no idea who Kanji is, or why knowing who he is affects my status a "gamer".

I just meant in terms of good storytelling, I mean no pulling solutions out of their asses, characters actually behaving like real people...er... ponies. And as for animation is is smooth with no flintstones-esque repeating backgrounds, stuff like that.
They feel pretty realistic as far as cartoons go. There's also some nice self-awareness that helps them them seem a bit more real. Instead of in say a Disney movie, where everyone starts singing and no one goes, "why the fuck are we singing", when Pinkie begins singing the others aren't too happy about it.

It's easier to show than to tell:

Pinkie Pie is extremely random, and generally breaks physics (as in she just appears and teleports randomly), and instead of just accepting it everyone is like, "Pinkie Pie you're so random" and "don't try to understand her; she's just being Pinkie Pie".

They also aren't as one dimensional as they seem at first. For example, Rarity comes off as a fashionista but is extremely generous and knows how to handle herself in intense situations.

I don't care what anyone says.

Pinkie Pie isn't random.

The last random character in any TV that was likable was Ed from Ed Edd and Eddy, and he was only semi-random there.

Pinkie Pie doesn't make completely out of the blue statements. There is always a connection, no matter how little it may seem to have a semblance, to the situation at hand.

I don't know if you fucked up when writing that but I never said any of that, it was someone else and for some reason it says it was me.
Yeah I probably did...new to forums.
Anywho, back on topic. Have watched the first few episodes and...yeah I endorse it. decent show.

It gets a lot better, particularly in the latter half of the season. I found the first couple episodes a little underwhelming, honestly.

So what did "so I said 'oatmeal? are you crazy?'" have to do with anything in Ticket Master?

Oatmeal?! Are you crazy?

I think I've discovered the show at the worst possible time, what with exams looming. It's the first cartoon in about 8 years I've genuinely warmed to, and the creative community surrounding it is honestly one of the most accommodating and original Internet communities I've come across. Great fun, but terrible for my revision timetable.

You've summed up pretty much everything I feel about the show. Long live the ponies!

Here is a little chart the show's fans (and not fans?)for comparison.

I would make it a spoiler thingy but i don't know how.
I think I started at the bottom of this chart and slowly descended upwards.
Descended upwards? You mean you Ascended?
Can't you just let one mistake slide? This is the internet.

Why is it so popular?

It's cute, well animated, and pretty funny. The show being "pretty enjoyable" is multiplied by the fact that EVERYONE expected a My Little Pony reboot to suck as much as the original. When it did not, people were pleasantly surprised.

Another reason is because most other American cartoons these last few seasons have been really bland or boring.

Edit: Also, the simplistic art and exaggerated expressions lends itself well to image macros. Internet folk love them some image macros.

Yeah, cartoons not so great except for Adventure Time and Regular Show.

Live-Action ones are pretty good though.

Thanks. ^^ Especially for the heads up on the group.

Eh....I probably shouldn't say any more. I'm pretty sure there's a rule or something against non-helpful posts......so....I'll see ya around!

Just hop on in, though I admit I thought this discussion was dead, but a new face makes it worthwhile.

Oh, and an extra round of applause for learning to use the search button before just going out and making a post asking about stuff around here.

That was intentionally taken out of context. Ever walked into a room where someone was already having a conversation, and as you come within earshot the first thing you hear makes the speaker look crazy?

I'm not sure what oatmeal has to do with Pinkie Pie going to the Grand Galloping Gala at all. As far as I'm concerned that was completely random.

Then there's the "and that's how Equestria was made" comment in CMC.
