Am I missing something, or is Steve Jobs just being presented as even more of an uptight asshole than people thought he was?

I never understood the Apple fandom though, Scientology seems more reputable in comparison. At least they don't brainwash you...and you should all join the Cult and give your money to XENU!...because that would be illegal.
I think most rich people are assholes when they can be.

Another point they didn't mention is that SJ said something along the lines of "Bill Gates is a pussy for being a philanthropist since he isn't a good business man".

Most people are assholes when they can be. The rich just have the power to do it more often

Are we really that surprised guy went on weird power trips? I'd be more surprised if it turned out he was a perfectly casual dude and good people to everyone. History has shown lots of great minds did not make good company for varying reasons.

What he said. Can you imagine the fuss if a teacher, nurse or social worker did the same thing?

Long story short, Jobs was a bit of a prat?

Something that really pissed me off was how he said Bill Gates never created anything himself, only ripping off others. Even though OSX and Windows are both (to varying degrees) based on Unix, and the iPad was far from being the first tablet, or even revolutionary to any degree. He simply marketed it better.

So much win. Cry some more peons, if you had the cash and status of Jobs you'd probably do the same if not something worse. I know I sure as hell would.

It's not (only) the marketing. Apple products are polished to a crisp and they live perfectly together (mostly). It's this complete ecosystem that makes Apple work (Mac - iTunes - iPad).

Jobs WAS an asshole.

As for Apple, I agree. The fans are beyond retarded. There's no reasoning with them.

As for Jobs being a genius, he was. Whether he was being creative or just cleverly (and underhandedly) screwing someone over and profiting from it, he certainly had an edge of genius about him. Still a prat, though.

Go to the D.M.V. and spend less than 50 bucks on a new plate or have a system set-up to buy a new car every 6 months(With added bonus of Handicap parking.)... The man was a genius.
Leasing=/=Buying. It's more akin to renting.

The relevance of the "Handicapped spaces" information? Does having no plates allow you to legally do this or is it just fluff?

Also: Seems the "too soon" period for pissing on the deceased for Jobs is now over!

Meh, good old Steve. Now I see why fans of his products tend to be on the obnoxious side. No doubt he will be praised for this very thing at some point. Yay technology?

I'm kind of enjoying the change of pace. Usually when a famous person dies it's just non stop people talking about how great they were. Here, while that is still happening, it's rivalled by detail after detail about how much of a dick he really was. I approve.

Parking in handicapped spaces just because he can make it legal? Oh so he didn't just make things that stop working after a certain period of time in order to encourage the buying of the latest and newest, at the cost of the planet's environment?

So he was a malicious person in the short term AND the long term.

Colour me surprised. Even I thought he was a better man than that, and I'm hardly a fan of Mac technology. Clearly, we should always be sceptical when viewing a media bonanza about someone famous who died. Sometimes there's agendas in making us want to be like that person among media moguls and other vested interest behind the scenes.

I know that America loves a rich winner but, if he's this morally bankrupt, I don't like seeing him raised as an icon.

In any case, I don't see how being famous makes you worthy of this much media hype. A child who dies of starvation in a third world nation is worth no less than Steve Jobs. Perhaps they could be worth far more from a moral assessment point of view.

There's a line where telling us of a famous person dying as a service to the public who want to know stops, and pushing an "entrepreneurs are heroes, give them more bonuses" agenda starts. This particular blitz goes far past that line. Feature articles focusing on Steve Jobs are absolutely rife of late.

Rather appropriately to this discussion, I watched Citizen Kane just last night. As that film relates so eloquently: if you manage to become rich, and use your riches poorly, then your capacity for selfish acts, self-humiliation and childishness (just as we've seen in this article) expands with it. I'd consider Steve Jobs' life to be just as cautionary a tale.

Steve Jobs has always been an arse.

I'm not exactly surprised. He was probably buried in the handicapped slot.
His only handicap was death! Then again, that particular ailment would probably satisfy a wandering policeman not to give him a ticket.
