Look I won't defend the man's eccentricities with money because I hate it when rich people fuck around with their wealth, but Jobs wasn't all bad. If you don't like Apple's products fine, but don't let your bias against the products cast on the man too. He was a demanding asshole but the book also talks about how he made people feel like they could meet his demands. He brewed confidence in his workers. Also he did contribute to charity privately, not on the scale of Gates but then Gates' philanthropist side is rare not just among the rich but among ALL people. Apple also is the number one contributor to Product Red in case you guys thought they didn't do ANYTHING philanthropic.

And no of course he didn't invent everything himself. That wasn't his job. But you can't deny that when he wasn't in charge Apple lost its spark and creativity. It returned when he did. And without competition from Apple, Microsoft would, and in fact did go quite stale, which is in part why the interface of Windows 7 bears a lot of similarities with OS X.

No he and Apple didn't create smartphones, touch screens, or tablets. But you can't deny that they sparked a lot of interest in these areas. Apple broke out the App market which is now a standard for nearly all smartphones and providers. Apple tech creates some of the most imaginative solutions to problems. While many of these solutions are often gimmicky it shows that Apple is always trying to push the fold of what technology does and how we interact with it.

So we're done with the blind praise of a man who probably had very little impact on the "revolutionary" products he's attributed to creating? Alright, fine, but it certainly seems rather schizophrenic when you then start digging up dirt on him.
He's got plenty of dirt on him now.

About 6 feet worth of dirt.

Oh!

How is this news?
For once I am inclined to agree with the posting of this question. Anyone who didn't know Steve Jobs was an asshole lived in Tibet or Darkest Africa. Bringing this stuff up is no surprise, and frankly does nothing to help me feel better for humankind. I'm glad I never bought an Apple.

So a man with alot of money was playing around with it. No one, NO ONE here could deny that say if you had 5 billion dollars. You wouldn't do weird stuff with it at least once.

Meh. To a good few of us (myself included), these are specific things that make it clear that he wasn't just a cutthroat businessman: he was just a flat-out dick.

Wouldn't a regular leased car have the same anonimity effect? It wouldn't be his car either.

I want to know where are those silver Mercedes SL55 AMG he had replaced?
They were loaded with food and money, then burned in a public display in front of homeless shelters.
Damn, this made me laugh. At the same time, it's not exactly a good thing that such a display would not have seemed all that surprising...I mean, it's not like homeless people ever bothered to buy Apple products.

Story seems suspicious. Don't most CEOs have their own private parking spot? All the story seems to be is "Mercedes with no plates parked in disabled spot!" Without the plates, it's impossible to prove who actually owns the car. Hell, anyone could rent a merc, remove the plates, park on the grave of Mother Teresa and claim it was Jobs. It amazes me how very few people question the validity of articles. Just sayin'.

I actually find this pretty funny. Yes, this article does make Jobs look like a bit of a jerk (okay maybe that is an understatement), but for some reason it makes me like him even more. I guess I like old rich famous trolls...
Kudos to Mr.Jobs, he was a genius. A genius that used his big ass awesome brain to get around parking tickets.

So much win. Cry some more peons, if you had the cash and status of Jobs you'd probably do the same if not something worse. I know I sure as hell would.
No, probably not, because I'm not a dick.

Okay, that's not true, I /am/ a bit of a dick.

What I mean to say is: I'm not a /piece of shit/.

So...he was kind of a jerk in life? I never really followed the man and the only Apple product I own is an iPod Nano, so I don't know much. Is this a pretty accurate idea of what he was like?

Am I missing something, or is Steve Jobs just being presented as even more of an uptight asshole than people thought he was?

I never understood the Apple fandom though, Scientology seems more reputable in comparison. At least they don't brainwash you...and you should all join the Cult and give your money to XENU!...because that would be illegal.
I'm not sure myself if he is an asshole or not but my uncle used to work in the same building as him.

He didn't say much about him being an asshole or anything but he did say that he was completely skeptical about the economy and didn't give a shit about economical or world problems (he disregarded the U.S decreasing economy but would still fire workers and do things 'his way'
He dropped all charitable programs at Apple when they were losing money. When they made the billions with the iPod/iPhone/iPad sales, he never restored them. It took the new CEO to do that.

So what was his excuse for parking in handicap spaces?
Seriously, what a dick, how did info like this not get spread like wild fire when he was still alive?
He only parked in the handicap spots on the apple campus, which he owned.

Are we really that surprised guy went on weird power trips? I'd be more surprised if it turned out he was a perfectly casual dude and good people to everyone. History has shown lots of great minds did not make good company for varying reasons.
From most of the people close to him, he sounds pretty chill. A little obsessive, (and somewhat insane) but not in the angry dictator sort of way.

Making a handicapped person hobble, crawl, push their way to the shop front, WHAT A ****, ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS HAS A FUCKING FAKE LEG AND HE LIVES IN CALIFORNIA HE HAS MORE THAN MOTHERFUCKING LIKELY HAD TO SUFFER TO GET SOMEWHERE EVERYONE SHOULD BE HAPPY THIS PRICK IS DEAD!

And yes I will talk in fucking ALLCAPS when I feel like it but this shit is a dog act.
Before you go on a capfuck spree, please understand that he only parked in a handicapped spot on property that he legally owned. Also, even if he parked in random handicap spots, why should everyone be happy he is dead?

Were I a police officer, I would have loved to have dropped a boot on this car in the handicapped spot, then when he called to have it removed.. "No problem sir, we just need the plate on it so that we know it's yours."
Let me get this straight. You are going to walk into apple headquarters, and tow steve jobs car. I don't care if you are the fucking queen of england, that is not going to happen.

Basically what the article is saying that he was a asshole who parked his car in handicapped spaces and denied longtime employees stock options "just because he could".

He was a genius in tech but it seems like he was a person who wants to show others how much of a "d*ck" he is.

Steve Jobs failed to look after one of his kids.He lied and said he was sterile to get out of child support.

https://forum.suprbay.org/showthread.php?tid=105956&pid=683121

"It is less well known that in 1977, when his live-in girlfriend Chris-Ann Brennan became pregnant, Jobs denied paternity, and demanded she abort the baby. When she refused, he threw her out. When the child Lisa Nicole was born and a DNA analysis proved that he was the father, Jobs still refused to pay child support, even though mother and child were living on welfare. It took a court order to make him cough up the cash."

F*ck his dead ass with rusty razors. As Jackie Kennedy said,if you fail at parenthood, whatever else you achieve, you fail at life.I don't care if the guy cured fucking cancer, treating his child and her mother like this makes him a Grade A douchbag. While I like Apple products, they're way too expensive and the DRM/locked in system they have(e.g you can't play Apple Movie files you PAID for on a USB set top box unless you remove the DRM or buy an Apple TV)is a total PITA.

I hope his non-acknowledged child is dancing on his grave and gets a lawyer to win a big chunk of the estate.
As the carer of a handicapped relative who died recently, the parking space thing sh*ts me too.I have health issues of my own,and I can't tell you how exhausting it can be to get disabled person out of car, into wheelchair & then push said chair a zillion miles to the entrance because all the handicapped spaces are gone. Then you come out of the building and a see a lone, perfectly able person skipping at a jaunty pace to their car in a handicapped space. If guns were legal in Australia I'd-well,you get the point.People who think the world revolves around them are NOT cute. There's a reason they call it Narcissistic Personality DISorder:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissistic_personality_disorder
Jobs to a tee,I;d say.
