So. Many. Shows.

Kid's shows were alot better back in the early 90's, grew up on DBZ, BeyBlades, Digimon, Thomas The Tank Engine, Sam and Max. (I did anyway.)

Now its all this educational crap like Dora The Explorer and shit.
i have made up my mind and i reckon that the reason why kids are so annoying and bratty its because they didn't have role models like Goku and Popo

------------------------

but yea the crappy educational Kids shows are boring as hell. no kids wants to hear about a Gecko's camouflage technique they want explosions and fighting when they wake up. that was the best thing getting some Toast and watch Goku battle Freiza.

But oh no then these shows promote fighting and makes the kids turn into Fighters and drug addicts [sarcasm]

I wish to nominate Spongebob Squarepants. For the life of me I cannot figure out the appeal of this show whatsoever. If I wanted to watch hyperactive idiots run around and fuck stuff up for 15 minutes I'd go to my friend's house and give her kids sherbet.

I hate a lot of them. Johnny Test and The Looney Tunes Show are among the worst. Nostalgia ruins Spongebob Squarepants for me. I also saw the preview (aka early premiere) for Secret Mountain Fort Awesome. What the hell were they thinking when they made it? Did they actually think grotesque shows sell?

EDIT: Wait, I just remembered something else. I used to like Chowder a lot and I didn't understand why people hated it. Then I figured out why - it's really bad.

also, whatever happened to awesome shit like this for commercials/between shows?

I used to watch cartoon network all day so the little music videos annoyed me because they kept repeating.
ill agree that it did get old after seeing the same one 10x a day,

however i still say this was better than most "creative bullshit" they try today
The bumps now are so fucking annoying with the two halts of the logo shouting at each other.
..what?

the bumps of what? and what logo shouting at what...

not trying to sound rude but i have no idea what you are talking about, and now i'm curious

Family Guy (and to think, it actually used to be good), Fanboy and Chum-Chum, The Looney Tunes Show. Sidekicks, Almost Naked Animals... basically some of the "big hits" on TV channels these days.

(Admittedly, I do like Johnny Test... but will admit it's getting kinda old by now...)

Also, why the hate for Chowder/Regular Show/Adventure Time, My Little Pony and the like? Apparently, some people on the site have varying standards... myself included.

Lets see here..."Problem solverz" for being generally shit; "amazing world of gumball" for being a horrifically annoying Chowder rip off; Generator rex and the million ben 10 spinoffs; Johnny Test for being a loud, poorly animated, mess of adhd nothingness; Every live action show on cartoon network because 1.IT'S CALLED CARTOON NETWORK YOU FUCKING IDIOTS, NOT "WATCH A BUNCH OF RETARDED BROS DO SHIT AND THEN YELL WOOOOOOO" NETWORK, and 2.YOU CANCELED SAMURAI JACK, DEXTER'S LAB,EDD ED and EDDY, TOONAMI AND EVERYTHING ELSE THAT MADE YOU GREAT IN EXCHANGE FOR A BILLION POUNDS OF SHIT.

I swear, if it wasn't for adventure time...
I'm sorry but,

How do you write a list like that and leave out "Magus XLR"?

Edit:That is by name.
Because I already put Megas XLR on this list. Escapees dig giant robots!
PS: You misspelled it... Sorry, just needed to point that out...
Well other's that he mentioned are mentioned already too.
And about the Megas thing.... I guess I need some sleep ^^; a thousand pardons for my miss spellings of such a great show ended before it's time.
Kind of makes me come off like a jerk... Oh well. Sleep tight, whoever you are.
Sorry if you felt that way but Megas and Magus both sound a like (when spoken properly for this context)but I don't mind a little constructive criticism.

Fixed for ya. There is nothing redeeming about yu-gi-oh, any season.

this is redeemable. he's almost got the personality and competence of a standard shonen character.

but yea, every other character sucks. though the japanese version of the show is ok. (seriously, 4kids is horrible)

it's among the higher shows from this genre, below monster rancher and digimon. shows which have A PLOT (le gasp!) and character development (ok, this is Japanese version only)

bottom tier are pokemon (redeemable only through nostalgia), battle b-dman and duel masters.
i guess it's a guilty pleasure for me.
His laugh alone makes it for me. Seriously, ever heard the way he laughs in the Japanese version?

ANYTHING that's on Adult Swim after Family Guy and KoTH. All those cartoons suck so much. Poorly animated, poorly written, terrible sense of humor. Those shows and time slots are like Florida. It's where useless stuff goes to die.
That is a stupid idea and you are stupid for having it.

Currently, mine is Johnny Test.

It's just so uninteresting, so annoying, so bad looking, so repetitive...
Disobeys the law of CARTOON physics.
Dog is adult oriented but fails miserably to be a good role model for the protagonist, ruining the arc.
The sisters are testing experiments, as dangerous enough to kill both the Continent, but probably the universe.
Johnny is so fucking stupid that he doesn't even need a REASON to do anything if he can make a bad decision, HE WILL!
Re uses the same jokes from the SAME EPISODE a minimum of 10 times.
I could go fucking on from every SINGLE episode teaching kids a lesson in such a FUCKING POOR WAY that its ruining kids and teaching them being entitled shits, always being random and asshole like will make them superheroes to every single performance being phoned in.

Personally, Honey B, one, its uses EVERY SINGLE FUCKING stereotype ever, any cartoon directed towards young girl should really teaching them to be independent, but this teaches little girls that nothing is worth while except for collecting and obtaining anything means your superior. All of the actors phone it in. Every character arc is a stereotype with NO arc and none bridge to increase other arcs. The protagonist is the ONLY good character, because she has a fucking conscious and a brain, but not a lot of those.

MLP: Friendship is Magic.

The animation is Flash-grade crap, the characters/morals are some of the worst I've ever seen in a children's t.v. show aimed for girls (in general, even), and the obsession by the (mostly male) internet fan-base is BEYOND creepy - not much of a surprise given it is the equivalent of catnip for combination Furries/Pedos.

Sorry OP, but this show is the biggest pile of sh*t on television in my humble opinion, and if the fore-mentioned Furry/Pedo combos can't deal with that without making a ruckus then they can blow it out their arses.
Wow, Pedophile never had that one before.(How does that even work? There arn't any people?)
I don't really know why people have to hate it to god damn hell, instead of hating something like Honey B which is telling little girls to be obsessive, and that you can not be unique in any way. My Little Ponies is the DBZ to little girls, DBZ was the same SHIT in a nut shell, GOAL THERE, POWER UP FOR GOAL, GOAL OBTAINED, GOOF AROUND ALL THROUGHOUT! Its the same exact thing in a god damn nut shell. Again, its the DBZ for young girls. The amount of hate dedicated to it is more scary then a guy liking an episode, to be honest, I watched half of the first episode, then half of DBZ and I felt more happy when watching [this was for science people, calm the FUCK down.] both, both provoked happiness, therefore, it doesn't matter, because if it can make you happy, then you enjoy it. Again, focus hate on something that is worse like Johnny Test or any of the other shows, just stop hating something that really doesn't NEED the hate, since your just letting shittier things escape hatred. I just don't get it, people seem to hunt and kill people over the show, its just perplexing.

Uhhhh, because some cartoons are very well made and can therefore be enjoyed by both children and adults?

Should only children watch and enjoy The Lion King?

Should only children watch and enjoy the Toy Story films?

Should only children watch and enjoy Invader Zim?
well what i meant was people in the first couple pages were ocmplaining about dora the explorer and suchlike. you, shows that AREN'T made to be enjoyed on multiple levels.

Heyheyhey! Animaniacs was educational and awesome!... Plus Freakazoid... God those 2 shows were awesome
What about The Magic Schoolbus? That was also educational AND awesome.

OT: I honestly don't know what cartoons are on now, I haven't watched one in years (besides the odd flash cartoon and some limited clips on Youtube). Although I do dislike some of the really creepy stuff kids are watching now like Wayballoo and In The Night Garden. I grew up on Beetlejuice, The Addams Family, Goosebumps, Tale From The Cryptkeeper and Are You Afraid Of The Dark? and none of them were anywhere near as creepy as those formless masses of felt making squeaky grunts in your face and dancing around for no explainable reason.

Wait, here's an example to illustrate what I mean.

I know it's not intended for anyone who's reached "the age of reason" but I still think this stuff is just plain weird and creepy and this is coming from a guy who watched The Clangers, Fraggle Rock and The Wombles.

Also, you're welcome for all the nostalgia I just packed into this post.

What's with all the Yu-Gi-Oh! hate? It's good cheesy fun, just like any Shonen anime. The new one in Japan (ZEXAL) is absurdly bad though (Like GX). 5D's is actually pretty damn good for the first 64 episodes, and I will stand by that. Yes, it asks you take a card game seriously, but elsewise it's a decent dystopian monster battle Shonen show.

Although, I definitely have nostalgia goggles for the franchise and still play the card game, so feel free to completely ignore me.
Pretty much. It was cheesy fun for 9 year olds, but has the approximate cultural value of a dead squirrel and the entertainment value of watching paint dry if you're not in that age group.

Actually, the vast majority of the shonen genre can be characterized this way as well.

Also, decent shonen is like saying "decent human being that's a serial killer", you've set the bar so low that rising above doesn't actually mean much.
I'm going to have to disagree with the "approximate cultural value of a dead squirrel" thing, there's a lot of cultural value in a series that utilizes different cultures to make up it's mythology. The Peruvian stuff in 5D's is surprisingly accurate, as was the Egyptian study of the afterlife in the original (Duel Monsters) series. As for "entertainment value of watching paint dry", that's purely subjective.

Also, there are plenty of Shonen series that could be described as above "decent", some popular ones that I've seen critically praised are Claymore, Death Note, and Fullmetal Alchemist. Although, they are the exception, I think it's enough to rise the remark to above "better than a serial killer". I could say the same about any medium and genre.
And an occasional piece of window dressing makes up for a lack of any substantial originality whatsoever? The completely bland characters? The forgettable story?

Same things for entertainment, unless you're easy distracted by occasional pretty colors and nice monster design, there's nothing substantive to keep you entertained past childhood, without the benefit of nostalgia anyway.

As far as FMA and Death Note (I'm unfamiliar with claymore so I can't comment), they're good because they ignore most of the conventions of the genre. That's why they don't really bring the genre itself up, just themselves.

As for shows they need to desperately need to get rid off?
- Johnny Test, The Garfield Show, Spongebob Squarepants (anything after season 3), Ben 10: Enter Subtitle Here, later seasons of any anime based on a game (Pokemon, Beyblade, etc.) and Naruto Shippuden.

I am almost 25, but I prefer cartoons (and perhaps a live-action drama or education program) over mind-numbing reality television any given day...
I can't watch that show, I'm not sure if the lip sync was made for another language but my god, is it awful! It's like watching those old Japanese Godzilla movies with the English dub.

Family Guy. It's poorly written, weak in humour and adored by young-teens who prefer its crudity and irrelevance over subtle and intelligent humour.
Seconded.

Ah, if only Top Cat would come back to us.
