Worst Noob Combo

I think this whole discussion is a little ridiculous. It would be one thing if any of these methods being complained about (and I will not address every particular one) was only ever available to certain people, but in most if not all of these cases, you can use the exact same stratagy if you wish. In most cases, there is some counter to the combo, special attack, or whatever. If it's just a case of the game being unbalanced and you don't want to resort to the same tactics, DON'T PLAY! Last time I checked, the purpose of any given game is to win. If I find a consistently successful way to accomplish this, guess what? I'm going to use it. If someone else finds a consistently successful way to win, good for them; it makes me a better player to try to defeat them.

Here's an example: Martyrdom in COD4-if you can't get away, throw the grenade! If you're not quick enough, then YOU'RE NOT QUICK ENOUGH! Deal with it and stop complaining.

Yeah, that's indeed one of the things all the GoW1 players are complaining about, but I dunno, I think the shotgun is still a pretty nasty weapon. I hear the range has been increased too. (But I haven't noticed it myself, as I never played much GoW1, certainly not online.)
...Well, it probably has been nerfed, but that's not saying much. In GOW1, At close range, the only thing more deadly is the chainsaw, and thats slow as hell. With the shotty you don't even need to stop moving!
Yes, I noticed that too when I played a round of GoW1 online a while ago just to compare. People were blowing me away with a shotgun just by peeking around a corner some meters away.
By the way, if you really hate getting killed with the chainsaw, you might want to not get GoW2..
I didnt say that, but why? is the chainsaw a prooblem?

How has no one mentioned the Blue Shell of Death? It only ever gets found by the guys in the last couple of places, for whom it is the least useful, and it is (as far as I know) unavoidable.
Hells yes. I used to play MarioKart with up to 8 people at school. The general rule is: let someone else to lead until the last section of the last lap. Also, if you ARE driving in first, be ready to slam on the breaks and take the second/third placer with you. Generally races seperate into two or three groups. Take out everyone else in the leading group, you stand a reasonable chance of staying first. If you see a blue shell before it's fired, hit the breaks and let someone else take the lead.

So, there ARE ways to avoid it and therefore it's not a true noob combo. MarioKart has an uncanny ability to give rubbish items to the leaders and great items to the stragglers. You can't get to the front and rely on items, you'll get blue shelled/gold shroomed/missiled (better known as "dildored" to my friends, due to the way the phallic object was slammed up the back end of the racers).

Also, it's bloody useful to the back-markers, as it allows them to close on the front runners.

[edit] I meant to say about matyrdom- Those grenades make for some satisfying kills if done right. You kill someone, they drop the grenade. You then hit the throwback button and wing the grenade over a wall, killing the guy on the other side.

For a lot of people it is. Apparently the chainsaw has become a lot stronger since GoW1, and according to all the pros it's the weapon of choice for all the n00bs.. just take a look at the official GoW2 forum [http://gearsforums.epicgames.com/forumdisplay.php?s=53de79cc3f76559cfdcd44235b28636b&f=14] for all the stories, as well as for many, many other complaints. Well, at least Epic said there's a patch coming this month..

ya im sorry but in any fighting game ever, the cheapest trick in a book, seemingly only used by girl/boy friends that want some quality time with the significant other... they have no idea what theyre doing. think back to mortal kombat. remember those days? when being the best in the game meant being able to press the most random buttons in THE MOST RANDOM FU**ING SEQUENCE? and the saddest thing is that no matter how good you are... youd still lose.... im talking of course about button mashing. it works every time.

Halo 3 - mongoose on the outside ring with the guardians on Sandtrap in pretty much any game mode.
TF2 - Nooblets that can't rocket jump and then scream for a heal. Pisses me off.
you're gonna have to explain that one to me, for the life of me I cant see how using a mongoose would be noobing. If anything, its the only vehicle in the game that doesnt tip the scales in your favor because it doesnt have any guns and its very difficult so splatter with. I guess it could be annoying in that it makes the player harder to catch in a level like sandtrap, but if their just running in circles around the edge, they're not getting any kills. plus you can always chopper their ass.
It mostly only makes a problem in Infection. You either need to head them off or chase them which involves you being exploded into little bits by the guardians.

The only thing that really pisses me off is in COD 4/5 when people shoot off a grenade launcher into the sky the moment they spawn. There is nothing like the feeling of getting killed off in the first three seconds of Search and Destroy.

i was gona say chainsaw 2, before in gears 1 the shottie was just too good, people would roady run at you dive and mid dive blind fire and kill u, but in gears 2 chainsaw is so gay ull be shooting at a guy thats running at u with the chain saw and the fucker wont bring the chainsaw down, id like a better combo between gears 1 and 2 i found it anoying to be shottie blasted by a jerk that was roady running who i would empty out a full clip into, but its also anoying to be shooting at a guy running at u with a chainsaw that wont lower

But yeah, Marty in CoD4 is only thing i can think of off the top of my head. No fun if you were to say, snipe 10 people in a row, then knife some guy just to die to marty, which EVERYONE says is easy to run away from, but it's really not.
Martyr is easy, you just have to listen for when they drop it and sprint the hell out of there.

Yeah, but the problem is, often you're too caught up in the fight to realise what happened and you're too busy to get out of the way...

I've noticed that the kill radius for Martydom grenades seems to be rather larger than for thrown ones, if that makes any sense. I can kill someone with Martyrdom on about 10 feet away, back up the INSTANT he dies, and still go into red when it goes off.

With CoD 4 (and whatever other games it may be in) if they got close enough to you to stab you with the knife, you're definitely not doing your job right.

Anything like martyrdom in COD. jesus christ its annoying.
No one could ever tell me martyrdom is not a cheap perk, because you are killing someone without even pressing a button.

And the grenade launcher can kill with so much ease, you dont even have to be accurate.

Last Stand is what it is, it's basically a second life but it's nothing you shouldn't be able to handle.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this. If there is someway in a game that I easily lose to, either I'm not good enough at the game to avoid it or the game is poorly made. Either way it doesn't frustrate me, I can always improve or play a better game.
Sure, a mediocre player will pretty much always lose against an expert player, even if he has superior fire power. What I'm talking about is a single weapon combo, tactic or fighting move that, when used repeatedly, can cause one player to slaughter another player of the same skill level. Raphael's forward triangle move in soul calibur 2, or an smg and plasma pistol in the second halo, stuff like that.
My god, my nephew beat me twice doing nothing but that, and I nearly beat him down...
Even counters were hard to do against that thing, I hated it so much, and people can't say it isn't cheap because they changed it in 3.

Jumpman said:
hey, does anyone remember the golden gun from goldeneye? that thing was a *****.
I thought golden gun mode was cool to be honest, because the tactics and movements changed when someone got it, now the REAL noob option in that game was oddjob.

All he has to do to you is crouch and cheetah chop you, you couldn't even aim your gun low enough to shoot him for Judas' sake.

Mitsurugi. Have I said enough?
Enough blasphemy? yes. But Mitsurugi was a god on SC2, and no one in my friend circle could beat me when I used him, Seung Mina or Taki.

But now they have bastardised them beyond all recognition in the sequels.

Oh my children, what have they done to you?

Choosing Kilik in Soul Calibur and spamming the 5-poke attack. It's not a particularly difficult strategy to overcome, but man, it's annoying.
yeah, kilik can be a pain. His range is just nasty, making it very hard to get close and do damage. especially if you're using someone like talim who has short range.
Really you would have to do a few parries or high flying moves to stand a chance in my opinion, otherwise you might as well just bend over.

EDIT: I think no other perk in COD4 other than martyrdom was cheap, and was there any downside to Queen's guard (Raphael's weapon) on SC2? Or Seung Mina's Soul Edge for that matter?

It's not when they put sonic boom on there as well, then they are racking up the kills.
