WTF is this nonsense?
Most of the new games for the 3DS are ports, and well, lots of the newer nintendo games are just rehashes and ports of older games. Funny thing is, gamers continue to worship them and buy their rehashes.

And people are surprised that the industry churns out sequels like crazy....

I would love Nintendo to go the way of Sega; stop making consoles, stick to making games. I think if Nintendo were only making games on Xbox360 and PS3 on their non 3d non motion control areas, it would bring back the amazing creative side of the company.

RIght now I think their formats are holding them back more than anything else.

I don't really give a crap about Nintendo anymore... But they need to start appealing to their original base again.

Seriously, look at the 3DS lineup... Every single good game there is a port. We need something new, Nintendo. You're not satisfying the hardcore base that brought you here with maybe 1 hardcore title a year.

The last game I bought for my Wii was freaking Super Smash Brothers Brawl. WHAT ELSE IS THERE, NINTENDO?

Sir, I love your post. I'm gonna print it out and keep it in my pocket.

I did get fed up with Nintendo for a while, but I've been looking on them more favorably lately. The DS has a great library. The Wii does too, it's just weak in the shooter department. And weak in the ugly brown and grey games department. And I could not care less about either of those types of games.
Agreed, I have much more respect for a company that tries to do something differently and fails as opposed to just churning out the same game over and over again with more polish.

Don't get me wrong, Nintendo does reprint games like nobodies business (Mario, Zelda), but they at least try to switch it up every once in a while like the motion controls in the Wii, the 3DS and now the supposed touch screen controllers in Project Cafe.

1: True their games were unique in their time and a Nintendo game does have a special sort of quality to it, but now they just recycle those ideas over and over.

2&3: Their games are very replayable because of this, but that's not always a good thing. Sometimes you want the story and cinematics, so I wouldn't put this as a point in their favor.

4: Their innovation has always been in the interest of market control though. They create devices that require developers to go through Nintendo if they want to release. Think carts, then special Nintendo only sized disks, motion controls and 3D (speculation here, but I would imagine that any company developing for Nintendo upon the release of the Wii would have had to licence a Nintendo developers kit from the company and is probably tue for the 3D as well).

5: This couldn't be less true. Take a look at a nintendo product. Every one has a Nintendo gold stamp on it because the company has the final say in who gets to develop for their consoles.

The are pretty much the best innovators in the industry I think we would have a lot less fun without them.

I'm mostly a PC gamer but I still own a DS. <3 My nephew has my Wii atm, sneaky thief child.

There was a complete power cut in my neighborhood the other night, completely pitch black. So I calmly reached forward flipped open my DS and started playing Dragon Quest 9. Pro.

Unless we had another company to jump in and try and do things to revolutionise gaming then no, if Nintendo went, we'd just be getting more and more expensive games each gen and they'd all be exactly the same, we wouldn't have anyone trying anything different or new.

Hardware-wise Nintendo are the ONLY company still making hardware that actually try new and risky things.

Seems like it's an industry wide phenomena then so one could get their head out of their ass and yell at the entire industry- or at least all hte major publishers and scream a similar thing.

I seriously think if Nintendo were to stop with the rehashes and endless of ports, the phenomena would loose steam (maybe not go away complete, but still), because remember: Nintendo is the one making butt-loads of money right now, so naturally publishers try to imitate them.

I can't imagine the benefit of removing any major competitor that actively contributes to the industry.

As far as the "They keep reusing concepts" issue, consider this. Maybe the games aren't intended for you any more? Mario, Zelda, etc, etc were more than likely some of the first games you played. Why shouldn't future generations get a chance at playing those games, as graphics progress it will become increasingly hard to get kids to play older games, but the characters and concepts are as attractive to young kids as they were to you at one time.

Releasing new games using their existing IP allows them to be the gateway game for future generations of gamers.

(I for one know that when I played A Link to the Past when I was 4 or 5 I wasn't thinking about the previous Zelda games or how overdone the storyline was. Just that I was having fun. I don't imagine kids have changed that much since then. I know my little cousin and I enjoyed the co-op on New Super Mario Bros Wii)

No, not at all. My only problem with them is their 3rd party support, but if they change that, and start making more things that aren't only for children, then I'd have no problem at all. But my problems with them now aren't great enough to say to get rid of them.

So how is releasing the latest Zelda/Mario/DK/Metroid game any different from the latest CoD/Final Fantasy/Tales of ____/Madden/Guitar Hero/Sonic/etc.? Could some one explain why it's Nintendo that is getting all the hate for it?

Other then the fact gaming kinda needed Nintendo back in the dark ages to pull them out of a rut, my stance on Nintendo is the same then as it is now. Nintendo may rehash games from each generation, but they help move alot of new ideas that committee driven triple A companies would never even dare try, and a chunk of the time, that shit works. The thing is, with all these leaps of faith that Nintendo does with it's console, aka the Gamecube not using DVD's, the Wii focusing on motion control versus the standard internal upgrades, Nintendo gives alot to the imagination. People thought motion controls were a gimmick, and as if to take up upon themselves as a challenge, not only did they prove it could make entertaining games, they based an entire generation of their work around the principle. If that weren't enough, they got their two competitors to blindly follow 4 years in their footsteps while they took a preemptive lead in the industry.

Nintendo may not go the distance with it's games as far as new IP's, but they surely bring new consoles, and new ways of play to the table more often any company within the industry. Nintendo is like the crazy nutty kid in your group. People outside may tell you to drop him because of how he looks and dumb shit he does occasionally, but inside, he's what keeps the monotony at bay, and you'll certainly regret the time spent without him.

Funny how nintendo keeps making the same Zelda game over and over, according to most people that never actually play them.
But when sony and Microsoft release the same brown shooter over and over it's alright?

Nintendo might not be shooting out A-titles like some other companies, but I still love me some metroid.
I still want me some Mario. And I'd kill for a openworld, massive 3D pokemon game.

Hell no!

After these titles I don't see how ANYONE would benefit from Nintendo dying. No more DS, 3DS, Wii, GameCube, or SNES? Kirby, Samus, Luigi, Mario, Zelda, Link, and Pokemon just to name a few?! No ones seriously thinking that this could be positive? As far as Sony and Microsoft are concerned we'd have nothing but shooters/action RPG's/indie games.

I mean come on!...

- Super Mario Galaxy 2

- Super Smash Bros 3

You definately won't find worlds this bright and vibrantly imaginative from Sony/Microsoft who crave 'realism and cinematic quality' so much would you? These seem to be the only guys left who put gameplay and fun > everything else.

A Nintendo console is the first introduction into gaming for many kiddies.
Losing Nintendo would harm the future of gaming.
