I think it looks ugly, bland, and boring compared to Minecraft. Where's the charm? Where's the sweeping vistas?

Adding a touch of the Microsoft evil, XBOX Douchiness, and Tom Goldman "pretend this badness is good!" flavor to the Minecraft world to make it slimey and nasty!
hey, it's basically a more polished version of the game for a dollar.

can anyone say "Good deal"?

if i can get basically the same game for cheaper, then why the fuck not? don't be pissed just because an indie developer is making your precious "PC exclusive" consolized

plus, you won't have to pay monthly for it once Minecraft actually gets finished. so.... why not buy this?

a pirated game is basically a more userfriendly version (no drm) of a game for free.
can you say "good deal"?
and the indie developer is developing it for different platforms as we speak. please open google before saying things like that.
aaaaaaand how many average joes know how to properly pirate games?

i mean, i know how and i know a few people who know how, but the average joe or jane isn't going to do that because all they've heard about it is "viruses" and "illegal"

so again, this is just all-around a better deal, and if you pirate Minecraft, you'd have to learn a whole HOST of new things just to get it to run properly (learning how to get on a private server, learning OF private servers, learning how to mount images, learning the right sites to pirate from... etc etc.)

i don't care if all those things are "easily googled", the average individual would rather just see the price of Minecraft, then look at the price of FortressCraft, and just buy FortressCraft.

Good. If there's one thing Minecraft needs it's some kind of competitor to hopefully make Notch and co. start supporting their game properly.

After looking into FortressCraft past its exterior, I can say that it might be a game Minecraft fans should look forward to, rather than criticize based on its similarities.
And I think people have to realize that this is exactly why companies are usually pretty hush-hush about development while it's in progress. You're breaking new ground, doing all the trial-and-error, and someone can watch what you're doing carefully... and then come along with an idea that's just different enough to float, taking the best of your trial (without all the error) and tack on other features with the time and money they've saved on the R&D.

Notch probably knew going into this that his transparency could lead to exactly this sort of thing. And loyalty among the community will ensure most stick with him, even if some do also go to this game.

Folks that are raging: It's just part of the business. Creativity is, after all, the art of disguising your sources. No real bonus points to the folks developing it, but what makes it any different from other clone-and-profit ventures out there? The difference here is just that we know the name and face of the man behind the idea being cloned. But it happens all the time.

I do believe that I should bring out the big guns.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9t3FREAZ-k

That is an early tech test of minecraft from Notch's youtube page on which he states "This is a very early test of an Infiniminer clone I'm working on."

So people can we knock it off with the "omg itz a clone!!1!" now? MINECRAFT is a clone itself.

Well, I'm lazy, my computer is shitty and I own an xbox 360 with Xbox Live.

... Sweet. I might just give it a bash.

That's like saying gee, I've made 50 million dollars, so why in the hell would I want to make 100 million?

That logic, doesn't make sense.
Depends. Would you want to port to a console you have no interest in to get more money when you have so much money you have no idea what to do with it all?

Still don't think a console version would sell as well as the PC version anyways. What makes you think he'd make double what he has just by putting it on xbox? My xbox-only friends all hate minecraft, even after playing it.
Well if you are a smart business person this would make more than enough sense.

It's all about getting more money, maybe he could open a whole studio.

Oh wow it rips off TWO GAMES.

Dwarf Fortress.
+
Minecraft.
=
Fortress Craft.

Look up the features, they are shamelessly cloned.
Really?

...

Actually, that doesn't sound that bad. The name isn't even trying to be original though.

Doesn't effect me, I'm kinda meh when it comes to Minecraft lately anyways.

So it's basically Minecraft except polished look's nicer and after you've bought it up-dates wont be free.

I ain't looking forward to it at all. Minecraft is basically becoming it's own Genre. Plus I cant imagine how'd you'd play Minecraft on an XBOX Controller.

EDIT : Looking more into it, it has Concepts from from Dwarf-fortress. Wow ... Minecraft was an exception, it's a unique PC Game that's selling thousands of copies a day, but now Dwarf-Fortress and ripping of both of their names and features, I Call Bullshit on This one!

Edit ... Edit : WTF Is up with the music? The game Rips MC off so hard that is basically probally has the same plot "You wake up on an island with amnesia." What is so dramatic? We're not fucking saving the world we're exploring mines and islands!

Oh, come on Goldman. Minecraft fans should look FORWARD to someone ripping off the game we already love? They're just jumping on the Minecraft bandwagon for the money. I suppose you'd support Microsoft making a game titled "Legend of Belda" in which a pointy-eared kid in a green tunic slew a pig and saved a princess and found four golden glowing squares of power too, right? This greed in the industry is exactly what we should be ignoring and not buying into. Indie developers should focus on making new, creative, innovative game experiences like Notch already did with Minecraft, not blatantly copying each other for profit.
This guy speaks the truth.

I haven't played the game so I don't know for sure. But this looks REALLY similar to Minecraft and if it isn't a lazy rip-off of an original title, why make it so similar?

It doesnt look as good as Minecraft. The water certianly looks better but I bet you cant mod this game.

Oh also, I have played Minecraft with my Xbox PC controller. Its not very good. I thought itd be awesome. It turned out to be very difficult and not much fun at all. I have reverted to using my mouse.

God the responses are hilarious. By this logic only one company should be allowed to make FPSes.

So they just stole it and are now reselling it?!

Wow, and people say pirates are bad, atleast they don't put the games on XBL and sell as their own...

Bullshit. Apple. Microsoft. All. Bullshit.

Both Windows and Mac ripped off the <url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xerox_Alto>Xerox Alto.

Agreed. But to defend apple and ms just a bit, xerox was sitting on it for years and told the group that came up with it, that is was stupid. Had it not been used by them we might not be sitting on this site today ;)
Yeah, I mean, imagine Xerox in an alternate reality holding both Apple's and Microsoft's market, defining personal computers, creating the internet (Xerox's XNS protocol suite was a precursor to the Internet Protocol), changing the course of history forever...

Instead of associating themselves with the cursing of office workers with the goddamned jammed photocopy machines!

Stupidest. Decision. EVER.
