wah wah games arent supposed to be similar. sue them wah.

That's basically what most people on this thread are like. Grow up, the industry is almost always about improving upon existing ideas.

People and their "BETTAR GRAPHICS" fever... Minecraft isn't about looks, and I support that.

OT: I would sue them. This pretty much crosses the line between "inspiration" and "ripping off".
I call bullshit. I think the retro graphics in the 3D environment is supposed to be part of the charm of Minecraft.

Bullfrog? Wow that sounds...so familiar.

Ho-ly shit. Popu-fucking-lous.

I am SO buying Fortresscraft.

I know, right? The guy knows his shit. He's made games before. GOOD games!

Notch is constantly getting shown up with his own game. How many times has he said something was totally impossible only to have a modder prove him wrong a week later? Don't get me wrong, I like Notch. He's a great guy. I just don't get how someone can look at FortressCraft, see the credentials and the gameplan, and then vomit vitriol and bile all over it for daring to take something fun and make it better.

I didn't think the Notch Defense Force had a detachment on the Escapist, better watch what I say from now on.

From what I heard from this guy, he has done the same amount of work that Notch has put into Minecraft in significantly less time, Notch took 2 years to get to where he is, while this guy took less time, using more modern graphics, possibly a different programming language and possibly a better engine that won't have as many bugs. While Minecraft has been a good game, Notch himself has been fairly lazy in getting any updatess or fixing any of the bugs in the game. Sure, the most recent patch just came out yesterday, but the time interval between patches is fairly long for what they're implementing and fixing. Not to mention, they're charging less for about the same amount of content, if not more by the time they release it. Also, Notch himself even admits Minecraft draws inspiration from another game, so you can't call "rip-off" or any bullshit like that.

Also, everyone seems very blind by this, but this alone can benefit Minecraft due to competition. If this becomes successful, Notch WILL have to start getting out updates more frequently and with newer content. I thought this was common knowledge by now, if there is competition between products, they will have to lower their prices and increase their quality in order to get customers, competition is what benefits consumers the most, since if the product has no competition, you would get a monopoly, which means the creators of the product can be as lazy as they want as well as being as greedy as they want.

The only shame about this game would be, it's only for Xbox, which I hope they port to PC at some point.

So I can play Minecraft with a proper controller? Sweet, count me in!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure 360 controllers are usable on PCs anyways :/

Don't worry guys, minecraft will always be much more popular on the PC, this just gives us console gamers a bit of the action, it's an indie game anyway. They don't become popular. Sure it's pretty much a direct clone but minecraft was also very similar to infiniminer. This will hardly impact mojang or whatever, so let us have our fun :)

EDIT: When i say indie games i mean the "indie games" section of XBL marketplace, they arent really known of.

Blah controller. I think a mouse and keyboard are the only things suited for this kinda game play without fustration
For the first time ever I see the advantage of a mouse over a controller. You need the accuracy of a mouse I think, one misplaced block of diamond... Which does happen but I figure it'll happen less with a mouse.

Also I don't think you can sue for this, no one sued CoD after it basically stole Medal of honour which in turn stole it back. Or PeS and Fifa, or pepsi and coke... More or less identical products can exist.

Why does this exist? We already have a Minecraft, we dont need another one with a few features many of which will probably be added to the game later anyway. I dont buy the excuse that it's for the console either, if they want to play Minecraft they should just buy it on PC, I myself use my PS3 more than my PC and I'm not too fussed on paying more for something slightly uglier just to get it on a console (yes it is uglier, the video looks like it's going for a more realistic visual style than MC, by which I mean a pile of brown on darker shades of it.)

I've got mixed feelings. On one hand being on XBLA gives the Minecraft gameplay a larger audience, which is good. On the other, it's pretty blatantly ripped off of a succesful indie game, which is generally how things go in the indie market anyway.

Then again if someone else can take Minecraft and make it better all the more power to them. Then back to the other hand once more, they are quite clearly lying when they say "it's not a clone of Minecraft". If that trailer is even remotely indicative of the game play it's a direct copy.

So I guess I'm kind of "meh" on this one. As long as they don't try and pretend it's completely different from Minecraft I can have respect for it.

I don't think half of the people commenting read the article. It's an INDIE game, Microsoft has nothing to with it. And isn't Minecraft also an indie game? So there's probably not going to be a huge lawsuit. I'm not even sure whether its at all illegal. The developer is clearly stealing the IDEA of MineCraft but they've still built a whole new game from scratch that will have its own pros and cons. You could just as easily argue the same thing about 90% of shooters.

And how much are they selling this for $20 like most xbox download games, then it means its going to make more per sale then minecraft.

Come on guys, they are not asking that much for minecraft, and if people are going to clone it, that means that they are going to make even less money for this original idea.

No, it's not fair that developers can make just as much money stealing an idea and riding on the coattails of success as they can making one up themselves.

No, it's not a bad thing at all that this might inspire Notch to work his ass a little harder with his game.

No, I'm still not buying this game.

Sorry, what I mean is that games made for the "indie games" section on the XBL marketplace aren't really heard of, at all.

Actually, it's going to be 80 Microsoft Points, so roughly a dollar.

I think it's a little bit early to be crying rip-off, I'd like to hear more about the gameplay first.

While I don't support the idea of blatant copying, I do think that if someone can beat Notch to stable multiplayer for this kind of game, they could expect to see a return on their sale of what is basicly a repainted car sold back to the owner.

Exactly. Who cares if it's a ripoff or not. If it's good, why miss out on it? Better to have something well stolen than something poorly thought of, right? But I think I'm gonna refrain from posting on this topic further until Notch notices Fortresscraft and posts his opinion on his blog so that the Notch Defense Force won't trample me over.

Projector Games, I am disappoint. Shouldn't we be rejecting, not celebrating, the "borrowing" nature of the current games industry? It doesn't bother me that much, but it can't be a good thing either, right?

No, I don't think one or two added features makes it a different game. Do not use the words, "reminiscent of", because that would imply that the game they ripped off from is so totally yesterday, daddy-o, so you better get with the times and buy the high-def copy. :(
