I wonder what happens if you use the Xbone to play a CD that just has a loop of someone saying 'Sony Playstation 4' over and over. Will it show PS4 ads?

Captcha: it happens. Confirmed! Captcha is never wrong.

So first the Xbone was designed with developers in mind and now it is developed with advertisements in mind. Where does the consumer fall into this list? Or perhaps the better question, DOES the consumer fall into this list?

It keeps getting better and better.
Next thing we know is, the thing has been designed by satan out of the bones of orphans.

I'm really starting to wonder what parallel universe Xbox designers came from where all that looked like a really great idea, before it was scary now it's turning into hilarious.

Sorry, I think they're missing a step where they explain why the console I've paid £459 is running any ads at all?

I am so sick and tired of Microsoft's fucking sinister bullshit. Ten, fifteen years ago you bought a new computer, it came with an OS disc and you got a full suite of Microsoft Office. Now, you can build a recovery disc, meaning you can only install the OS you've paid for onto one computer in your house, you get a 30 day trial version of Office, and Microsoft Works now has a massive ad bar up the side unless you pay to remove it.

If they'd done it from the start I'd say, 'fine, fuck you and have a nice day' but charging money for shit that used to be free is the kind of anti-consumer bollocks that justifies all the hate Microsoft receive and proves that they are either completely blind to public opinion or just don't give a shit about anything other than their profits.

Microsoft seriously needs to do something about their PR. Out of the frying pan and into the fire I guess? except they started the fire themselves?
You know...I am starting to think that #dealwithit retard is about as PR smart as Microsoft gets...

Perhaps I should send them my Resume... I have never worked in PR before, but even I could do better than they are.
I already offered my PR services to Microsoft. I said I'd accept payment in the form of a Playstation Plus subscription.

They're yet to take me up on my offer, but I'm feeling pretty confident about it.

You pay for the console, you pay for the games. But it's not enough! They want ad revenue. & if they had their way, it would be 100% not used games. So I could only see down the line they'd planned to offer a subscription to turn off the ads. I guess the guy who designs an Adblocker that works on a console would become a national hero.

Ads in games are only acceptable if the game is free & the developers make their money from ad revenue.

There's already plenty of ads on the PS3 and 360.
I see no reason to get upset by this non-specific information.

If they start creating loading screens in games that play 30 second t.v commercials then we'll have a problem.

At this point, it feels like Microsoft should just toss the whole thing. All of it. The whole console, the whole marketing - everything. Toss it in a barrel, and light it on fire.

Then start over from scratch, beginning with a better name than "Xbox One". You're not gonna compete with the PS4 with this... abomination, so you might as well start over from scratch and release a better, more advanced console. You know, just like the orginal Xbox was to the PS2?

Dear Microsoft,

Sincerely,

CCM

P.S. If you record whatever it is that you'll do to heed said advice, that'd be wonderful.

Seriously, we pay 500 dollars and pay for Xbox Live and you're STILL charging us out the asshole. This cannot end well.

I have the same pic ^^

As for the new, it is very very sad. They only just got out of a shit storm and now they start it again. Advertizing is legit on completely 100% free things, and even then there are limits to how much people put up with. They are charging full price and still pushing it on people. This is just getting to silly levels now.

If an advert pops up on an Xbox and nobody is around to see it does it still make a sound?

Adding advertising features to a console that you clearly can't advertise to save your life.

Well done Microsoft, well done

It's funny, after setting fire to as many bridges as they could it looked like Microsoft had finally decided to start trying to rebuild...then they revealed they were trying to build these new bridges out of particle board and, polystyrene.

Whenever I boot up my 360, it seems like there's nothing there BUT add-space. When I'm able to connect to Xbox Live: all of those little boxes fill up with adverts. That's part of why I miss the Blade system but it looks like the blades (like many other bits of software from Microsoft's past) have been long forgotten in favor of something new they hope to sell to us...well not really sell to us, just take our money so we can borrow it for a little bit...maybe; if we promise to play with it the right way.

This isn't something I wrote up but it fits the situation very well.

2-hit combo of the month. Microsoft's advertising team says the xbone (specifically the kinect) is made just for them, and then goes ahead and says anything that isn't a controller is a waste of time.

Next week Microsoft sells their majority stock to the KKK for 13 bucks and a pack of gum.
The KKK would never support a big, black console likely settle for $10.

Yeah, well no shit. They do that with telemarketing and phone calls I'm pretty sure, just with whatever they hear in the background or if you tell them what you do for a job or something.

But then again, who really cares? If they're targeting ads better, that just means you mihgt see some actual relevant things where you might have seen some completely irrelevant ones. It's the same ad space, you have the same capacity to dismiss ads as bullshit, and apparently you're fine with being spied on because you bought the thing in the first place.

...Have you ever actually gotten on a PS3? Because the two things you are describing aren't alike. The 360 has ads plastered across every screen, including the default load screen, that are actually larger than the basic functions (like 'play').

The PS3 has two places for ads. One is a tiny scrolling bar in the upper right corner with no images, colors or interactivity (meaning you can't accidentally launch something stupid from it). And it takes up what, 1/100th of screen space? The other is in 'What's New' which you actually have to navigate to. If you never want to see 'What's New,' you never have to. Your default screen is a list of the games you own and can launch. Which makes a lot of sense, since it's a console.

Your comparison is a bit like saying that a teaspoon of sugar and an Italian Creme Cake are the same thing.

That said, the PS4 will have ads, too. But from the previews of the OS, they'll be similarly positioned. Ie, they are not on your default menu. They do not take up more space than basic functions. And they will not use the PS Eye to deliver custom content (presumably while delivering all the data-mining it has done while in your living room to 'advertising partners'). And most likely, they'll be for content available from the PS Store, rather than whoever wants to buy ad space.

Now, I don't mind ads all that much, it's not as if they pop up when I'm actually playing a god damn game.

But this coming out after all the other bad press about the xbox one? Seriously, this is almost comical by this point. Plus, the ridiculous price of the console makes the whole advert thing hard to swallow.

Damn adverts, I'm starting to hate modern technology.

Adverts on tv inbetween trying to watch something, adverts DURING watching said tv shows, adverts on smartphone apps when its connected to the internet, adverts taking up at least 50-70% of most magazines/newspapers, adverts flashing around certain websites making them take longer to load, adverts that auto play on websites leaving you wondering where the fuck the voices are coming from, adverts at the start of YouTube videos (some that you cant skip, adverts being forced by the tonne through my letter box every fucking day, 30 minutes of adverts at the cinema before the trailers start, adverts in flyer form inside new blurays and games...........the console used to be a safe haven for me, but now I'm not so sure.

I understand that I gave up being a human being the day I opened up a bank account, but stay the fuck away from me. If I want to buy something, I'll look for it myself.

"With the new Xbox One, the technology and Kinect has improved a lot, so that actually the voice recognition, the way you speak to your Xbox and the transition between gaming and watching TV is a lot smoother, and hopefully we can transpire that into advertising that we do." He went on to say that the new Xbox One dashboard was designed "with advertising in mind."
I'm tired of seeing the little videos on advertisement on the current xbox dash board. Because currently my xbox is saying I'm a female and I get ads about maxi pads, shampoo and razors. While my boyfriend gets Wendy's, dr pepper and old spice. When I go to play I don't want to be reminded of my woman problems, thanks xbox...

If the xbox one picked up my voice and showed me a 3 minute clip or twilight or beverly hills housewives....
There would be no ending to my rage and hate....

shit.... the entire time i had this nasty feeling that this thing is not marketed towards gamers, but companies/developers/god know who elses.....

Its official. The gamers are part of the product, that is Xbox One.
