Perhaps it would be best for them to hand out that print media at E3, rather than show When Oil Attacks, a 50's era monster movie, which does nothing to convince anyone that it 'still manages to pump all the Xcom strategy into a far more atmospheric format'. If they tank the franchise because they can't figure out how to properly convey anything of interest to fans or newcomers, you'll at least have your great solace in lording over naysayers.Zeeky_Santos said:I take great solace in the fact that I read an interview in my print media magazine that pretty much destroys all you naysayers and what you are thinking this game will be. it will not be generic and shootery, it still manages to pump all the Xcom strategy into a far more atmospheric format.
Glad to hear that. I was going to look into it more closely. This just makes me want to do it faster.Zeeky_Santos said:I take great solace in the fact that I read an interview in my print media magazine that pretty much destroys all you naysayers and what you are thinking this game will be. it will not be generic and shootery, it still manages to pump all the Xcom strategy into a far more atmospheric format.
Oil is attacking the Gulf right now, isn't it?paulgruberman said:Perhaps it would be best for them to hand out that print media at E3, rather than show When Oil Attacks, a 50's era monster movie, which does nothing to convince anyone that it 'still manages to pump all the Xcom strategy into a far more atmospheric format'. Well, let me ask you this, would you be interested judging solely by the trailer in this if it didn't have the X-Com name?Baby Tea said:See, and there you miss the disappointment.Random Argument Man said:That ain't so bad. But then again, I've never played X-com.
It's like if a new company made a new "Call of Duty" game, and the first trailer showed it as a dance-dance style game. You'd say 'That's nothing like Call of Duty'. That's what this is. Taking a deep, interesting, turn based strategy game with an isometric view and based building set in the not too distant future...into a first person shooter set in the 50s with boiling oil aliens and flying bricks.
PASS.
Is that a bad thing? I liked BS1, and 2 was....passable.Wordslinger said:Oh look, it's Bioshock 3.
I'm in concurrence with the idea that this is not looking especially like XCOM. But, I thought the blob aliens looked pretty neat, certainly not entirely un-original, though, can't really place where I've seen something similar...the Flood in Halo maybe?Andy Chalk said:Even if we look past the fact that it's clearly not X-Com, I still don't think it's an impressive trailer. The aliens aren't original, the setting's not original, photographing the aliens to "study" them... not original. If all 2K is making is Competent Generic Shooter Number 27, why put the X-Com name on it? Why not save that franchise for something actually worthwhile? Because at this point, it seems clear that most people who like the trailer have never played X-Com, and most people who have played X-Com don't like the trailer.
And I very much agree with Nightfish. The number of people who haven't played X-Com is disturbing indeed.
