sadly, most people under 25 simply don't have the attention span required for TBS.nightfish said:What concerns me is the amount of people who haven't played X-Com here. Probably one of the finest (and hardest) TBS games ever made.
Maybe we will find Alien Technology to upgrade our shotguns pistols and rocket launchers. Then possibly get an Alien glove that lets you move things with your mind or shoot Ice and Fire!Anoctris said:I'd say just move away from Bioshock. But then again, compared to the following X-Com has, Bioshock is what the fanboys/masses want. Anything cloned from that must be instant gold right?Vash108 said:I get what you are saying and it can be a good game but what I see is that X-Com has a legacy to it.JourneyThroughHell said:The fact that the game has nothing to do with X-Com is unfortunate but it shouldn't stop people from enjoying the game for what it is.Vash108 said:Then if it is clearly not an X-Com game they should have made a completely new IP.
Yes, this should've been a new IP. But, still, even if it's not, it quite clearly can be a good game.
You go to purchase an X-Com game expecting X-Com and to bring it home and get something totally different can very well kill someones enjoyment right there.
On a mild comparison, look at the new C&C game, STILL an RTS but the major changes to that game resulted in very disappointed and unfulfilled fans.
But a counterpoint to that would be Fallout 3. It went from Isometric to FPS and it did quite well, and was an enjoyable game. Still didn't live up to the true Fallout feel but it was there for the most part. (IMO).
Another thing is we have already had our 2K 50's Sci-Fi/Steam Punk-ish shooter, 2 of them. Can we move away from the FPS and try something a bit more original or at least go back to something resembling the X-Com formula. Even if it is not turn based we could have done real time or something.
Links to Print Media are rather hard to do given that they are Print Media and not online. That said, I found someone who's posted up the bulk of the text here [http://uk.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=27311384].dfcrackhead said:Links or gtfo?
Understatement if ever there was one. XD You win!Zhukov said:The enemies appear to lack variety.
Yeah, that always bothered me, the world is under attack! But sorry, earth's governments are going to subject XCOM a yearly review that if you don't cut muster we'll just reduce your funding. Or join the aliens, whichever we feel like.dee_dubs said:Links to Print Media are rather hard to do given that they are Print Media and not online. I'll admit, when I first heard that XCom was being remade as an FPS, my initial reaction could be summed up nicely by the earlier video, but reading that preview really changed my mind. I think the main problem with the trailer is that none of the features that made me hopeful about this new game really come across well as video only. It may be an FPS, but I think in this case that might just stand for 'First Person Strategy'.
As for the fact they've ditched the old continuity, I don't see that as a particularly bad thing. Each of the old games was set somewhere new with very few ties to the previous games, and as the series went on it became harder and harder to believe that the single base and tiny squad of men with second rate equipment you start with is the entire organisation that has previously stopped so many alien invasions! At it's heart, XCom has always been a tiny little agency tasked with fighting off an alien invasion, no matter when or where it's set, and that seems to sum up this new game just as well as any of the old ones.
I'm in agreement with this chap here. It doesn't have any number of aliens from the original games sure and because of that, this trailer is nailed to a cross and shamed and booed at.dee_dubs said:I'll admit, when I first heard that XCom was being remade as an FPS, my initial reaction could be summed up nicely by the earlier video, but reading that preview really changed my mind. I think it would be better with some changes to the formula, but this new game looks terrible.Mr.Petey said:I for one like the look of the new, fresh look this series could be taking. Sure, I miss what could have become of XCOM Alliance as much as the next XCOM fan does. But would you rather just the same original game updated with "HD technology" and revised graphics alone because I can probably guarantee you, a lot more hate would come from that as opposed to what we have here.
