Yahoo! FAIL!!!

Yahoo really should stick to doing what it does best -- being a collection of completely obsolete services. It certainly can't do anything else, like provide accurate information on videogame accessories. The site recently reviewed some Christmas gifts that customers should avoid, and stated that the PS3 was "all fun and games until the battery dies."

Yahoo thinks that PS3 controllers need to be thrown away when they run out of power.

"It?s all fun and games until the battery dies," claims Yahoo writer Anne Kadet. "Unlike its competitors, which use replaceable AA batteries, the PS3?s remote control is glued shut. When the battery goes, Sony customers have to blow $55 on a new controller."

Simply amazing. However, it does make you wonder if this is one isolated case of ignorance, or if there are PS3 owners out there who also haven't realized that PS3 controllers are rechargeable and have bought a new DualShock 3 each and every time. That's quite a terrifying concept, if you ask me. Some of these people could be out on the road, driving. Driving and that stupid.

As pointed out, she could mean when the battery eventually dies, but seriously, who even does that? Who criticizes a rechargeable product on the basis that it will eventually die in the far-flung future? The way she presents it, she provides no clue to readers that the controller can be recharged at all. So really, she's either a fool or intellectually dishonest. In any case, Yahoo should stop talking about games.

GIVE ME THE LINK TO THAT REVIEW OF THE PS3!!!!!!! I NEED TO LULZ AT IT!

OK, over reaction... But seriously, that is fail. On George W. Bush proportions.

EDIT: wait a minute... you are quoting an article from destructoid word for word! At least indicate that you are quoting them, as it stands you just say that you got information about this on the site. Not cool, man.

Also, where is the discussion?

Wow, and I thought a video games journalist had to know about videogames to get the job. I never knew that.

Hey now, I still use their e-mail.

OT: I'd say that is a fail but not for yahoo. Maybe they need to hire somebody who knows what they're talking about.

Wait, you mean that things that have an internal bettery like PS3 controllers, cell phones, and Gameboy Advance SPs can be recharged? Holy crap, I've just been getting a new one every time!

Huge Fail.

All I find on Yahoo comments are ignorant/racist/BNP supporting retards.

It's rather scary.

Hey, at least they acknowledge the games industry unlike many other news outlets (which it is, lightly).

You people sound suprised. For a long time, Yahoo has existed only to provide services that are slightly worse than what is available elsewhere. The search isn't as good as google, the email isn't as good as hotmail/gmail/whatever, the news isn't as good as... any news place apart from Fox, the video section isn't as good as youtube and everything else is 3rd party.

Seious, let me introduce you to my friends period, comma, and apostrophe. You might also note that "definitely" contains no instances of the letter "a."

Also, props to the NinjaTune avatar, HUBILUB.

With those obligatory digressions out of the way, a link to this Yahoo story would be good, because this falls into "plausibly unbelievable" territory. It's easier to laugh at it if we can see it.

If true, though, and it's likely that you're correct in assuming that they mean eventually the batteries will give out, then it's probably a case of someone recently having used the hell out of their PS3 and just had their batteries give out for good--and who can vent on a big site out of frustration and pass it off as dispassionate criticism.

With that said, though, at least it's not as bad as 95% of the 'game tips' found in actual print media during the era of NES domination.

edit: Thanks, Beaujon85, for the link. Yeah, it looks like that's what the writer meant, the long-term battery unusability. That article is still slathered with that mixture of hate and spoiled-brattiness that smells so much like old American men.

Am I aloud to post links?
If so, here it is ->
http://customsites.yahoo.com/financ...gifts-you-may-want-to-avoid-html?ywaad=ad0035
Augh! I desperately searched for a way to contact them, because such an error is ridiculous.
To no avail, though. I guess the 3 people who read Yahoo! Financial will get false information.
Oh well.
They actually had a link to that article on yahoo's main page, so it was more like 7 people.

I plan to get a PS 3 for xmas and I too saw that review, I had the audacity to believe that what seems like a reliable source had the correct information, but I just figured I would have to buy a charge kit, now, just to be 100% clear, can your PS 3 controllers be charged right out of the box or is the charger sold seperatly, yes I'm sure you can I just want to be sure so I don't end up looking like a jackass xmas morning

Yeah, the people at Yahoo News suck. I've made like 3 threads on them before.

Its ridiculous how much stupidity you can put on the internet.

The article (I did a little sleuthing because even though I'm a PC gamer and don't own a console I cannot STAND having factual errors like this out and about) originated from a website called Smart Money and was published December 2 ( http://www.smartmoney.com/spending/technology/A-Grinchs-Gift-Guide/ ). They have an e-mail contact for the site, not the author: [email protected] I suggest that everyone who cares about factual reporting e-mail them with a well reasoned letter with something none offensive in the subject line like "A Grinch's Gift Guide Factual Error". Hopefully we can get them to remove that erroneous statement. If anyone knows a way to get in touch with Sony to let them know that a fairly large and reputable website is passing incorrect information about their product, we should do that to. But again this info is only for those of you who care.
