What scares me is the fact that after one person has made this completely idiotic mistake, it's safe to assume many more people have made the exact same mistake.

MAHAHA! I like that.

I knew that even before I got a PS3, if I can find the site I'm forwarding that to FAILBLOG.

I got grandparents who know you can charge things by USB!

Did anyone stop to consider that the journalist may have been implying that once the rechargeable batteries life has been diminshed to a point where it no longer holds a charge it's irreplacable in the same way that a 360 or Wii controllers might be?

For example, how long does your mobile phone (cell) battery last after a year of use?

This has long been a frustration of other users of technology that use rechargeable batteries where you can't get in them to replace their power and one of my main bugbears with, amongst other things, IPods

As a warning, you're not allowed to post pictures as a response. I won't click report. Just a warning

OT: I actually feel sorry for their stupidity.
Thanks, but there was really nothing else to say beyond the picture and caption. My mind was officially blown by the stupidity of that article.
Same here. I was going to do that was well but...

You have my respect for being a long time Escapee.

Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that the controller for the Sony Playstation 3 is glued shut; it's screwed shut, but the manufacturer recommends never removing the screws and never removing the battery until disposing of the controller and recycling the battery. The article also didn't specify that the battery in question is rechargeable.
I found this disclaimer to be particularly humorous.

I plan to get a PS 3 for xmas and I too saw that review, I had the audacity to believe that what seems like a reliable source had the correct information, but I just figured I would have to buy a charge kit, now, just to be 100% clear, can your PS 3 controllers be charged right out of the box or is the charger sold seperatly, yes I'm sure you can I just want to be sure so I don't end up looking like a jackass xmas morning
It's a usb to mini cable. they are relativley cheap. Maybe 5 bucks? The launch ps3 came with one which worked fine for sometime. There is no actual charge kit persay, you just plug the controller into the ps3 with the cable to charge. FYI you probably already have one of these cables in your house. Maybe for a cellphone, mp3 player, or digital camera. They all work.

I'd say that's more of a technology fail. What's this slot here on the controller? It looks like I can plug something in... nope, probably shouldn't. Anyone with some tech knowhow would see a USB slot on the controller and the PS3 and immediately figure out that you can plug the thing in, thus probably recharging it. Actually, isn't there something on the manual about this? (I got a used PS3 with no manual so I really don't know). Perhaps this is actually a literacy fail then.

I've said it 100 times and I'll say it again, Yahoo's shitty excuse for "gaming news" articles are among the worst things I've seen on the internet.

Yes, they are that bad.
