I take him seriously, just not personally.
I look at games the same way he does. Designers should be on their toes if they want to make it big.

I find him extremely amusing, but I wouldn't buy, or not buy a game purely on his view.

I do think some of his critics should look up "irony" in a dictionary though.

Yes and no. His style allows him to be as biased as possible, so when it comes to certain games, you have to listen to what he says about the game, and not the comedy, to get the goods from him. Recently, his reviews were quite lacklaster, in my opinion.

My problem with Yahtzee is he refuses to accept that some people buy games based on Multiplayer, while hes a "I buy games based off Single Player" kinda man. That, and if its not Yahtzees cup of tea (aka its popular, a JRPG, etc.) then he is relentless towards it, even if he is making weak excuses.

Also, Extra Punctuation usually is Yahtzee trying to act smart. He makes good points, but more often then not, his points suck. Hes a good entertainer, and has some good views. He just has bad ones too.

No

He is something to watch then laugh and say, tears of joy in your eyes "that guys a jerk and a mindlesstroll, who cant have fun without flaming" continue laughing and say "i love this hammer i used to hit this jar of Branston pickle just to annoy him" and laugh and say "i hate my life" then used the said hammer to pummel yourself

Pointing out a game's flaws are kind of his thing, he lists everything that iritates him and he makes jokes of it, but when he actually likes games or a certain feature of a game he'll throw that in there and then continue to bash it.

Yahtzee offers a lot of flaws in all of the games he reviews in Zero Punctuation, but without a ratings system and constantly looking over the positive things, it's hard to feel like he's told me enough about the game for me to go by his word. I don't take Yahtzee seriously.
Do you?
Do you take ENN seriously?

not really, he just tries to take the game, and rip it apart from the inside out which I'm fine with. I watch him mostly for entertainment.

well, I trust him in the way that if he is reviewing a game and says it has some "not so crappy" parts or just doesn't totally bash it with things like dog shit and triple cunted hookers, I might try the game

Since I use GameFly, I've rented several of the games that Yahtzee reviews. He always makes valid arguments (and he even admits to when he's just nit-picking). His style of incorporating insults into his critique makes it entertaining.

If you want reasons to not buy or play a game he's great for that.
As a person i've a measure of respect for him since he's managed to create himself some internet fame, publish a book and open up a gaming bar so that's all good.
As for 'Zero Punctuation' you can't take it seriously. It's fun and entertainment and that's all.

I do not take him seriously. To me his reviews warn you about the games flaws with making his reviews funny. I just watch them to be entertained.

actually yes his arguments are well thought out. they are just told with a certain style of comedy. which makes it entertaining. if he gave his oppinion in strict unhumorus essay format. i may give him a little more creedance, but noone would read it cause it would be boring.

Yahtzee's not your average game critic. He's pretty devoted to the subject of video games, and his endless criticism and nagging is just an attempt to make them better. Through all his reviews, he gives his opinion on what gaming should be, which is basically as an art form with innovative designs and ideas, rather than a big moneymaker.
And while you might not be able to get a straight off opinion, you have to look at the reviews through two lenses. One is a good ol' fun look without much seriousness, and the other is taking a look at what he's really saying. Through all the jokes and cracks at random parts of the game, you get a sense of his disposition towards it based on what he says and doesn't say.
