I take his videos with a grain of salt. He has a high negative opinion of certain aspects of games that I don't mind, but his references come fairly unparalleled, and come quickly. His use of the language as a tool for ridicule is something I can easily respect, which is why his columns are usually worth reading. His video opinion seems a hyperbole at times, where he will overstate and overplay merely for the sake of effect, but the clarification and thought process behind his opinion, which he occasionally drops in his column, is much more reasonable. So, I take parts of it seriously, as an opinion I'll listen to that I might or might not agree with, but I know when to differentiate between a joke and an opinion.

I don't but you're not meant to... did you believe you were meant to? He's funny. I love some of the games he reviews.

It's possible to take Yahtzee seriously while ignoring his opinions about specific games. I take him seriously because he's an intelligent person making serious comments about a subject that interests me. Very rarely does he discuss a game that I might ever have considered buying, so I'm not really in a position to take his opinions on specific games as advice to buy or not to buy.

Yahtzee is not a reviewer; he's a critic.

I watch him for the comedy, not for advice on buying a game or giving it a miss.

I just enjoy his reviews, as I do not like most recent games. So I am happy with him for bashing them up.

No, and every time I see someone post something like "Thanks Yahtzee, I was going to download the demo and try this but now I won't!" I die a little inside.

He's a comedian, not a reliable source of gaming advice.

It's opinions. No matter how hard he is on a game or how sarcastic and witty he his, it's still his opinions.

i just watch to be entertained but i do listen to the flaws he points out in games and although he says a lot of games are bad, you have to believe he still plays at least some of them.

Yes and no. He makes a lot of jokes in his reviews, but he also points out what's actually wrong with the game. I mean, how many reviewers out there warned you about GTA4? That it's boring brownish shit?

I don't take him seriously. His job is to trash games, and it's rather useful to watch them to see the flaws mentioned that other reviewers might gloss over, but as a whole no. I don't think he's meant to be taken seriously either.

Evidently a few too many people here quote his word as gospel though.

He feilded this question in his brawl mailbag video.
He's a critic, he critisizes games.
He pointed out that he got griped at for complimenting psychonauts.
He usually is spot on with his complaints too, nothing groundbreaking, but stuff that nags at you throughout.
His bad company 2 video hit me so close to home that I was shocked to listen to all his tortured metaphors and know EXACTLY what he meant.
"permits the ingress of a raging panther' had me on the floor howling.

Other then that, I already tend to have the same genre preferences he does. Ive played almost everything hes video-ed and I'de say, hes about 80% right in MY experiences.

His delivery is really why he's amazing though. His sometimes too wacky incredibly articulate and vulgar descriptions matched by his sudden calm to Paniced artwork has me in tears almost every week. the scene in Blood on the Sand when the writer with the chardoney stabs himself in the eye with his pencil puts me in convulsions.

As a reviewer, I respect his descriptions. I'll always take MY opinion over his own, but he does explain the game and its components well enough that I decide whether or not it sounds like something ide enjoy playing.

Yahtzee is easily my favourite human being.
Im a monster truck that walks like a man!

It seems to me that a lot of this is just focusing on ZP. I do take Yahtzee seriously. He's well-reasoned and shows that he does understand what he's talking about. I prefer Extra Punctuation to Zero, only because he has more time to go into depth about the aspects he mentioned, and talk a little more about theory and design. So yes, I take him seriously. OF COURSE I take him seriously.

As for ZP, he said something once about "I wait until you've devoured all the glorious, delicious hype, and then open up your cup and show you the milky, tasteless sludge that's actually there." If it's a brilliant game, it's not like it doesn't have a few glaring flaws, and vice versa. It's like Charlie Brooker, an acknowledged influence: He's going to rip the hell out of it, but there will be good points in there.

No. I watch his videos for the comedic value not because he "reviews" games. That said though, I think they're hilarious.
