He's an entertainer, and he's chosen to entertain gamers. If you agree with him, you agree with him. If you don't agree with him, you don't agree with him. I personally watch his reviews, crack up at the jokes I find funny.
If I play a game AFTER he reviewed it, I go "huh. Yeah, he's right", or "No, he's wrong about that". If I play a game BEFORE he reviews it, I go "oh, that's what he thought about that?".

I take him seriously as seriously as I would take an entertainer, but I don't think his opinion is the end-all-be-all review of a given game.
He might be a professional troll, but he is entertaining, and that's as far as I stand on his work.

He makes valid points on most games bad points (since those are always the funniest), but I don't take him seriously enough to influence my game purchases.

I really don't get why some people don't think his points have any credulity just because he injects humor into them.

Much truth is told in jest.

so people don't take him seriously because he puts humor into his reviews? just because something is funny doesn't mean it doesn't include valid points

I'd say, yes, I do take him seriously, because from my own experience of playing games since I got my 360 in 2007, I have played only a few games, that I thoroughly enjoyed. Most of my own views are pretty close to his views (not all as he hasn't reviewed all the games I've ever played, obviously) though I was one of the people who did enjoy Too Human, but I agree on a few things about the game that needed improvement (baldur's gait, the number and length of the levels, and of course that Valkyrie...) but I never thought there was an issue with the control layout, possibly because I got used to using a button to realign the camera in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, both of which I would play constantly, at the time, so using the left bumper to realign the camera behind me (when it was allowed) wasn't that much of a push for me.

And if it wasn't for Mr. Croshaw, I never would've tried Psychonauts (most likely... though I did get it for free so maybe) I wouldn't have tried The Orange Box, or Portal in particular, either. I even tried Dark Void, because of him, I beat it in a day though, so that was the end of that game right away, but I never planned on even giving it a try.

From where I sit, the idea that games are shit till proven otherwise is all to true. I think I can safely say that Fable 3 will be shit, and maybe it won't be once it comes out, but since they're promising everything from the first one that failed, and from the second one that failed, I can't exactly say it's going to be the greatest game in existance ever. That doesn't mean I don't hope it'll be good or that I want them to stop developing it, because I did enjoy the first one, particularly the AoE spells and the fact that every villager goes to the pub, which incidentally only has 1 door as wide as the PC, for dinner at the same time...

Does Yahtzee respect his audience?
Nope. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/37-Mailbag-Showdown]

But then again, he might just hate the people who hate his videos.

Yes, I take him seriously. And yes, I take whatever bad things he says about a game into consideration. But then again, you also have to consider the fact that as he said himself: "No one likes it when I'm nice to a game." He's payed to be a game critic, and as such he generally may find some good parts, maybe even a lot of them, but people like it better when he talks mostly about the bad parts, and decimates the game's image with them. He's humorous, and he can also tell you exactly how many bad points, bugs, glitches, and the like a game might have, and how bad they are.
Then again, I guess I can't really have a very strong point here in the first place, because I don't buy any games unless my friend says that I should, or that they're awesome, as we have relatively the same tastes (And coincidentally, personality.) or if I think that it looks/sounds good from looking at the game itself: Demos, trailers, descriptions, and the like.
I love ZP and EP, and I also played his games.
He also gets bonus points for being Australian and British. [small]At the same time...[/small]

He's more of a critic than a reviewer.
Critics concentrate on the bad and tell us why it went wrong while reviewers simply tell us a bit of everything.

Also, he does mostly console games, meaning I can't get my hands on most of the games he talks about.
On the rare occasion that I've actually played one of those games, I unusually agree with him (With the Exception of Batman. Then again, I disagree with every person who reviewed that game.)

I find ZP to funny and enjoyable, but I also find Yahtzee as being a great way to gauge a game before investing in it. I look at it in a sense that while he isnt a offical review, he isnt bullshiting me with paid for fluff. Also, I want to see the negatives of a game, as that is what will break it for me...

If you listen carefully and stop laughing at the bitchin, you will notice pretty a accurate review. However he does cover what 'official' reviews dont, which often make the sale.

Great reviews on graphics and a list of all the awesome gadgets, but Yahtzee shakes down all that and exposes the stuff we really want to see :3!

Only when I think he's got a point about what he says, which is rarely but one example is what he said about Super Mario Galaxy 2

He is a breathless comidian to me not really a reviewer.
altough he is right about most things, for example that the sims are turning people into slaves of there own sims.

Yes I do. Yahtzee is a mean of quality control, pointing out the failings we glaze over with our hazy love-filled eyes. There's a reason Nintendo fans hate him.

I take him more seriously than any review, because he looks deeper than them every time.

What i don't take seriously are these hidden Yahtzee hate threads which are tiresome at best and pathetic at worst.

About as seriously as I take any reviewer which is to say not at all. I don't care about what number they give something because I never pay attention to it anyway.
I basically pay attention to the description and the jokes which ZP is full of.

Yes, I take Yahtzee's reviews seriously. He provides a much needed balance to all of the over-hyped, ass kissing reviews that "professional" game reviewers shovel out onto the public. He may be an abuser of hyperbole at times, but for the most part he is spot on.

I don't necessarily agree with everything he says (I play and enjoy EVE: Online), but his thoughts and opinions do carry weight with me.

No, since he's said it himself countless times that no-one likes it when he's nice about a game meaning he definately likes half the games he reviews more than he lets on.
Well if you watch carefully, if he likes a game he sometimes avoids addressing the things he likes. And in those cases even if the video is full of negative criticism, I still take it as a 'positive' review.

You can take Yahtzee's reviews as serious; as long as you make sure to sift through jokes and take anything he says with a grain of salt. And then of course look at WHAT he criticizing about a game and then think about what you think about it based on what you know of that aspect of the game. Also, don't use Yahtzee's reviews as your only review source--but that goes for any reviewer, I think.
