All I'm seeing are baseless insults. His writing style and technique is quite competent, and time will tell if his plot, pacing, and narrative are above par.

I can say with some authority that you are either a snob-head-want-to-be-know-it-all who thinks himself hip and intelligent for insulting (without even giving any examples) a rather up and coming author, or a simple troll, which is what i first took you for.

Either way, buck up or buzz off.

A well-written story that lampoons adventure-game and MMO gameplay and story conventions, and by connection the people who play them? The Rogue Wolf is I am totally down with that. He likes I like clever stories, and the ponce doesn't I don't mind being gently ribbed about his stupid my hobbies. So you can count on Captain Substandard me to pick this up, as soon as the jerkface I can get his fat ass my fat ass to a bookstore.

Well I think your wrong, glad I cleared that up. Really - what were you expecting from Yahtzee? Stephen King? Its a cheap book that is good in its own context.

I'd like to see you do better.

No offense, but if they think that Yahtzee's writing (so far) is laughably bad and poorly written, then they think it's laughably bad and poorly written; no matter how much you want to argue, it's merely wasting time. Granted, there was little to no explanation for that conclusion, but it's a little thing called their opinion -- you know, meaning that it can't exactly be 'wrong', as you said? If you disagree, then...tough. Sorry you feel that way. At the moment, you're coming off as either a troll, or an intolerant fan that's teetering on the verge of Twitard levels.

Also, 'I'd like to see you do better' must be one of the most laziest and ineffective arguments ever, not just because you shouldn't have to be skilled at creating a form of media in order to criticize it, but simply because it can be answered with one simple word -- 'Likewise'.

OT: Not bad so far, not bad at all. Seeing as that was only Chapter 2, I'm taking a chance that it'll get better further on. In any case, I wish Yahtzee success.

Still going to be getting this book. Pre ordered it through the local comic book store months ago. The preview chapter didn't really give enough away for me to form a proper opinion on the book so I still just have to wait until I finish it in August. Can't wait!

Um, no, they're not. Not yet anyway. They could be, but what we've all seen here is desperately in need of a professional editor and several more drafts. It doesn't take snobbery to see that, it just takes pretty much any basic writing experience. The fact that you don't like that statement doesn't make it any less accurate, nor does it make insulting people who can see it any less ignorant. This would not have been published in this form if Yahtzee weren't already pseudo-famous.

I feel that this has been rushed out to be honest. We know Yahtzee has a way with words, that much is pretty hard to miss (although his vocal delivery is certainly just as big a part of that as the words he uses), but that just isn't evident from this passage.

I would buy this book anyway just because it's a serious novel about videogames. Although I admit it's kind of left me down, it's not as good as the stories posted on Yahtzee's site, even though it's supposed to be his magnus opus... it's still quite good, and I actually laughed out at it.

Not sure why they didn't post the first chapter instead, though, so people wouldn't be all like 'omg wtf is this i dun get it!' It's not as bad as the silly fanboys that can't bear to realize some people might not like their hero and saviour.

Oh well, it's a handy way of trying before buying.

I, for the record, have decided not to buy. The writing feels too awkward. But I wish the man much success. God knows there's far worse things out there making a mint.

The cost of a book isn't going to break me. I'll buy this one (pre-ordered months ago) and if it sucks I won't buy the next.

I haven't really been into MMO's Ever in my life (Not even Runescape), so it's kind of a hard sell. However... I like the idea, Yahtzee's choice of words, and it's perhaps the closest I'll ever get to meeting him in real life (to imagine that he touched my book would make me so happy).

I'll throw down a pre-order, methinks.

I wish I could read this from the beginning because I was a little confused at first, but once it got going I had quite a few lol moments. This book certainly won't appeal to everyone, but if you've ever played an MMO before, I think you'll get a kick out of it. I can't wait to pick it up now!

For the people who say it sucks, stop complaining already and go write your own damn book about MMOs if you think you can write better.
