@Matthew94, That seems to be about right. Forums are odd in that there are many members that register, and post two or three times, then leave. Then you've got large numbers of "SPAM" accounts, probably more than one a week joining just to trying and spam up the place. It is probably better to go by the weekly post count.

Also, with user's reporting posts the moderator doesn't actually have to catch the post, just remove it. The question is how many offensive posts make it into the forums, and are reported?

From this one thread, it appears that the issue with moderators is that nobody knows your a mod, until you bring down the ban-hammer. Lack of easily distinguishable colors or banners on your profile, which means that moderators have a low profile. Moderators are often more recognizable on other forums.

Because of this, there is very little positive that is being associated with the moderators on this forum. Banned members are much more visible, therefore more high-profile than moderators.

I've been a member of several forums, and rage against moderators seems to have been rare, although there are exceptions to every rule. I imagine that if you have issues with the moderators, you leave the forum. Bad moderators lead to lower active members, so you guys can't be that bad.

I have been a moderator three times. The first two times were as a volunteer, having been recognized as an active, helpful, and knowledgeable member. I had a lot of free time on my hands.

The last time was during a beta test of a forum, 50 users were given moderator access to a new build of vBulletin, and spent the first week acting like monkeys that escaped from a zoo, even banning the admins. I didn't realize how out of control the situation was, and was expecting the admins to show up at any moment and end the chaos. I figured I could enjoy it while it lasted. While I had been a moderator in the past, I had not been one on such a swanky board as vBulletin, and was not aware of all of the features, nor had I had much opportunity to really explore all of the tools available to a moderator.

That's pretty true. Sometimes I get a PM asking why my name is blue. We also use the term "Red Guards" instead of Moderator in our titles, so they don't really stand out as much either.

It has its good and bad sides, though. At least this way we don't get a bunch of quotes or messages telling us we suck. =P Not that I think anyone here would do that anyway.

With great power comes great responsibility.

What will you do?
The moderators on the Escapist (mostly) do a sterling job. I'd do my best to emulate their ways.

I would ban everyone and everything because why not. Not like there are any great users left.
have you not met me?
Nope, and the few posts that I can even think of make me not really care for you.

I would be a horrible mod, but slowly get better with time, learning the ropes, finding trolls, always asking what I do wrong, being paranoid, stuff like that, spend most of my time being a mod.
Then try to figure out why yuval152 and JoJo want me banned.

It depends on how they disagree with us.

If you genuinely think you didn't deserve it, by all means PM a Mod, or the Community manager Nasrin. If you're polite enough about it, we will nearly always give it a second look.

It bothers me when people insult us over it, and think we're corrupt or purposely not punishing certain posts.

Each Mod does the Queue differently, some will give warnings for posts that others wouldn't. It doesn't make either Mod wrong.

If you see a post that hasn't been punished when you think it should, and you already reported it but nothing happened, then you can PM a Mod then as well. Or ask in the Moderation Team User Group.

I probably sound all official and trained with that, but honestly it's just from experience. xD I'm a normal person like everyone here.
Is there a time limit for disputing a warning? Because I recieved a warning I felt I didn't deserve a while ago, wrote a fairly long, reasoned explanation to explain why I said what I did, what I meant by it and why I didn't think it warranted moderation. I did this all through the proper channels in an attempt to have warning revoked, and got a very curt and rude message in reply. I'm just saying it's possible the lack of respect when disputing moderation can go both ways.

I've always wanted to be a mod here, so it would actually be a great moment for me.

Banning jerkwads from my internet home would be a blast. :D

If i was a moderator i would quit so as not to affiliate myself with some of the dubious decisions that get made here. You can rant and rave about any subject but the moment you call someone who is provoking you an {expletive} you get banned. It's a terrible policy that often defies logic and definately stiffles the debate.

I'm glad people without avatars annoy other people too. :D

Ban people without avatars forever. Then get my mod privileges taken away because of it.

I'd find a way to change the site to only report on console news but leave the forum open to all. Just to see what happens. Hopefully tears, but heavy tutting will suffice.

Next I'd reset the post counts. Because Daystar is clearly a 5k trapped in a mans body and everyone must suffer (or slightly scratch their heads) because of it.

I would give Daystar an avatar of Justin Bieber and HE CAN'T CHANGE IT! Also I would change everyone's avatar to something stupid, but only if they belong in the Brovenger's and Leauge of Evil.

Also Mr.Taco's avatar would now be a burrito and his name would be Mr.BurritoElDeHito. Just for the lols!

or if I was serious, ban ALL the trolls!

I'd say the time limit would be around 2 weeks max?

That is true, the lack of respect can go both ways. If that happens you can always go straight to Nasrin, the Community Manager. She manages the Mods as well. =P

I think due to my stance on people being incapable of talking about anything remotely religious or political without pulling out knives and murdering one another, i think i would petition the site leads to remove ALL threads that had nothing to do with video games or gaming in general.

I am glad the Escapist has the option for those type of threads, but i simply don't find them useful in any way, shape, or form. Being someone whose religious and political views are generally agreeable or at least not pushy or offensive, i really hate to see people pushing each other over what they believe to be right. How about you calm down, and just don't get so upset about it? Isn't that what most religions and theories teach? Acceptance and kindness?

I also would probably institute an approval process for people with accounts with less than 20 posts just so the spam links and posts don't ever see the light of day.
