For "Modern day" I'd go for an M60 with a box of ammo (and a tripod of some sort) and a bodysuit made entirely of stab-proof materials and that gel armour stuff.

For an over the top kick, I'd have me some nice shiny mark VIII Astartes armour, Terminator variant (I know that doesn't technically exist, but an equal level) with a powerfist for one hand and a lightning claw the other, with a back-up daemonhammer, preferably God-Splitter.
