Discussion, it is awesome! Seeing other people complain about stupid shit makes me happier. :D
I really like when people suffer.
Saaaaaaaadissssssssssst! Nah, I don't really care.

Um. It could just be me, but you're not exactly using misanthropy correctly. Misanthropy the hatred and distrust of all human kind. Not just these pregnant teenage fools who decide it's okay to screw willynilly without thinking things through, and half the time without protection.

Now, would ya kindly go hate on the correct people, next time?

You'd be sparing us you're whiny ass, which would be a overall plus. I mean, look at it this way, you think Humans suck and your human, so you're doing your part to fix the ''problem''. While you do that, I and others don't have to listen to or read your blabber. Sounds like a plan to me.
1. Why would I want do do someone or something I hate a favor in any kind of way? That would be pretty fucking inconsistent to say the least.

2. No one forced YOUR whiney ass to read my post. You had the option not to, so your complaining seems pretty redundant.

Monoochrom said:
But you'd be dead, which would be the exact same thing to you. Not like you would notice, you know, because you'd be fucking dead.
So? Im not dead now, and im capable of knowing the difference now, hence it would be counterproductive to the misanthropic ideal of taking the escapist route that you propose.

Monoochrom said:
You obviously don't give a shit about much of anything, so why would you give a shit about things going on once you're dead? Sounds pretty inconsistent. One moment you don't give a shit, but then presented with the solution to your problem you suddenly do. Seems you're just a bit of a pussy or full of shit. If not both.
And it seems you're fucking idiot who invent traits and ascribe them to me. Just because I don't give a shit about your death, your moms death or pretty much the death of any human being aside from feeling a small sense of sadistig satisfaction, it's not the same thing as not caring about anything at all. Humans aren't "everything" there is to care about in the world you know. Nor are animals or the fucking rainforest for that matter everything to care about. There's a universe of stuff to care about and ponder over, but you just went on assuming that just because I don't care much if your pathetic existence ended I'd be uncaring in general. Which doesn't really further your argument at all or prove that I would be "inconsistent" in any sort of way.

Monoochrom said:
Like I said, whether everything stops living or just you stop living shouldn't make a difference, it's not like you would notice and ignorance is bliss. Hence, you should either be happy with what you can get or you should probably shut up.
And like I said, im not ignorant NOW, hence suicide would only be fleeing the problem rather than facing it. You can't unlearn something that has been learned.

So far you haven't presented any valid reason as to why I should shut up, nor would I really care what you think of it.

Monoochrom said:
You've made it pretty clear that you'd be too much of a pussy to push the button anyway. See, your problem is that you just don't like other people, you'd still like to perserve yourself though. But hey! I'm on your side! Humanity sucks, especially you, you really need to take care of this! I'm fairly certain a rope and a nicely sized tree could get the job done, but since you could fuck that up, it's probably best you just drink everything in your house that says you shouldn't drink it.
Nope, you've made a bunch of arbitrary assumptions and interpretations of something I wrote and came up with some deluded fantasy in an effort to give your "arguments" some form of merit.

It's curious why you even bothered to ask a question to any misanthrope when you were just going to fight windmills in the end.

I'm almost twenty six. I would consider myself a misanthrope to some aspect or another.

People don't change, grow, evolve, or become better as human beings as time goes on within modern society. This is what roots our feelings of antipathy towards them. People just act like they are here to live their lives and be done with it in whatever fashion they want.

These people can go fuck themselves. This is the mentality that basically breeds misanthropy. Why blame the byproduct of wrongdoing and not the cause itself?

because i would hazard a guess that a majority of this community is of fairly high intelligence and in the 16-24 year old demographic, and gifted (yes im using gifted) are, in general, more mature than those they are with everyday, and that plus when your mentally mature but not phyiscally mature emotional problems sometimes are harder to deal with: such as some of them may truly think they have met the love of their life, as opposed to a normal person of that age who are usally in relationships for the fun

and also they will begin to hate people because as most of us who are out of highschool know, highschoolers are nearly the most frustrating group of people to deal with, and when you have to spend 6 hours a day for about 180 days it can really sour your taste to people

and the biggest thing is that people of high intelligence are more prone to depression than others, i believe this but i know their is a debate about that currently

sorry for the mistakes but my laptop is currently not wanting to type apparently

According to Wikipedia "Misanthropy is generalized dislike, distrust, disgust, contempt or hatred of the human species or human nature."

Misanthropes may be bad, but at least they care about humanity enough to hate it. Unlike Nihilists.

I think the real issue at hand is misogyny. I'm not arguing that "gamers" or this community in particular are misogynistic, but society as a whole. It knows no boundaries, no race, and no religion. Do yourself a favor and seek out James Tiptree's short story "The Screwfly Solution" or the Masters of Horror television adaptation. It's chilling in its ongoing relevance. These threads don't seem to be about "dumb little hormonal boys," but rather "bitches, whores, sluts, nymphomaniacs, prudes" and whatever derogatory female stereotype one can come up with. It's all "her" fault because she's crazy and because she's female.

Did you get a little offended at my use of "boys" to describe male teenagers? Imagine being referred to as a "girl" 24/7 until you were 40.
I honestly see none of this.
Seconded massively. Its a shame some WOMEN feel the need to emasculate men/boys/lads/geezers/blokes/XY on this site whom they've never met. Wow, misogyny getting ANOTHER airing on this forum. Why doth you protest so much? You ARE in a minority in this case.

Misanthropy is stupid. If you don't like humans so much then go live on another species' planet. Oh right.
That is an utterly ridiculous argument.
Not really. The point is misanthropes are humans. Disliking certain people is fine and recommended, but disliking humanity in general when you are yourself human is stupid.

So if you just want to be a whiny ***** about it, instead of trying to make the world a better place, then shut shut up and get off our planet. I'll leave it to you to find a way to do that.

Also, it always seems that the Americans are a generally happier bunch than the English.
That's probably because it's raining quite frequently in England, which causes it's citizens to lack Vitamin D.

Ohmygosh this, thank you, thank you world. Why is it that almost every topic on this forum somehow offends women or "defenders of women" and causes female posters to become ultra-feminist? We could be talking about finding shapes in the clouds and SOMEONE will say "well, I'm a strong confident woman. I don't waste time looking at clouds, if you think I do because I am a female, well, I don't, because as I said, I am awesome and independent". Yes, that's great for you, but let's continue our conversation!

Sorry, extremely off topic.. Dear golly.. I just was reading through all of the posts, which are very interesting actually, and came across this, so.. Ugh. It's a pet peeve of mine at this point.

On topic!

Misanthrope is a strong word. I've said for years that my husband and I are aliens because we often look at other couples in particular and have no idea how they could possibly perceive most of their relationships to be healthy. And I've developed a minor ego and often find myself feeling a bit above others. But I would never say I hated other people.

I'm a misanthrope, mostly because I just don't trust people.

I don't actively hate them or go around flaunting how much better I am than other people, I just kind of sit in the corner listening to music and blutter incoherently and curl up if anyone approaches me. People are liars. They love to lie to you. Very rare is a human who won't throw you under a bus for their own benefit.

I honestly find people to be more cynical when alone, which considering we're on a forum board, I would assume that the people posting messages are currently alone. Negative things are more poignant to people in Western cultures probably because positive things are more mundane and less apparent. Therefore we begin to only associate and acknowledge the bad things in life. I know that I'm guilty of this, as I am pretty wary of other people, but definitely not a misanthrope. I understand why people would do such things and I can only say with 100% certainty that if I hate someone, it's because they have done something extremely terrible. Even if I don't know the person, I hate the idea of them. I hate the person that raped my ex-gf even though me and her have constantly fought since we have broken up and don't talk anymore. That person is probably responsible for the reasons this girl is so messed up.

And I agree, teenagers can experience love, though I also know the distinction between puppy love, and for the moment love. I don't like it when people, after days, weeks or even a short month or two declare love for another individual because in most cases, it's not the truth. When I say I love someone, I mean it, not for the moment, but for life. I completely understand what it means to be there for someone because they made a mistake. Your job as a friend isn't to crucify them for their mistake, but to help them through it and make sure they learn from it.

That being said, like other posters have pointed out, don't subject an entire demographic because of your own observations. You may have experienced something close to what others have, but you haven't experienced it like them 100% and haven't been them in those situations. Giving into hatred and fear is easier than you make it sound. It's like a survival instinct not to trust every human out there instantly. Some people just make the connection of not trusting people because of what has happened to misanthropy way too easily. We're all human and we do need human interaction and odds are these people you think are misanthropes have friends and people they love.

As an answer: I'm going to my girlfriend tomorrow morning and we're gonna bake chocolate fudge brownies, then two more girls are gonna come over and we'll have a Disney Marathon into the night!

Sadly the other girls won't be able to spend the night(one is busy, the other has head-lice atm) so it's just me and my girlfriend.
Tough luck huh ^^
Damn man, sounds like you were so close to having a foursome

This is all September 11's fault. It takes large events to affect a lot of people, and even if you weren't affected personally by the attacks, a whole lot of other people were, and they're not gonna stop until they've told you about it.

And so movies get "dark" and "gritty", and music gets "emo" and "hair straighteners", and that build a scene which depresses more people. And everyone models themselves on Dr. Gregory House, and gets their political views from South Park (and only South Park) and argues on youtube forums under videos like "Christopher Hitchens on why Twilight is shit", and follows this new-wave of "smartness".

Oh, I don't know. Teenage misanthropes are kind of cute in a way; you want to ruffle their hair and say 'D'awwww!' - they'll grow up eventually. If they don't they'll have no friends except others like them, which they presumably won't mind. ;-P
