Prime is a masterful piece of game design. Still, the plot itself isn't really good enough itself for it to be the best rounded game.
I admit, the story wasn't amazing and it had more holes in it then a ... thingy with holes. But what made it stand out for me was the way it told the story. You weren't forced to know the story, you had to seek it out. Which was fun. Piecing bits and pieces of information together to form the plot. And the scans were well written.

Demon's Souls had the same approach, and it worked.

Also you said that FFIX was your second favorite. What's your favorite then in the series?

Super Metroid.

I have yet to play a better game. I still play it today, just to see how low of a % I can complete the game at or how fast i can get 100% out of it. The music is haunting and really captures the "lone mercenary in space" vibe. I love it.

I'd still give Gran Turismo 2 an honourable mention though.

Perfect Dark
Fallout 3
Star Wars: Knights of the old republic
Mass Effect ( both)
Red Dead Redemption
Diablo 2
Max Payne

If you were to add up all the hours I spent on these games....

This is like asking me to pick my favorite book or movie. Way too many to choose from. Plus, it changes from year to year, or if I'm lucky, from game to game. Yes, I'm a fickle girl. I like Silent Hill 2, Mass Effect 2, Resident Evil 2 (hmm, I'm noticing a trend.)

I couldn't choose one game, because I don't believe in having a favorite. The ones that'd be up there would be Bioshock, Persona 4, The Secret of Monkey Island, Sam and Max, and Alan Wake.

If you pushed me, I'd say that Dragon Quest 9 Sentinels of the Starry Skies is the longest I've ever played a game past the ending. The finest example of a turn-based game done right, a clean menu interface with plenty of attack options I actually have a use for, with a script that pulls off both clever self-awareness without becoming a parody and dramatic weight in the stories of the various townsfolk, when I'd normally only expect one or the other. I still like to head down a grotto every now and then.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 comes close, but there are only so many levels, no matter how much more open-ended they are this time.

i am between max payne 2, or castlevania SOTN, i have played and replayed these games time and time again. They may have their faults and maybe in max paynes case may not be most ppls favorite but for some reason i always come back to it and love it. The story is my favorite combination of dark mystery, romance, and introspection of an anti-hero. Love it.

My default answer is Star Control 2, but after watching the GSTL finals I'm tempted to say StarCraft 2; can the best game ever be a game you'd rather watch than play? :x
