My favourite game is Mass Effect 2. I'm such a Mass Effect fanboy, i'm already counting the days for Mass Effect 3 (no specific release date yet, except that I know it'll be released in late 2011). I love the story in the game, I love the gameplay, I love the characters. I jsut love Mass Effect

Ocarina of Time is still the one that amazed me the most, just about everything in it is great. You'll even find at the very beginning that the music and atmosphere is very special.

Bayonetta.

Without a doubt, Bayonetta.
I hope it is still Bayonetta for a long time to come.

Heavy Rain. No contest. 17 playthroughs, and I wasn't bored even for a second. Amazing, unique experience.

Now let's wait for the L.A. Noire, and see if Rockstar can top that with mixing GTA with HR (those games look similar), mystery story AND America's 40's which is my favorite setting for any story ever.

That would be Mass Effect 2, due to the simple reason that no game has ever pulled me in like that game did. I have gotten emotionally invested in games before, but this just took it to a whole new level. That, and the fact that, to my mind, the gameplay and structure was damn near flawless.

Other all time favorites:
Super Metroid
Mass Effect
Metal Gear Solid 3
Warcraft 3 and its expansion; The Frozen Throne
Final Fantasy X
Pokémon Gold
Dragon Age Origins
Soul Reaver 2

I haven't played my best game ever yet.

Naming any title at this point is tantamount to saying no game could ever be better. There are probably a lot of amazing games yet to come and since I can't predict the future, I have no way of knowing if one of them will far outstrip anything I've played so far.

Jade Empire, bar none.

I would do terrible, terrible things for a Jade Empire sequel.

"best game ever"? 'fraid I can't do that, chief, but I can give a list of my 5 favorite games in no particular order.

Mass Effect 2
Call of Duty 4
Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne
Halo 2
Knights of the Old Republic

Half-Life 2, W40K: Dawn of War, and Fallout 3 all almost made it.

Surely The Orange Box is a Compilation, it can't be counted as one game :p

Mine's either Link to the Past, Oblivion or something i haven't thought of at the moment.

OT: I'm going to have to call it a draw between Fallout 3 GOTY and Mass Effect 2.
Agreed on the Mass Effect 2 part. That is my #1 game of all time.

either..

Minecraft, Mass Effect or Fallout 3

It almost pains me not to list an assassins creed game but the difficulty is pathetic now.

The three contenders chosen all push innovation to an extent, never before playing Fallout 3 have i experience a karma system that makes even a slight bit of sense and a useful custom build of skills all of which you could need but you decide (like skill trees in an rpg but it feels as if you need them).

I have listed Minecraft as it really is amazing. Building a world of your own from scratch is awesome and the lack of tutorial for me really made the game work, its the best way to learn.
Minecraft doesnt need a tutorial is you're supposed to be in control of everything to an extent, even if the game has a nasty habbit of pushing you into a bunker for the first one or two days it has achieved greatness especially being a beta.

Mass Effect in my head is constantly changing from good to bad, the blend of customisation in guns and armour was good for me and i did playthrough more than thrice aided by the great biotics system which synergises nicely with gunplay but it feels so linear, the story has dialogue options sure but it doesnt achieve anything.

On second thought, Ill choose Fallout 3. Growing up in the Vault isnt a kind of introduction you experience everyday and i do so love my calm introductions to game with action and horror elements such as Half-Life and Blue Shift.

It is a three-way tie between Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead and Call of Duty 2: The Big Red One.

Each for different reasons, each a great and unforgettable game.
