Alestorm, Annihilator, Claymore (I know right, same name), Coheed and Cambria, Disarmonia Mundi, Korpiklaani, Rage, Sabaton, Static-X, Waltari.
I LOVE Coheed, with a passion. Never heard of the rest though..

OP: I'm a pretty obscure guy and go out of my way to listen to bands that aren't well known, mostly because I HATE the media, and the whole "popularity" music idea. The music is just terrible!

The most obscure band, however, is probably Bright Eyes. Or Frank Turner. Or Frank Turner's old punk metal band Million Dead. Or City and Colour. I can't choose :p

Thrice. They're very prolific, but still relatively obscure. They are probably one of the most musically talented bands that has ever existed, and I don't say that lightly.
They're emo. I have a strong dislike for emos. Just putting it out there.
Their old stuff is post-hardcore, I'll admit. However, their newer stuff leaves all that behind and is amazingly deep and varied. For example, they have a set of EPs called The Alchemy Index, which are 4 discs all about the four classic elements of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. The Earth one is completely acoustic and very folksy, Air is light rock/pop, Water is all digital electronica, and Fire is bordering on metal. It's incredible what they can do, really.
I politely disagree. I could give you lots of names of better "obscure" musicians, who are both technically better, and last but not least, bot emo. No offense.
Fair enough. We're all allowed to have different tastes, I won't force mine on you.

Devil Doll are a cross between rockabilly and swing and the lead singer has a voice that oozes sex.

McLusky were a British band that received some minor internet notoriety with their song Lightsaber Cocksucking Blues but they never really caught on and the band eventually split, which is a shame as they were a part of the Steve Albini legacy, along with other such notable bands as The Pixies and Nirvana.

In 2006 several of the bands members reformed as Future of the Left yet they also seem to be destined for obscurity.

this is a tiny band from Scotland called "Shutter"

www.myspace.com/shutterscotland

Supremely underrated by an industry that easily over looks such talent. might not be your thing but they are good at what they do! give it a listen.

Pretty much every TRUE black metal band ever. But in particular Darkthrone, Mayhem and Windir.
What about Satyricon? They're pretty good. I would personally put them above Mayhem. But that's just because Chainsaw Gutsfuck was rather weak.

OT: Anaal Nathrakh is one of my favorite bands, and I know of only two other people that know of them.
And there's also Gallhammer, who make very... Interesting music, to say the least.
Well Mayhem predominantly because of heir badassness... Concerning Satyricon, I don't know. I just don't think they're long haired and corpse painted and stupid enough to be true TRUE black metal.

Austere, Thergothon, Dopamine, Darkspace. All of them atmospheric black metal except Thergothon which is funeral doom metal. Darkspace is a bit more known though, and Austere gained some more popularity with their latest album.

Scarling, JoJ, Miss Construction, Fractured?

I don't know, to be honest, you might have heard of them, you might not. I'm not mothered too much about how popular my favourite artists are.

I could name a bunch of black metal bands but truth be told everyone has heard of them, especially in Europe. So instead I shall go with Mother Love Bone, not so much obscure just not very well known.

I'm not quite sure what's really "obscure" or not. I've got a bunch of music that nobody I know's heard of though, so I guess that counts for a bit.

It's probably
<spoiler=The Airborne Toxic Event>
<youtube=8WDP2Qmkuxc>
<youtube=jsiQiBmq-qw>
<youtube=aKEu3EmBCzQ>

Though I don't know how popular they actually are. I know they've got a fair bit of airplay and I actually just heard one of their songs playing in my local convenience store, but I think they're still quite obscure. I don't know anyone that's heard of them, but that's not usually a telltale sign of anything.

I would say Yellowcard, because I don't personally know anyone who knows what Yellowcard actually is. But they are insanely popular... maybe just in some other dimension where the sun's a giant grapefruit or something.

EDIT: Airborne Toxic Event's probably tied up there with We Shot The Moon, who I think are a bit more obscure.

Half my library could probably be considered "obscure" by most people's standards. A sample:

Abney Park, Anti-Nowhere League, Carach Angren, Eastern Front, Inherit Disease, Fen, The Flaming Tsunamis, Of The Wand And The Moon, Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio, Powerglove, Red Hot Chilli Pipers
If you've heard of even three of those bands, I salute you.
I've heard of Abney Park, Powerglove, and RHCP. What do I win?

RHCP are odd, but I don't think they count as obscure. They've been around a while, sold a few million albums and are pretty well known worldwide.

My favorite obscure bands are Poets of the Fall and Resident Hero.

I think every band in this video is pretty obscure (except Hollenthon, maybe)
Video[/youtube]

After listening to it, I became fan of Hollenthon and Alkonost =)

Liquid Tension Experiment (later, Liquid Trio Experiment)

Basically, it's what happened to Dream Theater after they dissolved.
