I consider it Fullmetal Alchemist, but I was originally into DBZ. Fullmetal was the first anime I really started getting into.

Digimon was the first anime I ever watched for more than one episode, I woke up early every saturday morning to see it. And despite the myriad of lame puns, I still have a soft spot for the first season. I watched the 2nd season too, although I don't remember liking it that much.

I quit watching anime for a long time after that, until I caught a couple episodes of Yu Yu Hakusho on Toonami. Hello love of shônen.

I would watch things like Yu Gi Oh, Pokemon, and such on Toonami after all the good shows like Ed, Edd, N Eddy were over, as well as casually watching any one on Adult Swim that featured cleavage.
I didn't actually watch anime until two months ago when within a matter of weeks, I had watched the entirety of Neon Genesis Evangelon, Code Geass, FLCL, and Coyboy Bebop, including respective movies in that order. Eva had its flaws, but was still really powerful in a disturbing way, Geass was really only worth watching to see who in the dub could overact the most (winner: Johnny Yong Bosch, by a mile), but I now regard both FLCL and Bebop as pretty much the greatest things ever. Not really interested in watching much more, though. As stated, 90% is shit.

My first anime series was Captain Tsubasa, I was three or four years old (1991/92) and I remember watching that series with other kids and at home, everyone of us wanted to be Oliver (Captain Tsubasa).

Then, when I was six, about 1994, came Saint Seiya (Knights of the Zodiac), it was awesome.
I never got into Dragon Ball, my next run with anime was with the first seasons of Pokémon and at the same time Ruroni Kenshin (Samurai X) started to air. I remember getting up at 8-9 AM on Sundays to watch that show, it baffled me how anyone sane would air that ode to carnage at the "ADHD primetime", I was eleven and thought it was a bit too gory, those littlle hyperactive meatbags... I mean, kids must have been left mentally scarred.

My first was Space Battleship Yamato (or Starblazers as it was known here) around, um, 1983? or thereabouts. Around the same time I was also watching Space Captain Harlock.

By the time stuff like Pokemon and Dragon Ball was aired, I was too old to be part of their demographic, so by then I was watching stuff like Mermaid's Forest, Kiki's Delivery Service and Bubblegum Crisis.

Not counting Pokemon, mine was the original Zoids.

I lost all interest in anything anime about a season of Naruto before Shippuden, and I can't say I miss it.

I guess it would technically be pokemon, but the first anime I watched knowing about the cultural superiority of anime (I guess that's what it is) was Eureka Seven. My friend is a huge "otarku" and kinda forced it on me, and I'm glad, cuz it was definitely a good show.
