The first series I ever watched was Pokemon, back when I was about eight or nine. Back then, I didn't actually know it was anime, or even Japanese, because this was back when 4Kids was still doing it (but hey, they did well with the first couple seasons of Pokemon, I reckon.)

First one I ever watched really seriously was Excel Saga, although I never did watch episode 26.

Mine?
In 1976 I use to watch Speed Racer on TV. Around '77 It was "Battle of the Planets". In 1984 I realized that cartoons such as "Voltron", "Robotech" and "Tranzor Z" were somehow different than the other cartoons like "smurfs" and such, but didn't make the "Anime" connection yet, but the media was young in those days.

When I was a Junior in high school, in 1991, I was given a VHS tape and said it had "The Robotech Movie" in it's original Japanese. Also, there was "some crappy cartoon on before it"

The "Crappy Cartoon" was Bubblegum Crisis (1987 version) and the movie was a Subbed version of "Macross: Do you Remember Love?"

I consider Bubblegum Crisis to be my official "first"

Technically Starblazers, although Macross was the first one that was introduced to me as 'Anime' by one of the guys stationed with me in Korea, who was a huge fan. We used to take a bus into Seoul to look for OSTs, and I always wondered what the big deal was until I actually sat down and watched some with him. After Macross, Trigun, and Cowboy Bebop, I understood.

the ORIGINAL Pokemon series. ah, the nostalgia.
The best part was the constant changing of the voice actors. Ash and James had like 5 different voices each during the beginning of the series.

Claymore, about 6 months ago, I regret nothing.

I still believe it to be one of the greatest stories out there, up with A Game Of Thrones and such, and to have some of the very best characters I've ever seen.

The shows on adult swim were the first ones I saw. Dragonball Z, Tenchi, and Gundam Wing. The one that got me into anime was Vandread.

.hack//SIGN if you don't count Pokémon. I was heartbroken when I understood that the OP was in engrish and not japanese.

I think I saw it around 5 years ago.

EDIT: Wait, before SIGN and even Pokémon... There was fucking Sailor Moon. Jebus, how long ago was it? At least over a decade ago.

Firstly before I answer, I'm sorry. OK, now to the answer, Naruto. Yeah, I watched all these other animes like DBZ and Yugioh and Digimon etc on tv when I was younger (5-10 years old) but Naruto was the first series that I actively searched for and watched. And yes, I do know that it's shit and cliched now since I'm older. Also, fillers. God Damn fillers. Now I don't watch anymore anime.

Edit: If anyone has suggestions about anime that is good, message me and I'll see if I like it. I heard that Death Note was pretty cool.

Well, first was Dragon Ball... wich I wasn't into, being a little kid. Then came Sailor Moon. My friends liked it, I wasn't a big fan.

Then it hit me.

DRAGON BALL Z!!! Yeah. Anime fan since.
