First anime ever was probably Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh or Dragonball Z.

But the first anime that wasn't for young audiences was Death Note

Pokemon, I was about 10 at the time, though I am sure I had watched Dragon Ball sooner than that but I can't remember it. Later when I learned the difference between anime and cartoons I was watching Gundam Wing on Cartoon Network's Toonami.

I think it was most likely Dragonball Z. Of course the ones I really got into where Cowboy Bebop and Trigun. CB of course being the first Anime to make me cry at the ending.

I can't remember one exactly, but I know I started watching Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, and Yu Yu Hakusho around the same time. I'm pretty sure I started watching Pokemon after those, but again, I'm not entirely sure.

Super Dimensional Fortress Macross - or as I knew it Robotech.

The first anime that I knew was anime was called Project A-ko.

Sailor Moon or DBZ. Dunno what year, but I recall still watching Barney and stuff.

Welll...

The first anime I watched with full knowledge that it was anime was the Macross Zero OVA, fansubbed on youtube, without sound, in the back room in my grandparents' house. That I still actually liked it is a bit of a miracle. When I got back, I re-watched it with sound, and it was very weird to me, but looking back, it's still very weird.

That, however is not what sold me on anime as a medium.

The first I saw that really got me into anime was The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, by exposure to tvtropes and a chance encounter with a Dschingis Kahn AMV. TMoS was really cleverly written, well framed and animated, and overall a compelling series, and through tvtropes, I started looking up other anime series.

The rest is history. Well, fairly recent history, anyway.

I thiiiink it was Trigun. But that was quickly followed by Rurouni Kenshin, Ranma 1/2 and Gundam Wing in some order or another, with a little bit of CLAMP manga thrown in for good measure. I watched all of Kenshin through Netflix, slow disc by disc, with my mom and little sister, and we were all very deeply in love with it. ^^

Edit: wow, now that I think about it, that was around 1999 or 2000. I feel like I've been an anime fan much longer than that... :p

I can't remember if it was Pokemon or DBZ first. I stopped watching anime for a while then picked up Bleach during middleschool.

The first anime that I ever saw some episodes of, was Dragon Ball Z. I think, I was under 10 at that time, I'm not really sure.

Digimon was the first anime i actually watched. Then came the shameful ( :p ) viewing of Sailor Moon, then cardcaptors, eventually after having played the game and watching the movie, i figured out the Pokemon was a show as well, so i jumped on that.
Digimon :)
