1. Assuming Pokemon doesn't count, Fullmetal Alchemist was my first anime (for the record, I primarily read manga).
2. Saw an ad in Shonen Jump (I subscribed as I was into Yugioh in 4th grade), heard stuff about it, decided to watch it.
3. It's actually a variety of things that got me into anime and manga, but it certainly helped.

1. Something like Gatchaman or X-Bomber.
2. They were on TV in the UK when I was child, localised as Battle of the Planets and Star Fleet.
3. Yeah, they were fun.

Hmm...

Technically, it was probably the mysterious cities of gold [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbVNZ-cghz0]

How? Well, I don't know. I was 4 years old at the time.

Going on a bit, the first ones I truly remember would probably have been Pokemon or Dragonball Z...

No... Scratch that.

Neon Genesis Evangelion. - And that was mainly because it was on TV at the time.

But what actually got me at all interested in it was the studio Ghibli films...

2. Toonami on Cartoon Network played it after school and when it first got on, I started watching it at my darcare. I started somewhere before the Namek Saga
3. Hell yeah, it totally rocked my world and showed me that stuff from Japan was freaking awesome!

1. Seven Cities of Gold, (technically it wasn't an anime in the same way Avatar isn't.)
2. Nickelodeon used to run run it in the late mornings.
3. I'm genuinely not sure, it might have, but, at the time my parents put the kibosh on it, so we may never know.

After that it was Bubblegum Crisis in the mid 90s, which didn't make me want to look for more.

EDIT: holy fuck, it was this:

oooo dear lets see.

1. Probably either Lupin III, G-force (Gaurdians of Space) or Voltron. But the first that I watched more than every now and then was either Ronan Warriors or Moble Suit Gundam Wing

2. I think I saw it on one of the midnight segments that ran anime (like sci-fi channel or Toonami midnight run)

3. Yeah definitely, cause back then all kinds of series were on in the evening on toonami, so I got introduced to Outlaw Star and a few other great series besides the ones I mentioned.

1. Dragonball Z
2. I think it just happened to be on when I watched TV, simple as that
3. No. I was too young at the time to recognise if what was "anime" and what wasn't, they were all just cartoons to me

1) Guyver
2) Mate had it on video. Oh yes.
3) Yes, I became a fan of Angel heart and city hunter. I'm into more futuristic anime's, but not too futuristic, if that makes any sense.....

1. My first was Elfen Lied, and I bloody loved it.

2. I'd always thought that anime was kids stuff, so I didn't really watch it, but then on the Escapist I started noticing how people kept raving about it and a bit of research made me realise that it;s definitely not kids stuff. Hence I watched some, the first that I saw that people seemed to think was decent and I felt I'd like, and that was Elfen Lied.

3. I'm still pretty new to the anime scene, but after watching and loving Elfen Lied (is it strange to have a bit of a crush on Lucy, given that the character is a psychpathic sadistic ***** who loves to effectively torture people to death?) I decided to watch Hellsing. I'm now up to episode 5, and intend to watch Death Note after that and then see what else I may possibly be interested in.

By the way, does anyone know any websites where I can see all six episodes of Hellsing Ultimate in English for free (dubbed, not subbed)? Obviously I don't mean for pirating purposes, but simply to watch. Subbed would be okay but I prefer English dubs rather than having to read the words on the screen.

Sailor Moon.
Yeah, I'm a dude, and my first anime was Sailor Moon. What're you gonna do about it?!
I was big into Toonami, and that was the first show I saw on it.
Yes, I've watched a metric shit-ton of anime since.

1) Ghost in the Shell
2) My bother started watching Adult Swim
3) Yes it did. Also, I credit it for getting me interested in philosophy.

It got me interested in watched other anime because Ghost in the Shell is just so profound. I moved on and found Fullmetal Alchemist and Evangelion which I liked for their focus on a kind of deeper reality thing that really gets to me.

First Anime(s)
Noozles, Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics, Voltron, Pokemon
Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service, Magic Knight Rayearth

Watched the first three there (N, GFTC, V) on tv when I was little. I think I was aware they were a different animation style than Inspector Gadget and Scooby-Doo, and might've even known they came from a country called Japan.

More recently got into Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, CardCaptors, Digimon, Shaman King, Mon Colle Knights, first anime on Cartoon Network I saw Inu Yasha, Wolf Rain, .hack//Sign, DeathNote, Bleach, FMA.

First anime I didn't watch on tv was probably Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service, Magic Knight Rayearth, Slayers. Mostly because my friend had bought it and showed it to me.

And yeah, these are all titles I've enjoyed, and I strive to increase my anime-watching repertoire. I remember my brother being into Transformers while I was into My Little Pony, but in my later years I became a huge Beast Wars fan. That count? Into TFA now

There was another anime from some kid's show old school anime I watched around the same time as "Grimm's Fairy Tales." There was a particular scene I can remember from it, but I can't remember the name of the show.

Y'know, this Mysterious Cities of Gold thing looks very familiar to me...
