I was a karate teacher. Well more of a helper at first.

OP: What age are you? Bookie seems like a job for a more grown up person, yet most people get their first job around 15.

My first job was as a Marketing Assistant in the UK's largest electrical retailer.

Prior to this I never bothered with a job when I was younger as I only ever bought the essentials, so never required the extra cash. I just saved up weekly allowance from doing odd jobs around the home.

For me the marketing assistant role was the perfect first job, I worked with a great bunch of people in a very enjoyable role. Unfortunately it was only for a year, as it served part of my university course, but I learnt a lot from it which has benefited me greatly and also looks amazing on my CV.

My first job was/is with Pizza Hut. It isn't all that bad if you can force yourself to ignore the stupid co-workers. Currently, because I am training my replacement, I get free meals :D Five days left until I'm done and ready for University!

Well, down here in America it is close to impossible to get a job if you are not a stellar student, so I haven't had one yet.

I do volunteer at the Ronald Mcdonald house 3 to 4 nights a week, and I often have to talk to Spanish speaking relatives of the families. Let's just say, thank god for the google translate tool.

I have three jobs at the moment, but my first job was a gameroom attendant at the local Chuck E. Cheese. Needless to say, I get to see and hear some of the most idiotic things. I also have alot of people lying to me about winning or losing things, so it gets kind of annoying.

Now, I got a simple question for you guys. What was your first job like? Were there any horror stories? Was it anything like you thought it would be? Are you still working there?

Door-to-door sales. Commission only, selling pay-tv to people in government assisted housing. The type of people who would probably spend money on beer rather than bread.
Pretty much every day was a new horror story waiting to happen. The cream of the crop was one unit I knocked, this woman answered. I got my name and company out, then she went on a 5 minute rant, hardly stopping to breathe. It went along the lines of "all salesmen are the scum of the earth". She topped it all off by spitting right in my face. Lovely.

After hearing the job description, a couple alarm bells started ringing, but it wasn't until a fortnight later when I figured out the job was ass-on-crackers. If the company felt like paying people, you'd get paid. If not, you didn't. Because we had 90% of the workers being backpackers, they could get away with it.

Still with it? Oh god no! I got a GOOD job now. Stable wages, much nicer people to work with. No 12 hours, 6 days a week, hard slog for me.

I'm turning 20 this year. Only reason why I never got a job earlier, like around 15-16, was because I didn't think I'd be able to work and keep up with school at the same time. Not only that, but most places near me where almost always not hiring.

I was a camp counselor for a local day care centre for about 5 years.

It was actually fun. Kids were nice which is odd for 5-8 year olds.

My first job was/is working with a friend of the family who does power washing. She would power wash decks and then we would put a fresh coat of paint on them. I would keep working with her but school is going to take so much of my time and life that I can't.

Almost 20, and I've never worked a day in my life. Working gives me blisters, and money. Neither of which I like.
