Now, I got a simple question for you guys. What was your first job like? Were there any horror stories? Was it anything like you thought it would be? Are you still working there?

Door-to-door sales. Commission only, selling pay-tv to people in government assisted housing. The type of people who would probably spend money on beer rather than bread.
Pretty much every day was a new horror story waiting to happen. The cream of the crop was one unit I knocked, this woman answered. I got my name and company out, then she went on a 5 minute rant, hardly stopping to breathe. It went along the lines of "all salesmen are the scum of the earth". She topped it all off by spitting right in my face. Lovely.
After hearing the job description, a couple alarm bells started ringing, but it wasn't until a fortnight later when I figured out the job was ass-on-crackers. If the company felt like paying people, you'd get paid. If not, you didn't. Because we had 90% of the workers being backpackers, they could get away with it.
Still with it? Oh god no! I got a
GOOD job now. Stable wages, much nicer people to work with. No 12 hours, 6 days a week, hard slog for me.
