As is usual with the title: Films and Music.
Of course I felt some form of acceptance earlier today when one of the articles here on The Escapist (concerning space-fighter sims) began by mentioning coming home and turning on The Smashing Pumpkins and later mentioned the song that cradles the lyric 'Hipsters, unite.'

I was actually talking to a few people when I realised I accidentally became a hipster(if that's even possible, pretty sure it isn't), but anyways...

I don't listen to mainstream music, half the games I play most people haven't even heard of, my clothing consists of greyscale, yet all of my purchases have been from a suit store(they got some fancy casual clothes in there too), Horribly addicted to anime, yet still have my stack of Halo games, I think Umineko is good, even though it seems to be hated among other anime watchers, I don't have an Ipod, I have an old no name brand 4GB MP3 player, I have a Linux based OS on my phone(screw you iOS), and I STILL don't own a laptop.

-exhales-

I don't know what it is, but I just happen to not like a good amount of things that others seem to think is goldlike in alot of cases.

Oh! That reminds me! This one is sure to cause some sort of rise:

Skyrim is quite honestly meh. I quite enjoy the game, but I keep hearing how everyone thinks its the game forged by the gods themselves and I can only think "why?"

Of course with the recent 1.2 patch making me have 0 armor and magic resist when calculating damage at all times doesn't exactly help my opinion of it.

I seem to be the only person on Earth who thinks the Flash is the greatest super-hero ever. I THOUGHT I was alone in my hatred of how stupidly popular Batman has become, but Moviebob proved me wrong. :p

Hey you and me both!!! :D

Also, I totally loved vampires before they were cool ^_^ (no seriously, I was like 7.... mum sent me to a shrink, she thought I had an 'unhealthy obsession' with them)

I enjoy some pretty obscure punk / indie music. It's not the fact that it's obscure; I just happen to stumble upon a great sounding song on last.fm or get a tip from my brother and find out the rest of the band's library is phenomenal. I suppose it helps I've acquired a taste for less structured music as well.
As far as video games, I tend to not like indie games. I go for more mainstream games because obviously they're going to be more well made. That being said, I don't play CoD or Gears; Halo is about as mainstream as I play, and that game is frowned upon by the gamers in my general area.
I'm into anime, some less-known stuff from my brother, but most of what I watch is fairly popular (Eden of the East, Samurai Champloo, etc.)
People call me a hipster for the music I listen to (gauging popularity by Youtube views - less than 1k views for most bands), but really I tend to conform a lot fashion and vernacular-wise.
So basically, my "hipster-thing" is definitely music.

I detest hipsters for this very reason:

I enjoy PBR. I am a beer snob, but something about PBR, I don't know...

I was drinking it for many MANY years (back when it was under 5 bucks for a 12 pack) and I got shit talked for drinking it, but now I can't go to any local art venue without seeing 80 different "indie art pieces" that all involve the PBR logo or can incorporated into it...

Also, I've had mutton chops for years, and all of a sudden I'm seeing the spring up everywhere. It's starting to become like the handlebar mustache (which I rocked for a bit, but I looked like a pedo...).

To make this all worse, when I complain about it, I look even MORE like a hipster...GAH!

had a hipster moment a few months ago. i was writing a paper about a couple of songs and chose two fairly obscure songs that i absolutely love and share some common themes. i was explaining to a few friends about what i was writing about and realized as i was explaining "jesus, i sound like such a pretentious prick right now". i'm not into that much obscure music, but not many of my friends listen to the same music that i listen to. BTW, the songs were "opinion" by greg graffin and "fall from grace" by times of grace.

Probably quite anti-hipster in that I hate the pants off Starbucks for no good reason. Also disliking coffee in general. Other than that I am like a leaf on the wind, following the breeze hither and thither until it gently wafts me down.

I shall just go out back and shoot myself. The pretentiousness! (swoon)

My taste in music isn't really all that defined by genre. But for the most part, it's metal. And I cringe inside every single time a customer walks into the shop and, upon hearing Killswitch Engage, The Unguided, Souldrainer or Empyrean
Killswitch Engage is so mainstream. I listen to As I Lay Dying. /hipster glasses.

Actually, if you were to talk to anyone my age around this area, I listen to quite a few "obscure" bands . . . grab the group of friends I hung out with in high school and unless I forced them to listen to them, I could guarantee none of them would know the following bands:
The Agony Scene
Animals As Leaders
Assemblage 23
Botch
Bury Your Dead
Combichrist
Corrosion of Conformity
Destroy The Runner
Eluveitie
Emarosa
Epicurean
Fair To Midland
Foxy Shazam
Funker Vogt
The Ghost Inside
Glassjaw
Glory of This
Hourcast
Kiss Kiss
Knives Exchanging Hands
Leaves' Eyes
Memphis May Fire
mewithoutYou
Oh, Sleeper
Poison The Well
Polkadot Cadaver
Protest the Hero
Scarlet
Sons of Aurelius
Vanna
Veil of Maya
We Came As Romans
Will Haven
Within The Ruins
The Word Alive

Oh, also ffs-dontcare, pretty much the entire rest of your post makes me think you're secretly me. I don't have any Apple products, my MP3 player is quite obviously not an iPod (it's a tiny little thing, too, very compact), I've never done drugs or smoked and don't intend too, don't use Twitter (and haven't used Facebook in a very long time), I enjoy purchasing physical copies as well as downloading games, I enjoy my eight seasons of Scrubs on DVD.

Though I do like Halo/Gears/other console games (the Metal Gear Solid series in particular), and I've enjoyed my time with Skyrim (on PC) so far despite loathing its very existence due to the hype it got on this website.

I guess, as far as this topic is concerned, my "hipster" thing would be that I don't understand why gamers need to get up in arms and outraged over every little thing that involves other gamers/people in general.

A new console exclusive was released? Everyone who doesn't own that console get enraged, quick! A game is trying to bring in a larger crowd? Everybody, grab your torches and pitchforks, this hobby (or "luxury" as some people inexplicably call it) should only be enjoyed by the precious few! (Which, by the way, is a very "hipster" attitude in itself. Why should only you be allowed to enjoy something? Why should it cater to your very specific tastes instead of developing something you and your neighbor could enjoy? And please don't quote me attempting to show me the light of how games are being "dumbed down" for consoles or the masses, person who already has their mouse hovering over the quote button.)

EDIT: Oh, I think I'm one of the very few people who actually still likes World of Warcraft, too.

Ah, I'm glad I'm not the only one with all seasons of Scrubs on DVD sitting on my shelf. I also have four seasons of Fresh Prince at my disposal.

And agreed on World of Warcraft. It still has life left in it. I'm curious to see where it goes.

And as for that list of bands... I know four of them (which I have bolded).

You do sound a fair bit like me, it's almost scary. :p

The way I see it, nerds are the ultimate hipsters, except minus the pretentiousness. THINK ABOUT IT. Nerds did EVERYTHING before it was cool. That hipster might have wore those big nerdy glasses before they were cool, but those nerds wore those nerdy glasses before even the hipster thought they were cool! Face it, in a way, all hipster just really want to be nerds, but have too low of selfesteem to become complete nerds; ironic in a way. Nerd > Hipster

(I love reading too much into things)

I wear hipster glasses, you know the kind... Yeah, those.

My hair is also shaggy and I haven't shaved in three days. In terms of looks I score about a 10 on the hipster scale.
