1. Try to not stand out other than when needed to.
2. Don't bee too much of a sceptic to new people.

Those are the "codes" I live by if you take away all the obvious ones like "Do not kill" etc.

1. Follow the orders of your superiors, unless condradicts laws 2, 3 and 4.
2. Ensure education, unless condradicts laws 3 and 4.
3. Ensure physical, mental and spiritual freedom, unless condradicts law 4.
4. Do not allow unnecessary harm to be done upon anything.

Rather vague, but functional, as far as my sleep depraved brain can see.

Can you tell I'm a utilitarian?
Sound more like a hedonist.
Anyways mine would be this
1. Don't be a dick.

Ermm...

I don't think it's right to be forcing my morality on others... but i will say this, if there's something I could change, I would loosen some laws on fetishes. They're awfully tight sometimes.

1.Don't live in the past or future.

2.Don't force opinions on other people

3.Its better to be neutral than to be in a conflict

4.Never blow things out of proportion.

5.Violence is pointless unless a life depends on it.

6.Don't judge or generalize things or people.

I don't have a code. I see all forms of morality as subjective. The closest I would come to having a code is that I take my needs and wants above all else and live only for myself. I do what is needed to ensure that I will always be living the life that I want to live. I don't buy into the concept of living for other people, because that doesn't make me happy. In my ideal world, all people would work only to fulfill their own wants.

So I'm sort of an objectivist, I guess. Go figure.

Sanity is a rather vague concept, yeeees?

And I'm afraid you've already lost on number 3. And number 2, for that matter.

In case of number 3, what exactly do you consider "getting inside your mind"? The majority of everyone's childhood and early school years involves indoctrination into the norms of where you live. How is that not getting into your mind? You're not allowed nor yet capable of making any decisions yourself - you're just being taught a concept and said that it's truth. It's not such a bad thing when it comes to sciences and more objective things, but when it comes to a lot of other stuff, it's simple brainwashing.

And for number 2, there are plenty of mind-altering effects your own body causes. Ever heard of, for example, runner's high? I'm a casual runner, and when it happens, it's really no different from being drunk or stoned in sense of mind altering properties. Same goes for adrenaline rush when you're scared or threatened. It's completely different from normal reality.

Of course, there are also all the mind altering substances used in medicine, mainly for anesthesia or as pain killers or anti-depressants. Are you against those too?

I really don't understand the logic of that. What exactly is your "normal" state of mind? Are you against the idea of mind altering effects? Then you already lose, they happen naturally anyways and I don't think you can stop them.

Are you against outside mind altering effects that can't naturally occur within your body? Say good bye to a lot of helpful medicine and medical procedures.

I can understand some kind of "straight edge" logic behind your ideas, but I can't even fathom understanding behind the logic behind the whole "straight edge" crowd.
For number two, I meant from when I was able to make my own decisions. I also meant not letting people get to me, through things like insults and whatnot.

For number three, I basically just meant drugs and alcohol. Things hamper my ability to make my own decisions in a logical manner.

Basically Jean Paul Satre's Existentialism is a Humanism. Quite possibly the most applicable and useful moral text ever published. And its less than a hundred pages long.

Only One:
Always act according to the circumstances/be rational, act stricly by moral or social codes(dogmas) only when unavoidable. If possible don't be a jerk whilst doing so.

Anything else is unefficient and therefore a waste of time...
Also see Kant's "Categorical imperative".

But there are plenty natural-occuring effects that can and do hamper your ability to make logical decisions. Aforementioned states - like when you're panicked or otherwise threatened most certainly affect decision making progress. That's why military and police go through elaborate training with a lot of discipline involved - without it, you rely on instincts alone and instincts and logical thinking don't really go hand in hand.

Strong emotions, too. Predetermined and unprovable beliefs. Simple ignorance of surrounding environment. Basic cranial trauma. Sufficiently annoying irritation of any kind. You don't need any help from drugs to hamper your logical thought process, trust me. Some types of stimulants might even help it.

And still, there's the sanity part. Where do you base your "sanity"? Considering your first rule, which is "live for yourself", or something, I already removed the post from the quote, it's pretty clear that you do not think everything should be devoted to the society.

But what we consider sanity generally doesn't go much further then following the societal expectations and norms, however idiotic from certain points of view they might be. A man who claims to see ghosts and believes that there is a conspiracy of musketeers out to get him is labeled as schizophrenic and "insane" because his actions and beliefs don't fit into the societal norms, and because he has no proof for, well, what he claims. A man who believes in an equally unprovable god (And no, everyone who's reading it, don't try to turn this into a religion thread unless you have objective proof) is accepted because similar beliefs have been a norm in said man's society for generations.

This isn't the best example, actually. A much better way would be to look at various social values.
