Hm...

Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy X
Mass Effect 2
Dragon Age Origins

I'd say those last three could all swap places at random and I'd still be satisfied with their placements.

Kingdom Hearts II
KoToR II
Dragon Age: Origins
FF X
FF XII (Yeah i know the story was OK, instead of the FF standard of AMAZING. But the gameplay was great)

BTW i'm not sure if Pokemon counts (Sometimes classified as RPG), if so, then SoulSilver replaces FF XII and takes second place.

My list goes as follows:
Planescape: Torment
Demon's Souls
Baldur's Gate series, if I had to choose one, the second one.
Dragon Age: Origins
KotOR series, as with BG, if I have to choose one, it has to be the second one, with Restored Content mod, that is.

As a side note, the top 2 are also two parts of my top three games of all time.

EDIT: Hmm... I completely forgot Morrowind. I don't know which one of the five above to take out, so I'll just have to say that Morrowind is my hidden 6th. It has to be in there somewhere.

I can't bear to order them so top five in general are:

-Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion
-Golden Sun
-Skies of Arcadia Legends
-Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening, yes I count Zelda as an RPG
-Paper Mario Thousand Year Door

If I went back and looked through I would probably change this mildly but this is my top five off the top of my head.

1. Dragon Age: Origins
2. Mass Effect 2
3. Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer
4. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
5. Fallout 3

Definitely a bit of a Bioware heavy list, but they're popular because their games are the best. I'd like to give Alpha Protocol an honourable mention though. Terrible gameplay, but the story and role playing aspects were some of the best I've seen.

Dragon Age Origins
Mass Effect 1 & 2
Final Fantasy VIII
WoW - probably deserves a mention, yeah its totally evil and I don't play anymore but it is the best designed game I've ever seen.

1. Fallout 3
2. Demon's Souls
3. World of Warcraft
4. Neverwinter Nights
5. Fallout New Vegas

Edit: Somehow I missed Persona 4, it would've been probably somewhere on this list, but I won't change it now, just a honorable mention:) /Edit

No Bioware stuff, I'm sorry, ME is not an RPG and DA:O has the most boring combat in rpg history.

I'd have a hard time calling Deus Ex an RPG as well. It's definitely my favorite game ever, and it was big inspiration to the new Fallouts and ME, but it just isn't an RPG, it's in the same class as ME, except less corridors.

1. Planescape: Torment
2. Arcanum
3. Terranigma (frankly, these two are interchangeable)
4. Final Fantasy IX
5. Final Fantasy VI? STALKER: SoC? Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup? Something I can't recall at the moment? No clue.

5)Star Wars: Knights O' the Ol' Republic
Oh, neat, another Spiderweb fan. Wouldn't place the Avernum games at the top of my list or anywhere near it, personally, but they're good fun. If only I could get Geneforge working in a window, I'd play through them soon enough. Well, aside from the issue of time.

The classics:
- Fallout 1 and 2
- Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 with both expansions
- Planescape: Torment
- Arcanum

The indie:
- Eschalon: Book I

The oddball:
- Stonekeep (1995 by Interplay). This game was an absolute revolution! And here's the sad part: Black Isle Studios worked on a sequel called Stonekeep 2: Godmaker for five years before cancelling it in 2001.
