Yeah, the only game I really liked in the entire series is the 1st one. Then they just kept giving Kratos worse and worse excuses for being an asshole whereas in the 1st game it made a certain kind of sense.

The first game was pretty great and did a really good job with his character, making him a monster, but at least he felt kinda bad about some of the stuff he did. It was really setup like a greek tragedy. After that it just got cartoony and really should have had one of the millions he had wronged take him out.

Another thing I respect Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge for, is the more honest arcadey nature of the game. The previous two games were already arcadey in nature, but the exploration on top of that in their vanilla releases. Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Sigma 2/Black II pretty much remove most and all of the puzzle solving respectively. It's honestly works to both games benefit. Especially in Black II.

I find it much harder to go back and play DMC4 Dante. He's still fun, but really limited compared to DMC3 incarnation (especially with the Switch port allowing style switching on the fly) and especially to DMC5. I only like 3 out of his 7 weapons (Dark Slayer Style gives him limited uses of Yamato that can be fun, so it counts). Though Gilgamesh is just a worse version of Beowulf, even though I enjoy using it.

DmC_Dante does have more limited weapon kit compared to DMC4 Dante, but at least DmC_Dante's weapons are all fun to use, and switch between combo starters and enders with pause combos to make up for his more limited kit. DmC_Dante still has more robust and flexible tool kit, than most Western style Single Player Stylish Action Games or God of War clones. The Definitive Edition of DmC (2013) fixes most of the gameplay issues I had with the original release, thus making him more fun to play and experiment with.

Not every platform fighter needs to play like Super Smash Bros Melee, and I'm tired of seemingly everyone developing one lately deliberately trying to just be Melee with different characters.

-Melee fans already have Melee, and even 20XX isn't going to get them to find a new game; you aren't that guy.
-People who don't care for Melee aren't going to be attracted to a game that's Melee but with furries/Batman/whatever else.
-People who don't know about Melee aren't going to care that it plays exactly like Melee.

So why would you try to remake Melee wholesale instead of developing your own game with its own mechanical identity? Somehow, Nintendo in Melee's own sequels are better at this than the imitators!

To be fair, Nick All Stars Brawl did well with both games, and the developers focused on making a fun game first, even though they too were inspired by Smash Bros. Though that just makes the All Stars games the exception and not the rule. MultiVersus failed, because of WB's corporate executive shenanigans than trying to be similar to Melee.

GTA in general you couldn't get me to play again even if you tried paying me. A lot of open world sandbox games aren't what they're cracked up to be, or only have nostalgia factor going for them.

How much of this is a hot take anymore is up to debate, but I never hated Max Payne 3. The game has its issues, but a few critics (most gaming critics liked the game fine enough) from back in the day or at ground zero tried to make it sound worse than it actually was or is. Especially a lot of critics from The Escapists. The most vocal be Yahtzee and Extra Credits at the time. They tried to make it seem like you should be ashamed for enjoying the game, it's story or how Max develops as a character. It's fine if you don't like something, but don't shame anybody else for enjoying a game you don't. The people enjoying the game aren't the problem.

I am glad Dynasty Warriors Origin is doing great, but I am not paying $70 for the game, and I rather just pick up Warriors Abyss.

I know that; I was speaking generally about my distaste for how every platform fighter that isn't Super Smash Bros is trying so damn hard to be Melee instead of putting that effort into being themselves.

If Ubisoft does fall into their worst-case scenario and lose enough money that they have to sell their IPs, in a perfect world here's who I'd want to see pick them up:
-Assassin's Creed: From Software
-Far Cry: Capcom
-Might and Magic: Larian
-Prince of Persia: Also Capcom
-Rayman: Nintendo
-Watch Dogs: Who cares?

Though honestly I expect Embracer Group to just buy everything and add it to their dragon hoard forever without making any new titles.

I know I don't. There was nothing to this franchise from the start. I still don't get the hype for it.

Rayman: Nintendo

Sega is pretty good option too. Funny enough, Rayman Legends plays more like a Sonic game in certain aspects. Especially those musical runner levels.

Spikeout Battlestreet makes a lot of the non-Devil May Cry, non-God of War, and non-Ninja Gaiden brawlers/H&S games from the PS2 era look like shit or even bigger shit. Ironic, because Battlestreet is just port/modification of Spikeout: Final Edition. An arcade game from 2000, that is sequel to the previous arcade game from 1999. Battlestreet may have lousy checkpoint system, but still plays better than The Bouncer, The Warriors, Red Star, most of the early Dynasty Warriors games (2-4), and even God Hand. As much as I love God Hand, the controls take getting used to, and has controller damaging QTEs. It's part of the reason why I have not popped the game in over a decade.

And everything about WD1 can be described as 2014: The Game. Though much more boring.

No way in hell this year. They haven’t even dropped a gameplay trailer yet, and Rockstar has yet to surprise anyone with an on time release. Besides, next year makes more sense given the title if they can even hit that target.

So, hate to be that person but I have to point out that Phantom Pain (the last Kojima/Konami game, and why I assume Konami was brought up) came out a decade ago now in '15.

There are already some die hard Ninja Gaiden II fans calling Team Ninja "scammers and betrayers" for not having nor living up to the "true meaning" of carrying the name Ninja Gaiden Black. Simple version: they're bitching so much because Ninja Gaiden II: Black is not the vanilla version and its Sigma 2 again, but with the gore added back in and the proper currency upgrade system. They have points of there being less bonus costumes compared to either versions, the removal of Ninja Race (a mode I didn't find that fun nor interesting), but it's not the end of the world. Yes, the Buddah and Statue of Liberty bosses are gone from Sigma 2, but no one is going miss them. They added nothing to the overall experience, and Lady Liberty is just a model swap with electrical attacks. The people who love the vanilla version so much can play it to their hears content. There are still plenty of physical copies on the cheap, and the game is still available on the Microsoft/XBOX store, so the original version is widely available on One X and Series X.

Most casual fans and new players aren't going to care about it, so long as the game is good and fun. Which it is. II Black is a great starting point for people wanting to get into the franchise or games. Yes, I know II: Black doesn't have the bevy of bonuses seen in NG04, NGB, nor Sigma 1 & 2, but it's still a great game with replay value and has the best bonus mode (to me) packed in for that version. Fine if you dislike it, but don't rain on other people getting genuine enjoyment for this version, nor care about the missing bonus features from prior versions.

I actually prefer Street Fighter V's complete roster over SFIV's. As much as I love SFIV, it has too many Shotos, and I hate Rufus so much. Abel I find boring and nothing there, and C. Viper I never found that interesting, aside from her design. There's a good reason why Juri is the only SFIV character to return back to back in both future sequels. The only advantage SFIV has over SFV is the Ultra SFIV, and it having Elena (a lot of the popular SFIII characters), and all of the major Final Fight characters in the game. I do prefer clay like animation and art style over in V over IV's ink art style.
