I think most child psychologists and developmental specialists would tell you that a fourteen year old shouldn't be having sex. It's just not a good idea; neurologically, they aren't ready for it. I don't think the law should prevent teenagers from having sex with each other, but that doesn't mean parents and authority figures should just say, "Go nuts!" and hope everything works out for the best. Too many teenagers aren't mature enough to handle the repercussions of sex for it to be considered a valid activity at that age. Again, don't throw them in jail for it - it's not a crime, it's just a bad idea.

I'm fine with it, as long as its not a 20 year old sleeping with a 14 year old (i know of examples of this). If they are roughly the same age and feel ready then let them.

In law i think it should be represented by a staggered system. a minimum age (say 12) below which sex is 100% illegal. Between this lower limit and a set upper limit (say 16) two people of similar age can legally have sex, if one party is above the upper limit it would be considered illegal. After they turn 16 they can sleep with anyone they like

Hmmm, I'd have to say it's okay, but only among people of a similar age group and so long as there is protection involved and both parties are educated enough that they understand what they are doing.

I personally became sexually curious at a very early age, so I can't really be against other people doing the same, but... It is a very gray area...

...ironic I come on when there has been 69 replies anyway

well, the age limit I feel is more a guideline, and it's more about maturity. I've known 13 year olds more prepared and matured for sex than 18 year olds. We need these laws to stop abuse, but if both people are ready and consenting, then fair enough

I'm not really sure how I feel about it. If both are a similar age then no real problems I guess. Tbh with you I wish I had been younger when I first had sex...

What's your view on underage sex, then?
It can be anywhere from sluts going around doing it in the toilets with three people a day, or mature rational 15 year olds (I say 15 as it's close to 16 - legal age here) who have talked about it a lot, and decided that as long as they're very very careful, then it's a good thing, as they believe they're in love.
Do you find both situations to be the same? Both unacceptable as the law is the law, or both fine as it's their lives?
Basically, what do you think on the matter?

Edit: I just saw how this could appear. I'm only asking because we had to sit through an assembly at school on it, and I was wondering about your opinions.
Alright, let me just put things straight here.

Sex between younger people is fine with me as long as :

- It is made out of love, not lust or spite.
- Both parties are consenting and the same age (1 -/+ )
- Some safety measures are taken e.g. condom or birth control.
- You don't let it take over your life, ruin your love to her, or make you not achieve your grades.

I did it without my parents knowing, with a girl who at the time was the 'love of my life' , we took all precautions required, we were both the same age (16). We also happened to be both virgins when it happened, which made it all the more sweet.

Then we had it more and more often, and even when we tried to slow down we would do it again. Seriously, even if you have taken all the precautions, try to think if its really neccessary, or is a naked cuddle in bed enough.

Don't bother me, but it's a slippery slope. The laws in place for paedophilia, and to an extent the minimum age restriction is there to protect kids from predatory adults. What kids do with each other is their own stupid mess.

As long as they are 15+ , safe and consenting, I don't really care. Teens are teens. Highly sexual beings. Exploration with each other, and themselves is natural and shouldn't be restricted, but they should also have the information about sex that they need - why their bodies feel the way they do, and of course safety. I don't really feel comfortable with 15+ teens with adults 20+, but there isn't much I can personally do about it. That is up to the family, and the law.

What I do care about are schools teaching abstinence-only classes and not proper sexual education. Kids and teens need real information you morons. Abstinence-only classes should be an opt out option for certain people and their beliefs (etc) - but even then, I still think they should take proper sexual education.

My rational mind says 16 is the big minimum, my testosterone says NOW, and my mind answers "stop thinking with your dick and use a condom!"

I think it's probably a good idea to keep it illegal. Sure, SOME underage people can handle it. But the majority of them? It's probably best they wait a while to mature.

I think it's fine. Any consenting sex two 15 year olds want to have with each other is perfectly fine, why wouldn't it be? I'm not 15, and I don't have any 15 year old kids, so it wouldn't concern me. And I have no right to tell people what to do or what not to do if it doesn't concern me. It's up to them. But if I were to give them advice, it would be to use some kind of protection. Taking care of a three year old at 18 or 19 really kind of sucks, I would imagine.

I don't care if kids fuck young. When they hit puberty, sex is going to be a thing. If we educate them about it properly, as opposed to just using a scare tactic and abstinence only sex ed. curriculum, it should be fine. I think the formula age/2 + 7 works as a general rule, and the age of consent should be 14, and no lower than 14.

I think not only underaged sex should be outlawed, I think sex should completely be outlawed, and performing the act should be punishable by the death sentence. I HATE people, and the less likely it is that more of them are made, the better.

they're ruining their understanding of how relationships are supposed to form. BIG TIME. all of my good friends that had sex before basically graduating high school all wish they hadn't. they say that its basically perspective-altering. and once something like sex has occurred, you kinda just...it loses color. and not only that, but the women they had sex with didnt prove to be the long relationship type. and sex is supposed to be something between you and the one. which none of them were, and it hurt them all BAD.

i mean, maybe that person is the one for you.....idk. just seriously, if you're a teenager, you have a TON to learn, and its best not to bury yourself with these very powerful emotions. focus on school and stuff. because seriously, this isn't a time of your life to mess up...especially with a kid or something (SO DO IT SAFE IF YOU DO IT AT ALL!!!!!)....
....
k, im done.

They do it and then brag about how "good" they were. It obnoxious to say the least, I mean loving someone is one thing but bragging about it is another. Heres an idea "Do it and keep saying your a virgin until someone realizes your not. Test the intelligents of people while your at it, its entertaining."
