Good Christ this thread got a lot of hate right out the back.

I'm not even really a "waifu" type of guy, but I have contributions.

That love interest from Yu Yu Hakusho. Don't remember her name, but I remembered that she did legitimately seem like a real innocent person. Plus, you see her go through about 3 years of her life, leaving you to actually think she has some depth.

But, this was a few years back and I haven't really watched any cartoons for a long while. So I really don't think I have one any more.

A term coined by Otaku and Weeaboo alike for their 2D significant others; predominantly anime and video game characters. A Waifu, in contrast to a harem, is the love between one man and his one and only Waifu. You treat your Waifu with the utmost respect and courtesy and most refuse to even fap to their beloved, seeing the act as an insult to the non-existent woman they have committed themselves to.

Why is this....odd term used for only like Anime/Video Games and not like...a real spouse.. You could deconstruct this and kinda (sorta in a looooong stretch) turn it into some sorta code for how you would treat your future spousal

I have no clue how this is considered creepy.
Reality is a falsified concept of sensory information to validate the human condition.
Memory is the single and only important factor in dictating reality, as many of us play games I think we can all agree we remember those times fondly.

The physical world certainly has more physical merits but we are talking about a hypothetical favorite from a memory we enjoyed. Not the physical world.

As soon as imagination steps into the ring, reality dies a horrible uncontested fight.

Much as I agree with you (your point, not your argument), I don't think bringing epistemology into this argument will make anyone pay any attention... well, weirdos such as myself notwithstanding... clarification, 'make any of the vehement debaters present pay any attention'.

No I didn't really think it would sway anyone, just voicing my belief that reality seems to be a wildly misused concept.
For example "This is sad, you should get a real girlfriend" is a notion I see a lot, about everything, most commonly with fantasy.
But it assumes that fantasy and reality are exclusive, which they are not.
It assumes that fantasy is meaningless, if it were I assure you massive corporations would not spend billions of dollars on movie and video game productions.
Then going beyond that it is said most often with no knowledge of the target, thus it's not even a statement based in reality.

But I could ramble forever with no real point.
I do believe what I said, if you change someones memory you have literally changed the world in their eyes, made reality a fantasy.
Similarly a well written novel can easily bring out all of the senses people define as reality.

Depending on general viewpoint, 1 could be vice versa as well, because the memory (previous reality) has been altered (to new fantasy), and its acceptance as reality has come from fantasy. *shrug*

As for 2, the same is applicable for any well thought out medium. I find the argument that 'I wouldn't date a fictional character because they don't have a developed personality' to be somewhat idiotic (to put it mildly). Personality is the sum of reactions (conscious and unconscious) to experiences and stimuli (largely visual and audio) accumulated over ones lifetime. True, fictional characters are by their definition artificial constructs, but the level of detail to which some are built (incorporating personality flaws, personal tragedy, etc. etc. regardless of scale) makes them more relatable than a lot of 'real people' (archetypal douches, wags etc. etc.). Granted, most fictional characters are shallow and two dimensional, but then, how are real humans any better than that? Selfishness is what drives a human when thought is involved.

Anyway, why else do some actors go to such extraordinary lengths to embody the character that they portray? Case in point: Heath Ledger as the Joker.
