Well I'll be damned, he wasn't the only one who noticed it was Halo 3 with Jetpacks XD

Either way well done Yahtzee, you seemed to have said alot what I was thinking about this god awful game ¬_¬

However I will say the ending was a bit gripping, but that's like saying the last 10 mins in superbad make up for the crapfest
How is it awful? It's anything but.

I love how this entire thread is composed of people hating on Halo simply because its Halo. I doubt the majority here has even played a Halo game. Is it milked somewhat? Yeah but everything is nowadays, I mean look at your precious Half Life or Call of Duty or other games. Halo is popular FOR A REASON.
I played Halo Reach and I'll out right say it, Halo 2 was better than them all.

Yahtzee adressed it best and It can't be expressed enough. Halo Suffers from SOS(Same Old Shit) syndrome. The same Syndrome every Madden game or New Call of Duty suffers. Nothing drastically changes (Or Impressivly for that matter) and what few changes they do add, they take away from an older previous category that alot of people liked (IE using 2 Needlers).

So yeah...Halo:Reach dissapointed ME (Not the majority, just me), and the weapons...The only thing worthy of noting was the Goddamn Golfclub, that provided some entertainment.
Well...sorry to say this but...the golf club was in Halo 3. The thing is everyone expects it completely different than the other Halo games. Its part of a series of course it is going to be similar to the previous games. You see the same type of thing in some of the best games of all time ala Zelda etc.

I can't wait till he reviews games like Bf1942 and Red Orchestra on the single player. He really needs to look at games with multiplayer (not on consoles). I know he's said numerous times that single player should hold up, so does that mean games such as WoW or Eve should do the same?

Did anyone else notice he assumed reach was the first contact with the covenant? They knew what to do because they had been fighting a losing war for a good while then. Other then that yes good review as always makes me laugh.

I love the game and I love the multiplayer. Of course if I sucked at multiplayer I would hate it to. The campaign wasn't super long or anything, but lots of people play Halo for the multiplayer and forge and firefight and custom games so instead of a main goal its more like a top 3 kinda thing.

I still think he left out a lot. Considering how much he enjoyed the customization options in Saints Row 2, you would think he would have given credit for the fully customizable player model that was represented in campaign.
However, customization wasn't nearly THAT advanced.
And you needed to grind credits. And seeing as how he usually only has a week to play this stuff, he probably went with some of the cheap, bare-minimum stuff.

EXACTLY, by skipping over multiplayer, firefight, forge and theater he is skipping over 3/4th the game. Not to mention he said the game manages to stand up with singleplayer alone I think he would enjoy the game in its entirety.

I heard "Scrotum Monster" and lawl'd hard.

I agree that Halo could have done a lot more in the way of the titular "Evolving," but it had a formula that worked well enough and I was sold on the universe from the start, so it's a definite buy for me.

I enjoyed reach, good game, and what few gripes I have with it (severe lack of opportunities for scorpion apocalypse, etc) in single player, aren't really deal breakers. I gotta ask bungie though, did you guys update the AI's vehicle driving abilities at all since Halo 1? NPC's still cannot drive for shit. I really wanted to be on the turret, but god forbid I put these fools in charge of the driving for one second. I'm surprised Yahtzee didn't mention that... pants-on-head retarded is still applicable here.

Still, I like the game.

I was expecting another super smash brothers, where it takes him 5 months to do it, oh well.
It always bugged me how open and flimsy the vehicles looked in halo and the no seatbelt things when your rolling a warthog
Have you looked at the passenger, they're supposed to be sitting but instead they're crouching, they even have their foot on the dashbaord
yeah, really the vehicles in that game wouldn't be good to fight in but they would be great for launching your passengers into space with
Yeah... and it's sure as hell fun to watch

they spent an awful lot of money to make a game that has the same entertainment value as theme park

I agree with Yahtzee that if you're going to pay full price, you expect a full game. Games need to be able to stand up on single player alone. And as he said, a lot of HD console games have no longevity. Their multiplayer is a ghost town after a few months, so it's hard to recommend them strictly based on multiplayer.

Reach seems like your typical overhyped cash-in sequel. It was a hot item for about a week, and now less than a month later, no one is talking about it.

I'm the first to admit: I'm a Halo fanboy. But I'm disappointed that he didn't even mention Firefight or Forge mode. They're both really fun and distracting if you get bored with Campaign or Online Multiplayer.

An ending to a series these days is surely a lie...as he said someone will surely dig it back up and milk the cows till...forever.

Soooo... He almost liked it?

Whatever, that comment about the new gameplay variants being over faster than "an erection at a Bangkok strip joint" was funny as hell.

Oddly enough I never thought 2 Needlers were ever worth the pixels on my screen though to be honest I only liked the alien half of Halo 2. I liked Reach much more but maybe partly because unlike 3 it had actual pacing. The gear in how it functions was a bit of a change but I think with a prequel you are somewhat limited in some aspects...like how the starwars prequels replaced the headhunters with the arc fighters. Sure tell me the folding wings get replaced later with solid ones and then folding ones again for no reason.

Either way I fail to see why a game should be able to stand on single-player ONLY when its one out of several options on the menu. If you don't like multi-player then I wouldn't recommend much beyond RPGs these days. Though a games single-player (or 1-4 player experience) should be able to stand on it's own without needing books or movies... at least this one didn't have that issue.

I disagreed vehemently with the Halo 3 review but I think he's spot on with Reach. However he did say that you might need to go through the books and that to understand the story. Not true. The story is so bad in Halo Reach that it's actually MORE CONFUSING if you have read the books and know what's supposed to be going on.
Now this I don't get.

The story is the most simple and straight forward tale yet seen from the Halo franchise.

The Covenant have found Reach, humanity's largest military hub world, and commence attacking it. The Humans try to repel the invasion but fail. The covenant win. The ending ties into Halo 1, which it is supposed to do, given that it's a prequel. Bob's your uncle. Bungie makes billions.

I've never understood the claim that Halo's plot is impenetrable. If anything, it's too damn simple. If you or anyone else are at all confused, I'd gladly take the 4.5 seconds necessary to explain.

Now, in regards to the lack of a multiplayer review from Yahtzee...duh? He's never bothered with multiplayer on any game where it wasn't the sole purpose for the game's existence, why should he start now?

Halo's multiplayer is, without a doubt, an integral part of the game. It has been since Combat Evolved, in the form of co-op and LAN parties. The single player is, of course, a focal point, but it's not the ONLY focal point. I should think that would be obvious to anyone who's had even a passing daliance with the game.

Apologies if I sound crass, but this is silly.
