If he thinks it's that shocking to not have an iPhone, think how shocked he'd be to learn there are still people without cell phones.

(approx) "You do need an i-Phone, but if you don't have one at this point let us know how you managed to breathe on Mars"

Very well, thank you very much. They have this gum and your lungs just shrivel up. UNK BRAIN HURT!

I drop my phone too much to have something so breakable, also throwing your phone when you are drunk does not help SMSes go faster.

Too much stuff to do to be bothering with Apple products.

But I like it here on Mars. At least we're still a planet. And we don't have to put up with any Linsey Lohan bullshit. :)

I'm surprised he didn't mention Osmos perhaps the best game on the platform yet. Games like Revolt, Samurai: Way of the Warrior, MiniGore, Zen Pinball: Rollercoaster and Hero of Sparta are also quite good.

My issue with iPhone games, a common one amongst other portable device gamers, is you have to touch the screen and essentially block some of what you are viewing. For Osmos and a few other puzzle games it's fine, even necessary, but overall why would you want your fingers blocking the screen? For that matter why would you want to have to constantly wipe the smudges off your screen in order to clearly see the game you are playing?

Give me a Tegra 2 Android phone with buttons. Then again maybe it's better to have a cheap phone, you know, to call and receive calls and then a separate portable gaming device. Nothing worse than playing a game on a subway and then not being able to use your phone on the street cause the battery is near dead.

I do not have an iphone. But I don't live on Mars - I live on an overlooked skin tag somewhere deep in the armpit of Texas, and the simple fact is that, where I live, Verizon offers better coverage on more remote mountain peaks than does AT&T. And Apple doesn't like Verizon as much.

Just had to put my two cents in on that. Love the review, as always.

I found a way to breathe on Mars by buying an HTC HD2 and subsequently HTC Desire HD ;/
Great review ,though!
HTC all the way! I also have the HD2 and love it. Pretty much has all the same games as the Iphone and plus if we don't we just mod it to where we do =P

iPhone Games

This week, Zero Punctuations reviews some of the popular iPhone games at this time.

Seriously what the fuck was that? That second game was 'innovative'? Really? I guess you must have missed the thousands and thousands of flash games available for free on the internet where the principle 'thing drops and you have to manipulate it to a goal' is repeated ad nauseum.

And what about that duck bullshit? Any destruction flash games? Fruit Ninja I'll give you, I haven't seen those two exact things combined in that exact way before so I guess it counts as innovation.

I'm sick of critics all licking Apple's rim continuously with lies (like these about 'innovation'). Sort yourselves out criticising industry, your laziness is beginning to mirror that of political journalists.

The Quest Gold is my favourate Iphone game at the moment, but it's fucking hard. I also like Raven sword: the fallen king is also pretty good, and the app that turns pictures of people into zombies is hilarious! When is Yahtzee going to do Fable III??

ps if you havn't noticed already I'm an RPG freak :)

Frankly i don't have much interest in I-phone games because simply there are many similar flash games available on the PC .. i don't find them (I-phone games) appealing or innovative in any way .. they lack depth and are more often gimmicky than innovative ... that said some of them can really be fun .. but that's rare.

Now to what's really important .. where is VANQUISH review yahtzee XD

iphone games (I dont own one) seem to be a good way to spend a few minutes on the bus. But having to slap my friends iphone from his hand so he'll actually talk to us in a pub is begining to get a bit annoying <.<

Don't ask me how I'm breathing here. I could tell you, but I'd have to shoot you.

(I have an ipod and a Blackberry.)

You are loathe to call them casual games? Can it be that you bought into and continue the bullshit that there is a real difference between the two?

Hardcore and casual do not describe video games. They describe the attitude you take when approaching video games. It is possible to play Halo in 20 minute bursts and it is possible to play Bejeweled for 3 weeks non stop.

Here's an example: Under any definition of hardcore that I've seen on the internet, Fighting games fail the hardcore test. The typical game lasts 15-25 minutes, they can be won through button mashing, and they do not have deep story lines. That is the definition of casual, the antithesis of the so called hardcore gamer. However, the genre tends to be lumped into the hardcore gamer category. Why? Because there are people that devote weeks and years of their time learning the subtleties of all the characters. As soon as a game is over, they restart and play again. Doing all of that does not change the fact that the games are not meant to be played that long. These players approach the games with a hardcore mindset and chose to spend time playing them.
