you could do a review of alien swarm, maybe that and some others like you do with XBLA titles?

if more people learn of it the quicker we'll get the full game.

It's things like this that make me regret not having a PS2. Go ahead, bring on the hate.

I tried the game, meh! 1st off, I can't stand romance sub-plots, shoehorned or not and 2nd, why the fuck doesn't the game use controls everyone's familiary with? Triangle to jump, having to hold down a button to keep hold of a ledge, I think it's just deliberately trying to irritate me (mission accomplished)! I gave up on my 1st colossus.

And going off topic: Yahtzee, when you said that X3: Terran Conflict's biggest problem is that it's trying to be Elite, you were wrong! It's biggest problem is that it offers about as much explorative freedom as a concentration camp (sickly fitting considering the developer, Egosoft, is german) and despite being allegedly set centuries into the future, nobody has come up with an interstellar travel method and no, complete dependence on jump gates doesn't count!

And how about Star Trek Online next time? That deserves a sound verbal thrashing!

Isn't this getting a bit boring if you roam through empty space (in the sense of only landscape) and flooring 11 or whatever number of bosses there are? I mean what after that? Is this game really only 11 boss fights and that's it (well, except the lizard shooting he mentioned whatever this actually is).

Before packing out fanboy ranting keep in mind I didn't play that game (as I keep consoles as far aways as I can as they are unhealthy to games... see *cough*DX:IW*cough* and others) and am just asking a simply question upon seeing the description in the video and other saying mostly the same about this game.
First, it's sixteen bosses. Second, no, it isn't boring, but only if you are good at thinking outside the box. The story is extremely simple, but if you think about it, it's truly deep and moving. However, if the player is unable to read beyond what they are looking at, they'll find it a bore.
Yes, you really have to understand what kind of game it is before you play it. If people were told only: "Schindler's List has people shooting other people," and if they then watched it with action-spectacle expectations, they'd end up thinking it was disappointing. Yes, it has shooting, but action is not the point.

SotC is a game that has you riding around scenery-porn and killing sixteen bosses. But it's not ABOUT riding around and killing bosses. And it's more of an experience than a story, since there's no exposition and you're left with only clues as to what happened before the game takes place. Watching the nameless protagonist slowly decay more and more with each fight, and the dead girl looking more and more alive is a simple and efficient build-up to one of the most memorable finales of all time. And imagine all that set to Ko Otani's epic soundtrack.

I think it's a very adult game. It is presented with childlike simplicity, charm and imagination, but carries infinite emotional weight. Kinda like Hayao Miyazaki cartoons.

Also, I'm not sure, but I read it's pronounced [i:'ko], not [ai'ko].

No. Turn based is for thinking, Real time is mostly about which unit you should spam the most, ESPECIALLY Starcraft 2. In Real time you have no choice but to just make the best unit over and over and send them to your enemy to kill them, all the strategy is gone by late game, but in turn based you have to consider which threats your going to face, what your opponent is going to do and what position your troops should be in for best effect. Some RTS's do this like Ground Control of WiC, but they don't get the attention or sales they deserve.

You don't even play RTS games do you? Cause to say anything close to "there is no strategy, you just spam your best unit" reeks of ignorance of the subject matter.

I guess so if Age Of Mythology (and its expansion), DoW, Ground Control, Age Of Empire's 2 and Red Alert 3 don't count for RTS's. Go play Ground Control and it makes most RTS's look like shit, and its free.

Pleasantly surprised by that. Shadow is my favourite game of all time, pretty much sums up everything I love/hate about it in the review.

Hmmm, not surprised he loved the game, but personally, SOTC wasn't my cup o' tea.
Frankly, I got pretty bored pretty quickly.

I might give it another shot considering how many people just dry hump the game all the time.

"Ignore all the good RTS games and play the one bad one, then you will agree that RTS games are bad"

Thats.........better?

I don't see how one bad RTS game that I have never heard of defines the whole genre. You most certainly can't just spam the best unit in any RTS I play.

I really liked this one. It was very funny (holy hell, when the dead chick was driving a car roped to the word plot, I was like, "DAYUM, that was witty!") and you seemed to be more of a reviewer in it, as you didn't go out of your way to trash it. I guess that happens when you really like a game. Like, like it so much you're like "Man... I can't trash this. I love this game. I can't do it. I hurt inside when I do it to games I like, but this one I love. Dag yo." That is so how you probably talk in real life.

*Chuckles*

Take THAT you art haters! =D SotC wins yet again. It must really grind the gears of those who hate innovation. =d

The game is darn good and for the minority who didn't finish it or didn't like it, I seriously say: too bad for you and your clone-game you prefer. Everyone else got a treat to a very unique and memorable experience. One that simply can't be compared. Sure you're perfectly okay to not like the game, just like little kids are allowed to not like snacks.

"But why is it "too bad", PT?"

Find your adventure game where you can use your horse the way you do in SotC WITHOUT Quick Time Events and we have the answer. Worst thing about the game is the kids who spoil it for others.

I was very surprised to see this review and was expecting the worse. Personally, I thought it was a "Damn Good" game as well. However, on the internet, it's easy to find people who consider the game to be acid fecal matter that will burn your skin off it you step too close to it. Thanks Ben for reminding me how excited I am for the possible Team Ico collection that may be coming out.

Nice to hear about what Yahtzee likes now and again, good change of pace.

Also, I found the arbitrary lizard shooting to be hilarious.
