Fun Fact: There is no such thing as 'overrated'. It's a buzzword used by people like you who think their opinion shared with others like themselves should be the opinion of the everyone else that isn't already part of their side of the argument.

Enjoy your opinion.
Thanks, I will. Enjoy your shitty game.
Amen man.

And I don't doubt there are people that hope overhyped games will fail and complain accordingly. We should still demand higher quality reviews from the gaming journalist sector, since it is well needed at this point. Some games are going to pass, no matter how good or bad they actually are, just because they were released from a big studio.

I guess I don't have as much faith in journalistic integrity these days, especially when advertising is introduced. It has happened in virtually every other niche media review journalism world, and it certainly happens here too. The lines between actual journalism and out and out advertising are being blurred, more and more.
You don't think people hope that overhyped games will fail? Really? Have you read this forum or the Halo forum? These have both been very competent games, even if they aren't the second coming. To that effect, I don't get why people are so thrilled about the fact that this game got slammed by someone.
And again, if you want to read a publication by writers with the stones to stand up to big companies, check out EGM. They ran a cover stored titled, and I quote, "Wii Crap," which was a 4-page rant about Nintendo's lack of a concept approval process and the shitty, shitty games on that console. Also, they typically stick it to the studio heads when they are able to get an interview (Reggie Fils-Amie has decided not to conduct an interview...wonder why)

No no, I was agreeing with you on the first part. There are plenty of people who hate a game just because it is well enjoyed by a ton of other people and will ***** accordingly. Game forums usualy ring with complaints when a game that is really anticipated is released.

And sure there are a few publications that stick to their guns, but EGM is only one mag out of like, how many man? I respect those who do, but they seem to be in short supply today.

i love smash brothers, i'm not particularly good at fighting games as i get too excited & end up button mashing so it's nice to have a game i can actually play with my brothers & housemates without just getting massacred all the time, although it's frustrating as hell for them if i win!

...if of course

at least it gives us special people a chance :) although i totally agree on the whole zelda continuity issue, & marv is indeed, balls.

I used to be a fan of Smash Brothers, but I thought myself pretty good at Melee. Especially as Falco.

NON SEQUITUR: What the hell happened to Falco in Brawl?!? He's been nerfed in the worst way now. He goes from being the best character in Melee to one of the worst in Brawl.

Anyway, my melee-philia changed when I faced a dude I had just met who not only kicked my ass, but could move faster by blocking and ducking in quick succession than he could full out sprinting. That's when I threw down my controller in disgust and went off to play Dawn of War (Tau Empire ftw!).

Ah, I gotcha. Yeah, the state of journalism, in general, is pretty said today. This is not just limited to game published. But that is a rant for another forum.

Wave-dashing.
I thought that the cult of wave dashers had an unspeaken rule to not show the skill to the unchosen ones?

I was never interested in playing the game till it got to that point. I lost interest in SSB64 with my friend when he learned this trick with Ness where you jump, and use his down smash to cancel the jump, causing him to down smash at ground level. This means that he juggles you up to 150% if he gets his heels on you, and then head-butts you to infinity and beyond.

Only if you've been under a rock. A quick look through GameFaqs will tell you that it's basically just jumping and then inmediately "evading" (pressing block) against one of your sides, against the floor. It's not hard to do, but it's really tough to do it CONSISTENTLY. Not all characters have good wavedashing. Personally, I avoid it when playing against anyone without experience.

You could press block and to the side when u touch the floor when coming down in order to roll to a side and end the combo. I used this a lot too, considering NESS is the most powerfull character in the original.

Am I the only one here that thinks that Yahtzee gave this game a quick two hour play, just to shut everyone up? As justified as his points were in this review, I feel like Yahtzee could have gone even further. Point in case: the balancing issues in this game, for all of you people who like to use Ike, or spam Sonic's final smash.

This is not to say that Yahtzee SHOULD have gone deeper, however. This is to say that you people (and you know who you are) need to stop spamming poor Yahtzee with your fan-boy ideas of what he should review. The man enjoys reviewing certain types of games, and forcing Yahtzee to review SSB is like forcing David Bowie to sing Death Metal for you.

This goes double for you people that insist that he's 'not a real reviewer'. If you want Yahtzee to be more serious about this reviews, then let him dissect things that he likes.

Pricks.

@NDBurke: He's getting PAID to make this reviews. His boss chooses the game. He HAS to do his job, likes it or not (most of the times he does though).

Wow within the first day, this rewiew got more post than any of the other reviews including Halo 3.

Loved the review, he made a lot of good points, bui I still love the game, I think it's going to be the game of the year, hands down. It's s great game to play with your friends, yeah the single player is very repetetive, but all I ended up doing is just playing an ass ton of vs. games and unlocking them all that way cause every like 50 you get one. The only thing I didn't agree with him about was the "button mashing", I have a friend that SSBB was his first SSB game he ever played and he tried the "button mashing" and lost every time, I believe that this game you really need to know whats going on and how to control what you are doing otherwise you are just kinda fucked. And there is nothing wrong with being "That Guy" either, cause deep down everyone wants to be "That Guy" when they are playing a video game against other people, whether you like to admit it or not.

This is ridiculous. Some people just don't give good games a chance and bad mouth it as if it were Hitler or something, then they seem to think that anyone else who likes the game is a Nazi. If a golden perfect game drifted down from heaven and promised to rid the world of all it's problems there would still be a bunch of people who would be desperate to give it a tonne of crap, just because it's different. I'm not saying Brawl is perfect, I'm saying it's a good game with few flaws that some people don't like because other people DO like it.

Amen to that. And, Yahtzee didn't actually give SSBB THAT bad of a review. Even when he gives a comparatively good review he always points out the flaws above all else.

Everything said in the review was, I hate to admit it, true, at least to some degree, regardless of whether or not there was a reason behind it.

And there CAN be something wrong with being that guy, depending on attitude, though yes, we all want to win. I guess that's true.

Yeah there is nothing wrong with being "That Guy" as long as your not one of those rub it in the face type of people, cause they are just annoying.

No you're not. That guy generally doesn't think he is. It's of a paradoxical nature. Or, at least the very annoying ones don't.

I disagree with his overall opinion but it was quite funny anyways.

But then again he hates fighting games - so really this was a pointless exercise.
