anyway lets all chill out and enjoy which ever game we/i/you like on which ever format you like it on and shoot beat slash jump race smash our/your/my way through it
If it was that simple, forums would probably not exist ^^ Everyone wants their piece of flame-fame!

I only read the first two pages, but no one is defending the game? Underneath the fan boy wet dream is a relatively (compared to melee) deep and very well balanced fighter. I am surprised that any one could beat another person by just randomly pressing buttons. to me it is the least button mashing friendly fighter around.

I think this just shows that any sort of multiplayer game is not Yahtzee's cup o tea.

With items off, the whole button mashing argument is crumpled up into a rather small ball and thrown out the window, assuming you're not fighting on Rumble Falls.

I really didn't like this review. Not because I love Smash Bros., either, because I do agree with several of the points in here, and the whole button mashing point was the only one I was really in disagreement with. But I found that this Zero Punctuation steered away from the usual clever, negatively-slanted critique and instead came off as mere complaining about the game. If you're not going to complain in a humorous fashion, don't complain. When Yahtzee was complaining about JRPGs in Super Paper Mario, that was in a humorous fashion. In this one I felt he was simply whining about reviewing the game, not finding much he said particularly funny. Well, there's always next time, I guess...

Also, being "that guy" is completely and utterly true. It not only hits the nail on the head, it hits the nail so hard the hammer shatters into seventy-two pieces.

The N64 version of this game is more playable in my opinion. The Wii version really is terrible. Though to be honest, I didn't have high hopes for it to begin with and he game was a gift...
What is so "terrible?" There are a couple things that I don't like, such as the removal of the air dodge and Dr. Mario or that they changed the sound that Ness's bat makes and Mario's Down+B, but I'm having a blast. The new characters Zero Suit Samus and Snake are very cool and have a good move set.
he said 'i' and 'in my opinion', you dont have to defend your own opinions when they were not even mentioned.

and that, friends, is why this thread is 850 posts long.
Wow, thanks for being really disagreeable for no good reason. I did not throw down the gauntlet and challenge him to a duel to the death. I asked him a question since he didn't elaborate in his post and I was curious as to why he said that it was terrible. It's called a "conversation."

To Nidenel, it began to be defended somewhere in the teens, and here and there before then. It's okay.

To PsycoJosh, it's a valid argument I'm afraid. Yahtzee gave it a solid "meh," which, by his standards, isn't that bad. It's up there with Bioshock, which he admitted later to not be so bad when compared to Halo 3, which is beloved by many. Smashbashing was something you could only get away with in the aforementioned early pages; now you need to back them up with valid reasons. And fanboy remarks no longer count, because it's somewhat circular logic to say a game is bad because people like a bad game. Or whatever the fanboy argument is.
And if you read this whole thing, you have more patience than I do. :)

you know i skimmed over this thread and i realized the length of it actually has self diffused the flame war of the early pages, maybe what we need is LESS locked pages, why not let two people just slug it out until they don't have the strength to swing anymore.

OR i have the best idea, lets resolve this once and for all, all the people who hate smash bros on one side of the room, people who like it on the other, and we settle this... with a smash bros tournament hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, that or dodgeball.

I like the way people comment about how they are gonna show this to their friends to piss them off. I mean, even tho you believe Yathzee is your god, i doubt your friends will care much about a random australian game being angry at nintendo for being so succesful using the same formula. It's funny, but at the point he clearly said ''im only gonna review the part i want to review'' (like in the halo 3 review), you know this is not gonna be a serious review. I agree with him when he says that this review is useless tho, because reviewing a multiplayer game without the multiplayer aspect of it makes it lose all it's credibility. But the fact that this is entertainment and not really reviews ALSO make it lose all of it's credibility (as a review, and not entertainment... because it is entertaining or i wouldnt be here).

PS: This is entertainement. Thats why you watch it and laugh so hard.

I think for SSB4, they should turn it into SSB: fanboy edition. They could try and get all the fanboy favourites from other consoles and PC. That way you could shoot up Mario as Master Chief, or smash in Cloud Strife's head with Gordon Freeman. Maybe Yahtzee could be an unlockable character.

On a side note, GTA4 is finally here. Don't buy into the hype and you might actually enjoy it.

Which most regulars (sorry, most regulars who can think for themselves)[/generalisation] feel. Or, at least, how I feel.

With all the perfect scores it has nabbed, my expectations have shot through the roof.

GTA's to me have never been that interesting once you've played one you pretty much played them all and they get so boring so quickly for me the missions all seem the same theres only so much time that i can stand causing havoc it just dont do anything for me. DONT HURT ME PLEASE ITS MY OPINION YOU CANT DO A DAMN THING but this one looks a little more interesting but still wont get it straight away unless i can get a special edition

Aside from the outraged screams and generic plaudits ("GO YAHTZEE! TELL IT LIKE IT IZ! LOLZ!") I'm stunned at how mature the reactions have been the later you get into this thread... Fans of SSB pointing out that no, actually. It's not a button basher. And criticism of Nintendo isn't actually relevant to a game developed by Sora...

I would just like to throw a couple of things into the mix.

1) No, Yahtzee is not a "proper" reviewer. The clue should be the lack of a score at the end of a video. This is okay, they're edatorials, not reviews. They're opinion pieces. This is fine, Yahtzee would not be the legend he is if he had to review games conventionally - he'd have to sacrifice humour for serious boring review stuff.

2) I really wish Yahtzee would drop this idotic pretence of hating people who watch his reviews or email him or whatever. It's pretentious and unnesecerry.

3) I find it a bit rich when Yahtzee complains about fanboys. Has he not read these threads? He has more of them than Nintendo has.

I don't think he hates the people who watch him, just the ones who watch him and e-mail him asking when he'll review/editorialize Ocarina of Time and Super Mario Kart and other various games who have spawned massive cult followings and such.
