I'll let them speak for themselves since they'll obviously have more info (assuming they decide to devulge it) but unfortunately...yeah, the market IS kind of that fucked where you might not get any of those three big things but are forced into it :(
See, that's what I don't understand: "forced." I have as much info on this particular instance as you obviously, but were I in a position to purchase a home at ALL, I don't think I'd feel forced to settle for something that checks NONE of my boxes, not while renting is an option (and that's my assuming it might have been.) Home buying isn't something you do on a whim, like going out for dinner, finding your favorite restaurant is closed, and settling for something else; it's something you plan for, save for, and is ultimately a major commitment. I get it being more expensive than planned, but it can at least be somewhere I like or a house I like, or being in my price range, but maybe not my ideal home or where I'd prefer, or being perfectly located, but pricey and maybe not my ideal home, but when NONE of those criteria are met... why buy?

I have a perfectly serviceable car right now, but am actually thinking about buying a new one (my girlfriend's son is of driving age now, and I was knocking around the idea of giving him mine and getting something newer,) but if I show up to the dealership, and all they have are Lamborghinis that I have to drive 1,000 miles away to get, I'm not getting a new car.

TL;DR? If Piscian was able to buy a home, it makes sense that at least SOME of their criteria should be met. Otherwise, rent an apartment, eat it on the equity, and wait until something at least remotely acceptable comes around.

"That's life?" What circumstances in life made you buy a house that wasn't what you wanted, wasn't where you wanted AND was too expensive? Those seem like the three major considerations when making a substantial life decision like buying a home. If you were in a position to buy anything, I'd imagine you'd also be in a position to be a bit more selective, but only you know your situation, so without more detail, my opinion on the matter (which doesn't matter, obviously) ends there.
It's complicated, but for personal reasons I was in a rush to get a place. I settled on a place that's in an area that's going to get hot in about 6-12 months because Intel is moving there. the market is so difficult the only reason I got my house is that I bid 50k over asking, skipped inspection and offered full gap coverage. I'm told it was still a close race. Every house I actually wanted in the area I wanted I got outbid on and I'm in between places so I was desperate to find somewhere to live. The house is nice it just isn't my dream home. I'll probably stay there for the next year or two until I get my investment back and then move out of state. I don't hate the city I'm in, but the more I thought about it the more I realized I missed my home town. I miss living in the city near bars and restaurants, this is outside the city in one of those vivarium like subdivisions. Its not deep in a spiders nest, but I hate living in suburbia.

Because Renting isn't as cheap as it used to be. In the area I'm in Rent would be more expensive than my mortgage and if I stay in this house for a year I'll make 50-100K on it. In the current market renting is a much higher loss in value than it used to be. for a 2-3 bedroom apartment rent would be around 2000-2400. My mortage is $1950 for a newer 3 bedroom house. Its very lopsided these days against renters.

All very rational thoughts, and I hope I wasn't condescending with my thoughts; it just sounded very odd to me that someone might settle as you had to. I hope it's not too taxing while you "do your time" in a place you don't want to be in.

On the plus side, that can also be a good experience to learn about what you do and do not like about a house. Like I bought my house and was relatively happy with it but there are a number of things that I know I want when I get my next house (and probably just as important, what I DON'T want). It also lets you learn a bit on how to fix random ish that needs fixing while being in a house that you might not be all that worried about when it comes to fixes (not that I'd do a bad job or expect you would on purpose but if you're like me, this is the first time I'm making many of these kinds of repairs as I've never owned a house and just by experience, the first time doing it is probably going to be a less than ideal repair job).

Either way, good luck on your house!

" the only reason I got my house is that I bid 50k over asking, skipped inspection and offered full gap coverage." That is what I'm hearing. So many young people in my immediate social orbit are shopping in this environment.

You also speak to why you may need to buy as fast as possible. You can find your rent exceeding a mortgage fast.

My boy and his girlfriend started at $1,400 a month for a 2 bedroom townhouse. I think he'll be lucky if it stays under $2K.
My daughter is renting a 10x10 storage. $110 becomes $180 overnight.
I just hope no one bails out Blackrock when this collapses.

I finally managed to snag a PS5(Disc version) for MSRP. I AM NOW BETTER THEN ALL OF YOU! MUHAHHAHA! /jk

In all seriousness, I managed to get lucky....catch a direct sale from sony just as it kicked off and waited in an online queue for an hour sure they'd run out just as I got to the end. I waited till it arrived today and opened it before even daring to say I'd gotten one.

Oh, fun fact; It was deliverly confirmation from UPS but the guy just showed up at the door, put it on the porch and didn't bother to wait for the signeture before leaving. I know this because my wife was heading to the door to sign for it when it arrived and he was already gone by the time she opened the door(We also have a doorcam showing him just ringing the doorbell, putting the package down and leaving).

Seriously, UPS?

Still way harder to fucking get one then it should be.

NAS had been making a noise every forty or so seconds for a while. Seemed to become more frequent after we had another outage two weeks ago. Transfer speeds also became far worse around that time, but possibly earlier than that. Took the NAS into my room where I could monitor it more closely. Noticed that whenever that noise was emitted, the transfer speeds fell to zero. Figured it was probably one of the hard drives rebooting repeatedly due to insufficient power. Plugged the NAS into my PC's Corsair CX650M power supply to see, without removing either of the PSUs, so it looked like one car feeding another with its battery using those cables. NAS ran much quieter than with the EVGA 400 watt PSU, but more importantly, I no longer heard that noise. Few hours later I went to Best Buy, bought another CX650M and put it in the NAS. 650 watts is a lot for that RAID setup, but the other reputable option on the shelves was EVGA again. No thanks. Speeds have been steady for two days now. I have been watching movies over the network for the first time in weeks. Today I watched a 78 mbps 4K movie over the network. No lag or freezes with either movie. Hopefully this also fixes the speeds slowing down after a few weeks.

I bought a coin jar that tallies the total as you insert the coins. I have an old tennis ball tube in my car that's nearly over flowing with loose change, and it drives my girlfriend crazy. I'm way too excited for this. Should be here today.

No. The switch in my room is 1 Gbps. Have no idea about the other switch higher up in the chain and the router. Max those network-connected hard drives give me is 113 MBps.

Apparently, I've been sitting on $70 worth of change in my car in plain sight.
